VN Baseball Coaching Search 2011

"Not having a degree... doesn't set a good example"...That's what everyone was so worried about when Kiffin, his daddy and O were around, yeah right....They set a great example, bend the rules, break the rules while laughing at you boss. Let's not even get into their comments and their actions in the community. Monte, whew...

"we look like clowns" We do, we have for a while, the school lacks leadership, none of it has much to do with who coaches baseball.

Let's try to remember that the rest of the country, thinks about the SEC the way Hat thinks about the Big West. Apologies to Vandy.

I was speaking about football. I think most people understand what football is all about. Otherwise, someone would have checked up on O'Leary's resume and transcript years ago.

Dooley has to roll the dice on kids that might not be able to read. That's part of the gig. Because of roster size in baseball, you better make damn sure kids have the ability to get it done in the classroom. I just think it takes away credibility when a coach is making sure kids are going to class but he didn't go himself.

This isn't an attack on the non-degree having public at large.

I'm not sure why people seem to be having such a difficult time grasping those two points.

"That which seperates its warriors from its scholars will have its thinking done by cowards and its fighting done by fools"

The separation here is being done by Serrano. He chose not to get a real degree.

did we interview Bradshaw for the basketball hc? Tee Martin for the football job?

I say go after the head coach of Farragut....I'm sure he has a degree and has HC experience.

There was one coaching clinic, can't tell you when or where, that Polk literally had a group of 100 coaches laughing until they cried.

The article just points out his experience and that he'd be willing to lend advice, which based on Hamilton's last baseball hire, couldn't hurt.

Do you hire for a university? If not, I don't care in the least what you think about UT actually behaving like an institution of higher learning and demanding employees have degrees.

Wow spoken like a true elitist..... And no I do not hire for a University, we actually make a profit:)

Yeah, real elitist. Thinking people in teaching positions at a University should have a college degree. That's real high brow stuff.

why not see if polk would take the job for 4 or 5 years with burke on the staff preparing to take over?

Have you ever spoke with Polk? One of the best conversations I've ever had.

I had a 15 minute one-on-one with Polk back in 2007. If you look past the accomplished coach with a great sense of comedic timing, he's just a grumpy old man who can see the end.
