Vitello Will Not Leave Tennessee. . .

From the recording shared It sounded like a lot depends on the construction and stuff. If things are slow go there I believe he will leave sooner than later. The part about the T was the most hopefully part of keeping him.

I don't think people need to pick apart his recording looking for hidden meaning. It's probably just as simple as it sounds. He isn't leaving. They're finalizing terms on the deal and he wants to ensure the stadium is taken care of, and once that is done it'll be announced. No cause for alarm.

I know the ink isn’t dry on the contract yet, but I just want to say that, based on that radio interview with Vitello this morning, that the vast majority of us were spot on in our assessment of TV - a man with tremendous character, appreciation for the fanbase that rallied around this team, and loyalty to the school who gave him a shot.

There’s no reason TV can’t be our version of Corbin or O’Sullivan. I still say the most important thing to happen this year was the fan support showing up and out for those Vandy, Arky and then Hoover games. He knew then he could build a powerhouse at UT, and conversely, UTAD knew we would support it.

I agree with all of this, and particularly your observation about the outpouring of fan support being an important factor for both CV and the UTAD. I think he was a bit stunned to see the fan base turn out in droves, and eluded to it either in his Regional or Super Regional postgame pressers. He said something about growing up in Saint Louis and being aware of UT's fan support during Summitt's and Fulmer's heydays. It's one thing to witness it from afar, but it really makes an indelible impression to witness it in person. And he could see the steady progression from the Vandy series, to full capacity for the Arky series, to Hoover, to Regionals and Super Regionals, and then in Omaha during the impromptu VolWalk at the team hotel and at TD Ameritrade. He even commented about the fan support for the final midweek game against Belmont.

Similarly, I think the Block Party especially made an impression on White, and he said the turnout showed him the passion of fans and what they do when supporting a winning Tennessee team.

Loyalty has been a through line in many of CV's interviews since his introductory presser 4 years ago. It truly means something to him.

I just listened to that and whew if I were a Missouri alum/fan that comment about his alma mater is a knife to the heart....

Yes, it probably does. Many Mizzou fans and alums wanted CV as their coach, but the previous AD Rhoades passed him over for Biser. They are cursing Rhoades to this day. Even though CV has been diplomatic about moving on and changing times, I think being passed over by his alma mater still gets to him.

Well said… and most effective usage of the multi quote I think I’ve ever seen on Volnation : )

I’m not sure if anyone else has posted this yet, but Rivals is reporting that LSU is zeroing in on Johnson: “It seems as if the LSU head coaching search is nearing an end as sources tell TigerDetails that current Arizona coach Jay Johnson has moved to the top of the list of candidates to replace Paul Mainieri as LSU’s head coach. There is growing confidence amongst sources that he will be named the next LSU head coach after going through the vetting process.”

I went back and watched Coach Vitello's introductory press conference when he first got hired 4 years ago. He mentioned then his Italian heritage and that loyalty was huge with him and that he was so thankful that the University of Tennessee had enough faith in him to give him his shot. Certainly the admin has changed a couple of times since then and money talks, but I think CTV is as real as it comes. UT needs to get off it's wallet and decide whether to fish or cut bait with the baseball program. I think with Danny White, that's exactly what they'll do.

I don’t know his full resume, but I was a lot more worried about Godwin being in the SEC. Am I wrong to think that?
