Urban challenging Slive?

Why would Kiffin get suspended for making the same comments?

Also, and I confess I don't know the rule that well, is suspension for first offense or multiple?

My guess is Kiffin would be suspended because his 'letter that means nothing' comment is the reason for the change in the rules. Also, Slive has been quick to jump on Kiffin and slow to defend him. Does anyone think Spurrier questioning CUM's frantic calling of a recruit during a visit would have resulted in Slive getting involved at all? We all saw what happened to Spurrier after he wrongly accused Kiffin of cheating by calling recruits before taking his test.. Nothing at all. Clearly, there is a double-standard in Slive's thinking.
Slive is rubbed the wrong way by our brash young coach (something I'm sure you understand, and CUM too), and he doesn't want the order messed up. Things are going great for the SEC, with the ESPN deal and all, and Slive thinks he's protecting that investment.
Suspension is just an option, but there is supposed to be a fine at least for any criticism, which CUM hasn't received yet. Hence our confusion. The comments weren't as bad as some of CLK's, but they do warrant a fine, according to the new bylaw.

Geez, relax Frances.

I'm not defending anyone on this, inclujding Meyer. If you ask me, all of the coaches should just stay mum on officiating matters and do what they have always been doing, which is sending in tape and letting the SEC handle it.

Not that there aren't legitimate complaints to be made -- there surely are -- its just that whenever this kind of thing gets going it seems there's no end to it. And then we are stuck parsing the differences, arguing about who was right or wrong in their comments, and then arguing over what punishment there ought to be for this one or that one.

Its a huge distraction, and waste of time.

I assume that Meyer is a smart person. Why do you think he did it? Did he fall into a trap or is this more calculating than that (i.e., I hear the whispers that we are getting special treatment. Let me do this and get a little slap on the wrist to get some street cred).

I'll keep posting this, Slive said "fines AND suspensions" NOT "fines AND/OR suspensions"... his wording exactly, which calls for both in response to ANY comments about officiating.

I think if this is what he was thinking, it will backfire on him, no one is going to give him "street cred" for this for standing up to the big bad SEC bully when it is perceived that he is already getting preferential treatment. To me, it comes across as whiny and disingenuous, especially coupled with his original 1/2 game suspension of Spikes.

Lil Wayne helps us again...Urbie simply can't keep up

I'm a Gator and think Urban should be suspended for the Vandy game.

Slive made the rules clear and Urban definitely broke them.

If I was a betting man, I'd wager that this is what Urban wants to happen and is working out the details with Slive. Perhaps they worked it out even before Meyer made his comments.

I can't tell if you are trying to defend your coach or not.

Like Kiffin, I don't think Meyer is concerned with the consequences.

The biggest BS in this whole mess is that the SEC still hasn't "done" anything other than state "punishment is forthcoming". It gives me great pleasure to imagine Slive in a corner of his office, balled up like a small child, sucking his thumb, rocking and crying as he tries to decide what to do.

Like Kiffin, I don't think Meyer is concerned with the consequences.

It has been speculated in Atlanta media that he was under a lot of pressure due to the perceived light punishment of Spikes and let his emotions get the better of him. In an effort to defend his decision he used this incident to try and deflect criticism (i.e., they hit Tebow late and were not called for a penalty…).

I'm not trying to defend him. He broke a clear rule with clear consequences. It seems to me that the commissioner has no choice but to sanction Meyer.

But I think there is a fair chance that there is more here than meets the eye. Meyer may be angling for this punishment as a positive in the larger scheme of things.

Anything is possible but I don't buy that theory. Rival fans are certainly worked into a frenzy over the whole Slive/Meyer conspiracy theory nonsense but I can assure you Meyer and Foley are unfazed.

Talked to them personally? You are pathetic.

This is the most idiotic post of the day.

If you think they are sitting around gnawing their nails and sand saying "Oh no, what are we going to do"? then you are sadly mistaken. He is preparing his team for Saturday and the BCS championship run.

Duh.....you are weak and sad

Yeah, I'm quite sure that Urban is so unfazed....He's really a cool dude . However, I still remember the year one- Urban Myers, who was so unfazed, that when interviewed on TV during the bama game beatdown...that he couldn't even put a coherent, or recognizable sentence together.
