UFC 148 - July 7th @ 10PM ET

Not a Sonnen fan. I must admit, I kinda wanted to see Silva lose, but mostly just wanted to see a legit fight.

You can clearly see the knee hit him in the left pectoral. Totally legal knee, and I hate Silva.

It's not just about the knee. If any part of his leg strikes his head it's illegal.

I think it was a nasty chest shot with a knee that hurt like hell. Silva's knee are deadly weapons. No telling the power behind that blow. Sonnen was just a dumbass for that amateurish backfist. I just wanted to see a good fight. It was until he tripped himself.

I wouldn't mind Silva losing the title at all. Just not to Sonnen. lol

I want to see GSP somehow beat him. If it's even possible...

I don't know. I thought it seemed legit but everybody sees things differently. I was already questioning Griffin interviewing Ortiz and Silva talking to Sonnen afterwards. I hope UFC isn't getting fake

It didn't. Sonnen may have sniffed his short but that's it. It hits him in the chest and his whole body shifts back. Head didn't budge.

I agree.

Didn't think it was illegal but your gif is much better and you can clearly see the knee hitting him in the chest. Not even close to the head.

All the talk about GSP beating Silva cracks me up. Anderson would destroy him. Personally, I would love too see that.

Been thinking about who Silva could still fight. There is really no one that I think could beat Silva unless they got lucky, but there are still a few middleweight title contenders that he probably will face at some point. Bisping and Lombard are the two most intriguing that come to mind.

And for fun, there are some welterweights that are getting old, that may be tired of cutting weight to fight, and at some point might move up:

Josh Koscheck- probably only a couple of years left before he retires. Probably will retire at welterweight (if he's not cut by then).
GSP- says that some day he will move up for more challenges, and he doesn't want to contend with his teammate Rory MacDonald.
Johny Hendricks
Thiago Alves
Dan Hardy

As for lightweights: Rashad and Dan Henderson II.
I don't see Silva ever leaving the middleweight division to move up again.

Ok and here is another scenario that will never happen but I think would be awesome - Roy Nelson. A lot of people think that if he was to ever really commit to cutting weight, and getting in shape, he could actually cut to 185. Never will happen but it would be awesome.

And no, the UFC isn't getting fake. Griffin is just an emtionaly guy that thought he was doing Tito a service by directing the attention to him, since it was his last fight.

I don't think GSP has a chance against Silva.

I think it depends on how well recovered GSP knee gets. I'm not saying you do, but people always seem to not understand how absolutely great GSP is at inflicting damage while on the ground. Unlike Sonnen, that wasn't able to hurt Silva once he was taken down, GSP could do it. Josh Koscheck was not allowed by doctors to get onto a plane to fly back home for 3 WEEKS after fighting GSP because of the damage he received.

Koscheck was content with eating jabs for 5 rounds there was maybe 1 takedown that whole fight. Silva would destroy GSP IMO.

Silva is considered the best pound for pound fighter ever. I know GSP is also considered one of the best in that department, but Silva is bigger, so there's just no way, IMO. I don't think GSP could even get him on the ground.

I don't agree with that at all.

Silva would most likely beat him but I really think you guys are underestimating GSP.

Silva 32-4
GSP 22-2

Silva 16-0 in his last 16 fights
GSP 15-1 in his last 16 fights

Silva 16 wins in a row
GSP 9 wins in a row

I'm assuming you don't like GSP because I think you'd have to be pretty bias to believe Silva would just walk right over GSP.

Let's just put it this way... I've seen people talking about Silva fighting Bones/JDS and GPS has a much better chance of beating Silva imo than Silva has of beat Jones or JDS. I feel pretty confident that Jones and JDS would handle Silva. Silva vs. GPS on the other hand... you could probably flip a coin.

Silva only has a 1 inch reach advantage on GSP while Jones has a 7 inch reach advantage on Silva and JDS has 55lbs on Silva. You saw Chael take Silva down time after time and Jones is better at take downs than Chael, not to mention a lot stronger and better fighter than Chael. And if Silva were to fight JDS, what's he going to move up to, 225?? Even then, he's at a size disadvantage and who knows how he would carry that weight in a fight. That's 40lbs heavier than his current fighting weight.

I really believe GSP could beat Silva before Silva could beat Jones or JDS. Jmo but I do think you're underestimating GSP.

knees to the head should be legal anywhere.

Agreed, but if it's against the rules, then you don't defend against it. Sonnen's hands were protecting the sides and top of his head....then he took a thigh to the face.

So is Sonnen gonna keep his word, and leave the UFC for good?

Again, the hit was legal and to the chest.......keep pretending that Sonnen (who I was pulling for) got cheated and a raw deal, it was clean.

I dont think Dana will let Sonnen leave, half the reason for this PPV being so popular was due to Sonnen's mouth. Dana will do what he can do to try and keep Sonnen in the UFC

So if most of you believe GSP stands no chance against Silva, Silva has to move up or someone has to move down because GSP is the best in his division and if you don't think GSP can beat Silva, no other welterweight is going to imo. GSP already looks about the same size as Silva at 15lbs less and he's really long.

So yeah... if you guys are ruling out GSP, you may as well rule out the entire welterweight division. I would also rule out almost all of the heavyweights so that leaves the light heavyweights because I don't think Silva can put on 40lbs of muscle to match most of the heavyweights. Even if he put on 40lbs of muscle to get to 225, he'd still be way smaller than the top heavyweights. JDS(240), Cain(240), Fabricio(245), Carwin(255), Overeem(260), Mir(260), Lesnar(265). And a lot of those guys are great at take downs/former college wrestlers. If Chael can take Silva down, so can they and they have waaaaaaaaaaaay more power to finish.

The only bigs I might be interested to see him fight are Fabricio, Big Nog and Roy Nelson. And that's only because he could get close to their weights without it being completely lopsided. Even though Cain and JDS are the smallest of the best heavyweights, I think they're too good for their size for Silva to put on 40lbs and immediately step into the ring with them. Cain a former wrestler would take Silva down and JDS is just good.

I would rule out Jon Jones because again, he can take down Silva just like Sonnen did only he'd finish Silva after he gets him down. So it should be down to basically anyone in the light heavyweight division except Bones imo. Rashad Evans, Dan Henderson(II), Lyota Machida, Shogun Rua, Phil Davis, Alexander Gustafsson.... one of those guys or GSP is the fight I'd go with.
