UT or UNC for the Last #1 Seed

Has anyone in the media even mentioned that ZZ was rusty(to say the least) for our OOC slate as he was ~7-8 months removed from an ACL tear? We are a completely different team and he's a completely different player with how he's played the second half of the season.

I feel like the cake has to be baked for UNC at this point but 100% that should be a factor in our resume.

An insightful interview with one of the executives on the Committee. He did confirm they seeded the 1-line last night, but gave himself some wiggle room to change things if needed.

I took his comments to say 3 of the 1 seeds are totally locked in and 3 or 4 are in consideration for the last spot. I know he said they laid out the 1st draft of 1 seeds already, but in no way do I think they've settled on that 4th spot. At the same time, the tone of a subsequent answer led me to believe we shouldn't expect a lot of movement in seeding for anyone based on the conference tournaments.

I’m going with Lunardi on this. If he’s correct, it is good for business. So it seems to me that he’d make it his business to be right.

(And if that means sweet talking the secretary of the head of the committee or whatever … I mean, if I were making a living predicting stuff- I’d damn well make sure I knew what I was talking about….better call Saul if need be 😂).

7-6 against quad 1 really really doesn't inspire confidence, even though I know we are much better now than we were in some of our early quad 1 losses.
Who those quad 1 games were against and where they were played matter though. We did take some early lumps against top 10 teams but what gives me confidence is going and getting those quad 1 wins at UK and at Bama.

If only head to head were things that committees considered for rankings or seeding purposes.

I don’t really care between the “4th” Number 1 seed, or the “1st” number 2 seed. Every game is a matchup and who else is in your bracket is just as important. Last year there were no #1 or #2 in the Final Four if my memory is correct. A #4 seed, two #5 seeds, and a #9 seed.

Historically, #1s make the final four at a much higher clip than other seeds. I’m taking the 1 seed over a 2 seed, even if it means playing in Wuhan as a 1 instead of playing as a 2 seed in Knoxville. Lol.

I get what you’re saying but with everyone having a nearly completed resume at this point these conference games aren’t going to move teams around enough to make a significant impact on our resume.
They very well can. and not just US people always act like everything happens in a vacuum. Think of it like a football game.. Your team is down 30-10 some would say you need 3 tds (plus extra points) to win. But in reality, you have to score 3 TD's and stop them from scoring. We are very close with UNC in ratings so a few teams on our schedule and their schedule under or overperforming can do a lot to affect that gap. We currently have #4 SOR they have #5 our SOR is the main thing keeping us ahead of them. So we want us to play and beat the higher seeds possible and them to either lose or play worse teams. Assuming we win out if we lose who we lose to is also important. Seriously had we lost our last game to any SEC team other than Kentucky we would likely be out of the 1 seed conversation.. that's how much it matters.

Yes, strength of schedule matters but most if that is already set so at this stage I just don’t think it’s as critical as you think it is. You have your conjecture and I have mine.

Lunardi just said that he thinks if both UNC and Tennessee win their conference tournament, TN is likely the 1-seed.
Fun fact: with Duke out of the ACC tournament, North Carolina will not have a chance to get a win better than our first opponent in the SEC tournament.

He’ll keep flip flopping until one team loses. UNC’s wins can’t match our wins now. Let’s hope Mr. Blake Hinson shows up with some March Madness. They’re right on the edge of making the tournament, UNC is going to get their absolute best.

Hey, I hope you’re right because that NC State win over Duke would help us.

correct and if NC State or even BC make the final that helps us also and thats whether or not UNC beats Pitt. It would knock down the net rating of Duke and Virginia which would not be great for NC their best wins this year were VS Duke..Best case scenario is they lose to Pitt and then Pitt turns around and loses to BC or NC State in the final. So far SEc brackets are working well for UT we want Florida to beat UGA tonight it would mean all the top seeds advance Miss State over LSU was two teams that were basically a wash. At this point, if we win out we are set because all the metrics will fall in place as we will gain more than UNC does.

Some folks say it won’t matter .. to give us the two seed in Dallas. I’ve seen Houston play a few times this year, trust me VOLS do NOT want anything to do with that team. 15 quad one wins and ten straight wins over good teams. The one seed out west is THE path to our first final 4

With all the nuances that apparently go into putting a field together, I just can't imagine the decision being delayed until the SEC championship is decided on Sunday. Then again, I think UNC gets the nod regardless.

Buckle up. I've been expecting just that since the UK loss. If Knecht felt beat up after SCjr, just wait until that bunch takes their turn.

The teams we have beaten out of conference are doing great in their tournaments right now.
Our SEC losses so far ( SC, TxAM, Miss ST) have 1 win so far.
We beat Miss St tomorrow, I think it’s a wrap.
I mentioned that NC needed to at least play against Duke to get any more quality opportunities. With Duke out (especially against NCstate) makes the ACC tournament irrelevant
