Urban challenging Slive?

This conference, the SEC, is bigger than just "one" man.

The SEC was here long before Mr. Slive received his first gig as Conference comm. back in '91 and the SEC will continue to be here long after he has left.

As of today, we have 1000 days until his contract expires as SEC commissioner.

Hopefully his reign ends then.

Slive is an attorney also.

And he was a Judge at one point during his career, that doesn't have any influence on contract negotiations.

He's accomplished quite a lot on a personal level but to give him almost full credit for the ESPN/TV contract deal is asinine.

I'll bite then...in your opinion does Slive deserve any credit at all?

He deserves credit for getting out of the way while the conference won several national championships this decade. Whatever has happened, whether he is going senile, or he is getting the big head, he is now making a mockery of this conference. From the outside it is starting to look like the WWE and Slive is playing the part of Vince McMahon.

so money is more important than the game itself... whats the point then. lets have people get shot during the game so ratings will go up, and we can throw in some drama.... maybe a love triangle.

That is 999 days too long!

None. The contract is about TV ratings. The influx of superstar coaches and national title beatdowns 3 years running did the trick. Slive gets credit like Clinton did for the Internet economic boom.

Good example.

Looks like we'll have to agree to disagree.

Clearly Slive is just a trained monkey whose only purpose is to write letters of reprimand to coaches who question the competency of the officials in one particular sport (out of many sports) this particular commissioner is responsible for overseeing.

Good example.

No it really isn't. It's actually a really bad analogy.

Clinton had no direct bearing or oversight over the various companies that made the internet boom happen. Clinton was not an employee of Cisco, Microsoft, Intel or any of the telecommunications companies that fueled the internet boom.

Mike Slive on the other hand is employed by the Southeastern Conference, to directly oversee and manage the affairs and business interests of the Southeastern Conference. If something good or bad happens on his watch he should receive some sort of credit or blame.

You're lost. Clinton's admin still had more to do with the boom than Slive has had with SEC success. His job is ceremonial. Clinton still had tax policy with which to impact investment, hence had some say. Slive has 0. That's comparable to what you know about the commish functions.

Meyer has really done some damage to his public image not only in terms of class and integrity but intelligence as well -- by how poorly he's handling the whole Spikes thing and the officiating in the game. Duh!

He's hurt Florida's and the SEC's image much more than was necessary as well. Swift issuance of a full game suspension, Spikes appology and keeping his mouth shut about officiating and anything UGA players may have done would have been the smart and proper way to handle it. And the media coverage would have been much more favorable.

I agree. Wow can't believe I just said that. The whole Spikes thing is a joke. Credit Spikes for standing up and saying he needed a full game suspension. Then Meyer goes and tries to say it was everybody's decision...covering his own behind. I think his questionable decision making could go all the way back to the Tebow concussion...he had only been cleared a day or so ahead of time and Meyer threw him full steam back in the heat of things. If he had gone down again, Meyer would have been run out of Florida. Once again, it seems winning is more important than players' health and discipline...

The Telecommunications Act of 1996 was the legislation that helped fuel the internet boom. And if you're giving Clinton credit for tax policy regarding capital investment, then you have to give Slive and his staff some credit for leveraging the lucrative asset he's tasked with managing, growing revenue and creating alternative channels of distribution.

We can go back and forth all night on this. Bottom line is I understand many of you guys wouldn't piss on Slive if he was on fire, but the man deserves some credit for leveraging SEC football into the richest TV deal in history. To say he deserves no credit whatsoever at all is asinine.

nothing happens, end of story

That's Slive's best option at this point. Make a stupid rule and then crawl back into the stupid hole from which the rule emerged. Once he gets there, if he wants to keep his job, that's exactly where he should stay. The Power trip he is on either ends with him tucking his tail and keeping his job or tucking his tail after losing it.

As for how CUM handled the Spike's criminal act of violence on the field with his half-game suspension, I fail to see how that is any different from the way he's failed to discipline his team in the past. It's the sort of discipline that gets 25 players arrested in 4 years on the job. The lack of discipline will bring him down at UF if he stays long enough to demonstrate that principle.

I don't give a shat about Slive either way. I's say the same if CM Newton was still pretending too.

The telecommunications act had nothing whatsover to do with the venture and market capital that flew into the tech sector. Cap gains and marginal rates drove the train, which started in the 80s. Clinton avoiding his tax the rich tendencies actually kept from squashing the movement before it started.

The only thing the government has ever done to help the internet economy has been to stay out of the way. Except for the ARPNET research that became the primitive internet, government has helped the best when it helped the least.

Says the fan of the school that many think Slive favors, interesting.

Yes, clearly there's a conspiracy alive and well to keep Florida alive in the national title hunt.

Florida, the school that had its SEC title vacated for doing under Charley Pell what Bama did under the Bear for years.

Florida, the Johnny Come Lately whose championship pedigree is less than 20 years old.

Florida, the black sheep of the SEC because it's not in a traditional southern state (unless you're talking North Florida).

Florida is the SEC's new sacred cow....unbelievable... :eek:lol:

Silve and ESPN needs to get off tebow and floridas cock, its annoying as hell. Its like segregation, top teams get the good restrooms while were left with crap
