USU Scrimmage

Kudos. Most accurate and insightful post you've made. Those are some of the reasons that staff is no longer at UT. I have to give credit where it is due. It took many of us much longer to reach that conclusion.

ag4fr, sorry, you ran right into that one at full speed.
I saw your post and started to explain to you about the Dooley recruiting era. But then thought, let it go. Then along came a duck. Was bound to happen.

Just know that the bulk of us, probably all of us, wish DG the best. I think it speaks well of the UT that even our failures are good enough to succeed elsewhere. Not being snide, I assure you, I'm not being snide. When you have seen the outcomes of the likes of Nu'Keese Richardson, Marketh Ambles and other such players of former UT coaching regimes--then turn around and see a kid like DG making good, it removes a lot of bad taste from the mouth. So know, we really do wish him the very best. I hope he's a star in your program. I hope he gets all-conference honors. Leads the conference in interceptions, tackles, and just blows up your conference big time. In meantime, watch out for ducks, they do a lot more than just quack. Or you'll end up with: Ei auf dem Gesicht

I don't care if it is past, present, or future, I'm not a fan of talking down 18 - 23 year old kids.

A few of you guys are gracious enough, but others of you are really jerks toward your former player.

The facts are that Daniel Gray is/was:

1. Good enough to be a highly rated recruit by many programs coming out of high school.

Wasnt really a highly rated recruit. 5.5 3*. And he only had 6 offers. I dont count that as "many"

2. Good enough to be signed by "Top Ten Program" and "Perennial SEC Power", Tennessee.

Derek Dooley

3. Good enough to be thrown into the fire as a true freshman while playing for UT and get significant playing time. I'm not sure there are many college cornerbacks that are good enough to play as true freshmen. Let alone in the SEC.

He was thrown into the fire because we didnt have enough CBs that year. Only like 5 or 6

Now, according to some of you, he is terrible and will never amount to anything on the football field.

The logical conclusions therefore must be:

1. UT coaches that recruited Daniel Gray were LOUSY evaluators of talent.

True

2. UT coaches that threw him into the game as a true freshman had zero idea what they were doing.

True + we didnt have any depth

3. UT coaches that coached Daniel Gray were very poor in their teaching and player development.

True, they were horrible. They didnt even make the team workout

I realize some of this is just pre-season jockeying, but I would ask you to show a little respect for a kid that came and gave UT his time and heart and mind.

I was upset to see him go because of depth concerns, but am ok with it now because he wouldnt be starting now anyways.

It's a small person that would not wish a kid well if/when he decides that he needs to transfer to another school... for whatever reason.

Wish him the best, except against us

Gray was recruited to UT because he had raw speed. He wasn't a very good football player.

Maybe he's GREAT now. I don't think anyone here wishes him ill... but he left UT because he wasn't going to play very much and needed a fresh start. He landed with you because he didn't want to try to compete with BCS level talent for PT.

Nice to see that an ex-Vol is making a bit of noise elsewhere. This is the second positive reference I have seen about Daniel Gray at USU. I'd love to know who threw that pass ole Dan Gray stole. Would you happen to know, ficklez?

USU Scrimmage 2: Daniel Gray intercepts Darell Garretson - YouTube

Hope the guy finds his niche and does well there.

Just a guess here, but could be Darell Garretson.

Yanno because the title of the video says " Daniel Gray intercepts Darell Garretson"

yeah, i was going to say the same.

and that was a horrid pass. high and wobbly, and the receiver didnt even attempt to catch it.

Can someone tell me who that QB was throwing to?

Mtns were pretty in the background btw. I have been to SLC and was surprised at how beautiful Utah is.

I paused the video to get the number and checked their spring roster. Heres what I came up with

18. Ronald Butler 6-0 185 WR SR

You realize Gray was a Dooley recruit, right? So check "yes" to all three.

This is the first post of urs that I agree with. He was a freshman so I had hope of him getting better with experience.

