Urban challenging Slive?

i agree completely. if Tebow runs that option I am hitting him for sure every play they are handing off...and calling it a great fake on Tebow's part, "I thought Tim had the ball."

Poor urbie. Those officals are out to get wonder boy. Just not fair. (heavy sarcasim)

If you watch the play there was absolutely no confusion by the defender thinking Tebow had the ball. It was clearly a cheap shot and should have been called. Tebow should be paying better attention though.

With that said, Petrino was right about his complaints and he still got reprimanded so Meyer should get in trouble too.

I agree. I saw the video and it was a cheap shot, but those happen in college football and sometimes do not get called. I hope Meyer gets in trouble over this. It was just a few days ago he was sent the letter telling him not to talk about the refs! I wonder what Slive will do...probably nothing.

I agree 100%. Good post.:good!:

The following is a cut and paste from Dave Hooker's article on GVX:

Meyer made the comments about a play in which quarterback Tim Tebow was hit by a Georgia player after handing the ball off. Urban, you run the option...your QB will get hit...if not, you might think he keeps the ball the next time(?)......THAT IS FOOTBALL!

"That should have been a penalty, in my opinion," Meyer said. "Obviously, it should have been. You've got to protect quarterbacks. That's the whole purpose. It's right in front of the referee. I'm not sure how they're going to handle that, but ... that was one of the plays we did send in (to the SEC to be reviewed)."
Urban, Maybe...just Maybe, Spikes poked the official in the eye on the previoius series....where he could not have seen it happen... had it actually been a penality. :vava: :dunno:
So, it appears he questioned the officiating. When will his suspension take place?

urban, he is a tip for u... tebow is all u have & his a senior this year.. do the math. U need to start stocking up. Cause, u are never gonna get a guy like tebo again

I really wonder whats going to happen to Meyer over all of this. I just dont see Slive giving him a fine or a suspension...and imo thats total BS.

On another note, what if some random player had gouged Tebows eyes out at the bottom of a pile, after a play??? That kid would be suspended for the remainder of the season....period!

Yeah, I don't understand how it wasn't called under the current rules. I do remember a time, not too long ago when that was legal. When I played football that kind of thing happened all the time. Catching someone not looking was like getting candy for Halloween. Until the whistle blew you were fair game. Now if you even look at a quarterback mean you get the flag.

QB'S are going to take shots in that offense. This might have been a cheap shot, but Meyer better have a durable QB ready next year or maybe he 'll need two of them to make it through a season. Too many ball fakes, a defense is going to mistake the QB for having the ball some in that offense, it's what it is designed to do. Meyer needs too get used to teams hitting his QB as long as they play that offense, it's going to happen unless they start playing flag football.

I think CUM is getting the college game confused with the NFL. There is no provision to "protect the QB" in college he is just another player. The pro QB is often the franchise and worth millions hence the protection policy in the pros. Maybe Tebow will be "protected" next year but for now he lowers his head and runs like a fullback so he is going to take some hits.

If I'm not mistaken...I've seen college QB's(including Tebow) down field blocking....and to my knowledge, there is no problem with taking on/out a blocker?

Was it any worse than the play when an UF OL tried to cheap shot an Arky DL and then when he bounced off him the DL got an unnecessary roughness call?

I'm sorry but if Meyer got every bad call from here to the end of the season it wouldn't make up for the favorable calls he's gotten.

IMHO, this is nothing less than Meyer showing the rest of the SEC that he lives above the rules that govern them... just what a clinical narcissist would do.

I think this puts Slime's back to the wall. If he doesn't reprimand or suspend him then Slime has no credibility. If he does reprimand or suspend him, it will be a black eye for the SEC nationally. Can't wait to see how this thing plays out or if it even does.

Cheap Shots!

I just can't help to think of the CHEAP shot Alex Brown took on Tee Martin in the 1999 Florida game in Gainesville.

And of course nothing was called.

I think Florida has had and will always have their share of CHEAP SHOTS!

Why dont we just put flags on the QB and tell the defense not to tackle them but to pull their flags! Come on!!!! Its football for crying out loud!

It's ironic that the guy who allowed his QB to run the ball 20+ times in the next scheduled game after suffering a grade 3 concusion, now expresses concern over that same QB taking hits a month later.

No! Commissioner Slive has this covered. He just issued a new proposed SEC Bylaw 10.5.4-B which states... "Any player intentionally making contact with a Florida quarterback will be immediately suspended for the remainder of the season."

In the press conference announcing the proposed rule change, Slive went on to say, "It is becoming increasingly difficult for my friend Urban to field SEC championship teams when the other teams in the leagure continue to try to win ballgames. If this rule is not sufficient to insure that such behavior ends immediately, then SEC Bylaw 10.5.4-C will be considered. Under that rule, the coach of any conference team who's defensive player impedes the progress of a Florida player carrying the ball towards the goal line will be fined, suspended, and forced to be Urban Meyer's caddie at the next SEC Coaches Golf Tournament."

Really, how stupid is Meyer? Everybody thinks this guy is a genius - a retarded monkey would know better than to wipe his @$$ with Slive's mandate a week after it was written in stone.

The irony that Meyer is in this position makes me feel like I do after a Tennessee victory. Is there not a Vol fan that's not just giddy about this?! After all of the "Kiffin's big mouth" slamming by the gators... Karma's a beotch.

Slive HAS to bring the hammer down, lest he be viewed as Urban's bit<h. An example MUST be made of Urban. No matter what Slive does he will look like a chump. The fact that Urban's criticism was valid will be a lost in the controversy of him violating the rule to talk about it, the sad thing is that the SEC officiating will likely continue to suck.

Much like the Spikes one game punishment, nothing short of a two-game suspension of Meyer will pacify some of you.

Get ready to be disappointed. Meyer will likely be reprimanded and fined, and nothing more.

I really hope Meyer gets fined very soon or VolNation will swallow their collective tongues. Whatever happens, it will never appease you people.

If he is fined, it will not be enough and Slive is going too easy on him.

If he is suspended, it wont be harsh enough and Slive is in Urban's back pocket.

If he is not punished at all, Vol Nation will implode and storm Birmingham with torches and pitchforks.

no one seriously thinks that meyer should be suspended for what he said, the point is that after kiffin and petrino complained, all the coaches got a letter saying it would stop and if it didnt further action would be taken. its the fact that slive threatened everyone that he would suspend the next coach who spoke out against the officials and you now very well that if it had been kiffin that said that this week, monte would be the head coach come saturday. btw the spikes incident was very comparable to the blount punch and should have gotten a couple of games

I don’t think that Meyer should be reprimanded or fined and I don’t think that Slive wants to do either. I find it comical that Slive has backed himself into a corner due to his overreaction and vendetta against Kiffin.

Well played Lane. :clapping:
