Same challenge. Your slowest player doesn’t have much of a shot at catching the qb. Banks and Heupel each prefer taking risks to force more action, but they held off this year and played Brooks deep to shag fly balls. In fairness, he has a nose for it and saved a couple of games back there. Then blitz the safety.

Sorry the numbers say he is elite.Yes we've seen big improvements under Banks and the defense is no longer a glaring weakness.
But the UGA and Ohio State games prove this wasn't an elite defense and that Banks isn't an elite DC as of yet.
Offenses with a pulse (UGA and Ohio State) were able to move the ball on us fairly effectively with motion/sweeps and creative play designs. I think Banks is content to try to generate pressure with his front four, and rarely uses exotic blitz packages or looks that are required in certain matchups or situations. He needs to improve and adjust in this area in order for him to be considered elite and one of the very best in CFB.
I think he is a good coordinator, but not near the level of an elite one (Kirby Smart, Brent Veneables, Dave Arranda, Phil Parker, Wink Martindale, Bud Foster, etc. etc. etc.) at this juncture.
To reiterate, I think losing him at this point would hurt the program, and I hope we can retain him.
I hope he stays as long as Heulep wants him. He is a very good DC who has done wonders considering the holes we have had in our defensive talent the last 4 years,I think Banks is a good, not great DC.
That said, him leaving at this point in the year may cause issues with defensive players defecting to the portal and I'm not sure who Heupel would go after if he departs.
It probably would be best for UT if he stays at least one more season before moving on, but this is a business, and things rarely happen in an ideal way.
Probably one of the most intelligent posts on this board. I wish more people understood football. The offense comes from Art Briles, not Hal Mummy. We do not run an air raid offense, we run a veer and shoot. Hal Mummy is said to be the creator of the air raid. So you are up the wrong coaching tree.
How do I know about our offense? Because I didn't get the information from someone internet idiot. I got it from Art Briles. Plenty of information out there about Briles & CJH. Maybe you should just stick to high school football.
You are actually saying that in 2022 we ran more complex routes that we did in 2024. Why do you think that is? Maybe because our 2024 receivers could not make the correct read!! Going fast doesn't mean we have set routes, it still requires our QB and WR's to manipulate the defense and be on the same page.
Our WR's(when the offense runs correctly) have many options based on their cover man, the NB, the safeties, and lb's in coverage. If you think reading all those and running the correct route isn't cerebral. Then I don't have enough crayons to spell it out for you.
Hyatt and Tillman are both buried on the depth chart behind some pretty good WR. Neither one of them play for a good team with tons of offense. Guess Hendon is a tertible QB since he cant get on the field. Trying to defend saying they aren't good because they don't catch 100 balls for 1500 yards and make the pro-bowl says a lot.
if you are such an offense guru, then how do you explain our WR's going from having options to running such basic concepts?
p.s. I will stick to golf, I make a very good living playing the game.
Chop is attached with Garner. Not Banks. We can keep Chop if a spot opens but Chop is already allowed to recruit on the road now but he wants to be an asst coach. Hopefully we have a spot open.Banks leaves and we’d need a safeties coach…for all those immediately saying promote Chop. Want that to happen also, especially thinking Banks would want to bring him to his next stop.
We were playing mainly two sophomores, we will have really good linebacker play for the next few years. AC, Telander will be JR's and Spillman should push Telander out and add more athleticism to match Arion. Add in the incoming class and bringing them along we possibly will have the best crop of backers for the next 3 years since early 2000's. They have to go out and do it but the talent is there obviouslyOr linebacker’s! Please get us some Dogs!
