Tyler Summitt and Mickie Demoss should be here next season

before HW took over. He's just continued our tradition of bad offensive basketball and made it worse. People conveniently forget that PS was not a good offensive coach at all--it is why they program's slide started long before HW took over. Unfortunately, she has accelerated our decline--in large part because she's absolutely stuck playing 1980 PS-style basketball.

I gotta disagree here. Even in Pat's final year we averaged 74 points per game. That is way ahead of this team.

Wow, just crazy stuff in this thread. Did CHW and that ivy leaguer really say that you "can't coach effort"????? That is just mindless. That is the first thing a coach HAS to do. I am sure not one of the top coaches in WCBB would agree with that statement in the least, and that could be the chief piece of evidence for any LV fans who think the head coach needs to be replaced.

you guys are here talking about Tyler visiting here next year. While he has just stepped down as La Tech head coach due to inappropriate relationship between him and someone I don't know.. My prayers goes to that young guy, he about to close his own door.

it probably wasn't a stepped down,I'm sure he was fired as soon as they found out

he may get a job somewhere coaching on a mens team, but it will be hard to say

Oh, I hated to hear this news. My prayers are with him and his family, especially Pat and his wife, and all close to him. He is still young enough to sort this out, but it will probably take time. Pat surely didn't need this blow.

You really can't coach effort in way. That's like saying you can coach passion into a player.
Just no. The first thing a coach should do is insist that players do give 100% effort, and teach that. Hillsman at Syracuse definitely coaches effort, and that press runs on it. I saw a few games this year where a number of the LVs were playing very lethargically and just seemed to forget about the effort at the end of the contest. You are seriously telling me that a coach should not be getting in the players' faces in practice and during games and making sure that they are maintaining a total effort level????

That is truly pathetic, and if you and CHW agree that effort needn't be coached, it is highly likely that that 14 loss mark will be exceeded next year.

A lot of coaches say things like this. There are some innate qualities of good players and great players that you really cannot coach. And the best coaches do not recruit even very talented players where they see issues in those innate qualities.
You can demand effort and commitment and teamwork, but if the player doesn't have it in them, you have two choices - settle for what they give you or bench them. The better choice is not to recruit them in the first place.

I think that Tyler's coaching career may be on hold or maybe even over.

His career as an NCAA women's or even HS girls' basketball coach is over. No school will let this slide. At the college level, it's a PR nightmare. At the high school level, he's a walking lawsuit waiting to happen.

The storybook ending was for him to eventually come back and follow the footsteps of his mother, but he's closed the chapter of that book and tossed the book in the furnace. How sad...

Yes, I agree. In time, he could eventually end up as an assistant coach on a men's team, but I still wonder about that as well. With the sexual harassment lawsuit looming over UTK, we sure didn't need this to add to it. I know that this wasn't at UTK, but his mom coached the LVs and he was a student athlete on the men's basketball team. The yellow journalism press may have a bit of a field day with this one.

From the news, it looks like Tyler is going to be a father, but not by his wife.

Looks like he may have gotten one of his player pregnant.

Looks like it might have been a player that he brought with him from Marquette.

This is really terrible.

Why would we hire someone that young, inexperienced, ineffectual, and with such poor judgement?

Tyler Summitt's coaching career is OVER. This is not like a recruiting violation or somesuch; short of a criminal act, this is the worst thing the coach of a women's team could do. The next job he gets will be one that someone fond of his mother will offer him--and it won't be in basketball.
