UPDATED Tim Banks a potential candidate for Miami and Clemson DC

Will you please learn about the offense before making statements like that.

The offense has struggled the last 2 years because our QB andcWR's were not capable of processing information fast enough. It had to be dumbed down for them. Our offense is based on pace, we can't run pace without very cerebral WR's and QB
Not sure that’s been proven at all, I already saw that video you posted and dude was full of it! Playing with pace does not require cerebral QB and WR’s, that’s why there are a TON of high school teams that play that way and do really well! Been around those high school teams and it wasn’t very bright QB’s or WR l’s that made them go. It was wearing the defense out and you knowing where you are going and the defense being out of wack. Lots of motions and getting WR’s into open space with a QB that is accurate. I mean some of the best WR in the NFL are cerebral and great route runners, so why is it that our offense in 2022 was led by 2 guys that have done jack crap in the NFL, but yet one of them won award for best WR in college football? Fact is, our offense was predicated on pretty much playing backyard offense, very few reads and getting the ball to the open man. Not sure why we went away from it, but we have. Milton can’t throw an accurate pass was his issue, but heck if he wasn’t ahead of Hooker to start in 2021. Maybe we got away from it because Milton and maybe to extent Nico aren’t accurate enough to make those throws. But again go back and look at the OSU game and the possession we went uptempo. Think it was the one before half went 5 plays in a minute, Bishop went down and came back out, no uptempo and we had a false start along with some incomplete passes and kicked a FG. It was great finally showing progress and instead went right back to where we started.

Why would you think the Vols job is MUCH better than a Miami job? There is no comparison between Knoxville and Miami. Coaching for Cristobal is almost a sure fire path to a Head Coaching position. Miami would probably pay more too. If they make an offer, Banks would be crazy not to take it.

When you see guys who have been here for nearly a decade and posted only 67 times, but with multiple of those being within the last week, you realize the trolls are out in full force r

That is one big ass paragraph to say little to nothing. Yes we need smart WR's that have the ability to manipulate the defense. You comparing our offense to high schools is laughable.

We don't run specific routes, we run the route the defense gives us, means the QB and WR must be on the same page. If receivers have a set route, then how do you explain the ball going one place and the receiver going somewhere else?

In 2022, we did have 2 NFL quality receivers, the are playing in the league. Just because they aren't all pro, doesn't mean they weren't great in college. To suggest such is again laughable.

Milton and Nico simply could not process the information needed to go fast. When we slow down & dumb down the offense we struggle. Compare our offense this year to our 2022 red zone offense. Both were slow & both struggled to move the ball.

You watched some idiot put together a supposed video that showed how this offense is supposed to work with pace! Also this offense did come from a version of Hal Mumme’s offense and it’s played in high schools all across the country. If you are too stupid to know that, not sure you have any football knowledge so stick to GOLF! But for those of us that coached at high school level have seen this type of offense growing for years. Usually it’s used because you have some skill guys that out talent those on defense and so it’s easy to create mismatches. Also uptempo can help the OL as they don’t have to hold their blocks as long and they tend to give up less sacks because of it.

As far as those WR, boy they must have been just brilliant and lost it all, because they are in the NFL and they both can barely get on the field! Hyatt has like 400 yards in his career and no TD’s, Tillman has like 500 but I guess he at least has 3 TD’s. Also I absolutely love the guys, they are very nice down to earth men! However seems to me, either our WR’s aren’t as cerebral as you think or our offense in 2022 was more backyard type offense and not a Bama type offense. Also by the way, even the NFL has QB’s throwing fly patterns while the WR ran a hook, it happens when signals get mixed up, so if that was a gotcha, you failed miserably!

