It’s important to remember Banks’ job is to put the players in the best position to win. Obvious? Absolutely.
Less obvious is the hours that go into film study, personnel matchups, tendencies and deciding how to create favorable situations for your players. Who to protect and who he can take risks with. Position coaches provide their input and together they formulate the game plan.
With UGA and OSU those plans didn’t work for different reasons. OSU, in my opinion, because they unleashed the hounds and the last two games are the best they’ve executed all year. Chip Kelley called two great games and took advantage of his mismatches. UGA we planned pressure with our front four and nothing worked. Exposed our secondary. Still not sure what the hell happened with the D-Line that game.
All this to say the true greats anticipate what they other team could do, what they are likely to do, and are not caught off guard by much. In this regard we are not there yet but I’m not sure it’s Banks.
We are still outmatched, although I didn’t think we would be, at the skill positions. The two best rosters we played proved that.
There are likely things Banks wanted to do but felt he couldn’t or were just too risky. As we level the roster up we will know if he’s the real deal or just good. TBD.
