Urban challenging Slive?

It's ironic that the guy who allowed his QB to run the ball 20+ times in the next scheduled game after suffering a grade 3 concusion, now expresses concern over that same QB taking hits a month later.

Yes, ironic.

By the way, while QBs must be protected, opposing RBs not so much. Wonder what Urbie would say if one of our guys pulled a Brandon Spikes on teabags?

no one seriously thinks that meyer should be suspended for what he said, the point is that after kiffin and petrino complained, all the coaches got a letter saying it would stop and if it didnt further action would be taken. its the fact that slive threatened everyone that he would suspend the next coach who spoke out against the officials and you now very well that if it had been kiffin that said that this week, monte would be the head coach come saturday. btw the spikes incident was very comparable to the blount punch and should have gotten a couple of games
You can't put Kiffin and Meyer on equal footing here simply because the harsher rules came down because Kiffin kept taking a dump on Slive's previous reprimands.

Had Kiffin said something this week, after the rules were changed because of things HE said in the past, I would expect the penalties to be much more harsh than if it were Richt, Petrino, Mullen or Meyer.

I don’t think that Meyer should be reprimanded or fined and I don’t think that Slive wants to do either. I find it comical that Slive has backed himself into a corner due to his overreaction and vendetta against Kiffin.

Well played Lane. :clapping:

VD, do you honestly believe that Slive has a vendetta against Kiffin?

UM will not get anything for complaining. After all he is at one of the "Privilegded schools"where they do not commit errors. Happy to see that Spikes is going to sit out the whole game to "avoid being a distraction".

I disagree.

Many people here think Meyer should be suspended, and if he isn't it's proof positive the SEC is in the tank for Florida.

they say that because of the letter that was mailed last week. if all the coaches hadnt got that memo and it only been sent to the ut, ua, and msu athletic depts then i nor anyone else could say anything about him being suspended. the whole thing is rediculous and if a ref screws up i think u should be allowed to call them out but since u cant and the letter was sent to EVERY ATH DEPT then we do have an argument and yes slive def has a problem with kiffin and prolly should haha

You have a very shaky understanding of what 'rules' are. There was no Kiffin mentioned in the new bylaw. If you weren't a gator, you'd know that Slive has showed favortism to the gators all year, and that this delayed reaction to clearly punishable statements a day after the rule was passed is already pretty telling about who Slive wants to discipline. My guess is that he won't do a thing to Meyer, and that the next time we hear anything about this new 'rule' is the next time Kiffin says something punishable.

I disagree.

You so slow. Of course a gator troll doesn't understand. We are saying that since we all know that Slive would have suspended Kiffin for those comments, we'd like to see some acknowledgment from Slive that Cryer isn't above this law. Nobody thinks any coach should be suspended for criticizing bad officiating. We just think Slive has double-standards when it comes to CUM. So far, there is good evidence to support our beliefs. Why don't you losers go to the UF site and agree that mullets and cut-offs are where it's at.

Why would Kiffin get suspended for making the same comments?

Also, and I confess I don't know the rule that well, is suspension for first offense or multiple?

Seriously?

A rule is a rule, it doesn't matter who you are or what you did previously. Once said rule is in place, which btw was approved by Foley, then you take the consequences of violating said rule.

You gators are really amazing with your convoluted logic.

"On rare occasions over the last seven years there were several private reprimands and that took care of the matter," Slive told the AP in a telephone interview. "On occasion there were public reprimands and that took care of it. It became clear to me after last week that I was no longer interested in reprimands and the conference athletic directors and university presidents unanimously agreed.

"For the foreseeable future there will be no reprimands," Slive added. "We will go right to suspensions and fines."

Thanks for the info. Are there particular things that the coach has to do to trigger it or is any complaining about the officiating enough under the rule?

Let's not forget that Meyer has already had a talking to from Slive about the pre and post game comments he and Kiffin had.

This isn't a first offense from Meyer.

That question is perhaps a large part of the beef here. It seems that one must ask Slive for the interpretation of the rule, who then appears to be asking Urban ...:eek:k:

Ha. Well, in tone and content, I would imagine the argument would be that the comments of Meyer versus those of Petrino or Mullen, have not been as ... harsh.

Amazing.

Is this what you all are falling back on now? He didn't sound as harsh as the others?

Every coach could just then say "Well, gee willikers, those refs are great and all, but I think they missed a call, but you know, it's alright, people make mistakes."

Critical of officiating is critical of officiating, no matter how much you want to sugar coat it.

So I guess now we'll see if Slive made his new rules for everyone, or just Lane.

Geez, relax Frances.

I'm not defending anyone on this, inclujding Meyer. If you ask me, all of the coaches should just stay mum on officiating matters and do what they have always been doing, which is sending in tape and letting the SEC handle it.

Not that there aren't legitimate complaints to be made -- there surely are -- its just that whenever this kind of thing gets going it seems there's no end to it. And then we are stuck parsing the differences, arguing about who was right or wrong in their comments, and then arguing over what punishment there ought to be for this one or that one.

Its a huge distraction, and waste of time.