Also by the way, sit with someone that actually knows offense sometime. These past 2 years we ran a lot more set routes than we ever did before, you have to do that to try and get people open when you try and throw to more than your first read. When running an offense with pace, usually you throw to your first read, it’s why Hooker was so good with it while he had lost his job at Va Tech! I love Hooker, but he sure as hell wasn’t a cerebral QB, our pace got him open looks and he made the throws to those open guys. That’s why I was never sold he would make it in the NFL as he never really had to go through progressions. It’s simple to watch every game in 2022 and much of 2021 to see that.

I mean it’s pretty simple concept, going fast means you don’t have to read as much, usually that first read is open and throw is made, we are playing an offense now that takes way more cerebral schemes for a QB and maybe that is because we told Nico we would when he committed, because QB’s under systems Josh runs usually aren’t very high draft picks. I can’t for sure know that, however, again all you have to do is watch when we played uptempo and see that even Nico played better under it, just not sure why we aren’t doing it. But to say it’s because a QB and WR have to be very cerebral to play uptempo is one of the biggest jokes I’ve ever heard in my life and the guy who made your video is making excuses for Josh changing his offense to something similar to 3 yards and a cloud of dust!

Honestly, we need to give him a raise. Our coaching staff is pretty low cost right now. I just can't keep understanding how we don't have more money right now with the Haslems, Sprye, etc. I am thinking we need to audit or NIL collective to make sure they are actually spending the money and not pocketing chunks of it.
Spyre is audited by the AD. Spyre does deals for the athletes; they have no involvement on coach’s contracts as far as I know. Heupel and the AD would make that decision on Banks.

I like Tim but he’s likely not going to be here much longer anyways. They already have a succession plan for when he leaves for presumably a HC job. If he wants to leave for another coordinator position that would be questionable as to why but idk that you bend over backwards to keep him. Think the plan was for Inge to be ready to take over this year or next anyways if and when Banks moved on.

Good lord. You are part of the problem. The athletic department works directly with the vol club and spyre. They know everything about the operation.

The offense comes from Art Briles, not Hal Mummy. We do not run an air raid offense, we run a veer and shoot. Hal Mummy is said to be the creator of the air raid. So you are up the wrong coaching tree.
How do I know about our offense? Because I didn't get the information from someone internet idiot. I got it from Art Briles. Plenty of information out there about Briles & CJH. Maybe you should just stick to high school football.

You are actually saying that in 2022 we ran more complex routes that we did in 2024. Why do you think that is? Maybe because our 2024 receivers could not make the correct read!! Going fast doesn't mean we have set routes, it still requires our QB and WR's to manipulate the defense and be on the same page.

Our WR's(when the offense runs correctly) have many options based on their cover man, the NB, the safeties, and lb's in coverage. If you think reading all those and running the correct route isn't cerebral. Then I don't have enough crayons to spell it out for you.

Hyatt and Tillman are both buried on the depth chart behind some pretty good WR. Neither one of them play for a good team with tons of offense. Guess Hendon is a tertible QB since he cant get on the field. Trying to defend saying they aren't good because they don't catch 100 balls for 1500 yards and make the pro-bowl says a lot.

if you are such an offense guru, then how do you explain our WR's going from having options to running such basic concepts?

p.s. I will stick to golf, I make a very good living playing the game.

If he leaves they’ll probably just make Inge the new DC and use the opening to promote Chop to a position coach

He worked with what he had. Banks is solid. Would hate to lose him. Is Dabo better to work for than Heupel? 🤔

Not a chance.
He did when he started and should get a ton of credit for taking a thin roster riddled with talent/development holes and making it a great depth chart.

Unfortunately, he cannot match wits with the kinds of OCs that UT has to face when trying to break into the top tier. Was it a mystery to you what OSU was going to do any time they needed 5 or 7 yards on 3rd down? They killed UT with crossing routes and short throws to the flat. It was no surprise. Banks just wasn't prepared for it and did not have the skill to adjust to it.

There is always a chance that you lose someone who is a B to B+ type of coach and hire someone who flops. But honestly I personally won't be that upset if UT loses him.

I'm also not sure of his value in recruiting. Someone else may have more insight but I don't think he's considered elite.