As far as your as your assessment or whatever of our previous staff its pretty much spot on

I also like how you managed to take a shot at the SEC when your team plays teams that would get destroyed in the SEC

I read on the USU forum that Daniel started 5 or 6 games for us. I thought, Wow, I don't remember that. It's true he started one game for us, against Troy at home. He didn't play against NC St, made 2 solo tackles against GSU, played with no stats against FL, Akron, and on the road at UGA, then did not play on the road at MSU, played with no stats against Bama, had 1 solo tackle against USCe on the road, started against Troy and had 2 solo and 1 assisted tackles, played with no stats in a 4 OT loss against Mizzou and didn't play against Vandy or Kty.

I think he's going to start for USU this year and I wish him well. I hope he develops to be an all-conference player. I think it's entirely possible that he may be the best athlete in the USU secondary this year. :)

Seriously, he went through a fall of practice against CP and JH among others so I think he'll know what to expect from North, VP, Malone, & Croom. Maybe he'll call in sick that day. :eek:lol:

Good Luck Daniel!

This team will struggle to make a bowl game again. We still lack team speed and overall talent is pathetic is some areas. (2 more years of Butch's recruiting is needed in a bad way)

With that being said we will slaughter Utah State.

Well, yeah. Mostly 3.

You asked how many true freshman get thrown into starting in the SEC. Sutton was our starting corner for the whole season this last year as a true freshman and he played great against a much harder schedule than gray had to play against.

Actually it isn't that uncommon for Fr to start in the SEC due to need, injury, or extreme talent. Gray's PT had to do with the first two. He was a very good athlete but not a very good football player at UT. Maybe that's changed. It doesn't appear that he's gotten much bigger or stronger. We'll see.

this.

freshman start all over the SEC every yr. RB is a position that freshman really excel at in this league. Ole miss is just the best recent example. last yr they had Tunsil,Golson,Engram, Nkemdiche, Connor, Treadwell all out there playing. if you got extremely talented guys let em at it. talent is still king.experience is big too but you can acquire that.

I think our team has a decent idea of what is coming. Not their first rodeo...

Y'all really like to talk a lot of smack for a program that hasn't amounted to squat in recent memory.

Doubt it? Give me your list of your top 5 wins in the past 3 seasons.

You can spout off about the last 3 years all you want...but what you need to recognize is that in our current coaches first year, we had a top 15 team on the ropes in reg, should have won it then, then had them on the ropes in OT, again should have won...then we BEAT A TOP 10 TEAM...yes, we lost down the stretch to 3 top 5 teams at the time, Bama, Mizzou, Aubie but we made tremendous progress under Butch...then look at the recruiting class he brought in, consensus TOP 5, where was yours again? So you can throw out the prior 2 years before that bc of the coach...now to END THIS DISCUSSION...

HOW MANY NATIONAL TITLES DOES UTAH STATE HAVE?

Bye Bye...

Point 1-- I thought ag4fr said he was leaving.
Point 2-- Putting him on IGNORE or refusing to answer him will shut him up.
Point 3-- I hope he sticks around until after the game is played, just to see what he will say. Hopefully, when we win, no one will start casting insults at him. Because then he wins by bringing out the very conceit in you that he has posted about before. But it would be interesting to see if for all his mouth, he has the dignity to congratulate without snideness, resentment, or spite.

But you really want him gone, why maintain the exchanges of posts like this? On the other hand, if you don't really want him gone, this is a perfect way to keep him. :)

I don't want him gone...I'm just trying to shut hm up about the last 3 years, TN is more than that and people seem to have forgotten...it is gonna bite them in their butts.

Besides, what history does UTAH STATE really have that could even try nd compare to TN? We are a Multi National Championship University...not a flash in a pan mid major program that surprised a team or two...

Good advice Woods...I vow...after the bloodletting, not to dwell on his social deficiencies...or highlight the fun fact that he has to outsource for fertilization of his mate!!

You're right...this approach feels better :huggy:

I can't argue with that, Big O.

Now, for the real test, can I practice what I preach? HMMMM. In agrf4's case I believe so, his posts are too repetitive for my tastes anyway.
