DEI Is Sinking the U.S. Navy
In the past several weeks, the U.S. Coast Guard and Navy have announced that a shortage of manpower will force them to sideline ships. Given the growing threats globally, from China to the Mideast, the timing couldn’t be worse. DEI might be the reason.nationalsecurityjournal.org
I would guess the biggest henderence to recruitment is that every time we go to war its a multiple decade thingThese opinion pieces are a joke.
I spent a little over three years recruiting. Not once - not one single time did somebody decline to enlist because of DEI. They want to go to college, they want to go into the trades, they don't want to leave their girlfriends, they want to keep smoking weed, etc...
I imagine they are referring to young men and women not even considering serving due to DEI.These opinion pieces are a joke.

They're not even interested enough to speak to a recruiter. These opinion pieces are a joke.

I have no doubt about that.I talked to thousands of people. 99% of kids I talked to didn't enlist but we still had conversations. "DEI" and "woke" are conservative talking points, and they may certainly impact retention to a degree. I won't argue with that. I'm just telling you that as a person with direct recruiting experience, not once has this topic come up.

To address this shortfall, the US is seeking investment from allies, particularly South Korea and Japan. Their companies are the world’s biggest shipbuilders outside China and can produce both commercial and naval vessels more quickly and cost-effectively than American firms.

looks like it was an SSN that sank, not an SSBN, which carries ballistic nuclear missiles.Chinese officials cover up sinking of country’s newest nuclear-powered submarine tied to pier
A senior U.S. Defense official said it was no surprise China covered up that its first nuclear-powered Zhou-class submarine sank while attached to a pier between May and June.www.foxnews.com
"The Chinese government reportedly covered up the sinking of its newest nuclear-powered submarine as it sat tied to a pier, and U.S. officials say it is no surprise.
"It’s not surprising that the PLA Navy would try to conceal the fact that their new first-in-class nuclear-powered attack submarine sank pierside," a senior U.S. Defense official said. "In addition to the obvious questions about training standards and equipment quality, the incident raises deeper questions about the PLA’s internal accountability and oversight of China’s defense industry, which has long been plagued by corruption."
China’s first Zhou-class submarine likely sank between May and June, The Associated Press reported based on information from an official who spoke on condition of anonymity. Satellite images showed cranes in the area that would have been necessary to salvage the vessel from the bottom of the river.
China maintains a fleet of six nuclear-capable submarines, carrying missiles that could hit the continental U.S. from the South China Sea."
