VN Baseball Coaching Search 2011

Where are you getting that info Zas? Maybe it's mutual...From what I've read on Fullerton's message boards, Serrano might have some explaining to do, if he stays, that is.

Hyams reports that candidates have been interviewed and that a hire is likely next week. No indication who has been interviewed. fwiw

Something has got people in athletic dept. stirring. Signees have been contacted a couple of times in the last 48hrs with info about their schedules for summer classes etc.....until the last couple of days none of them had heard a word from anyone at UT.

Serrano must be on the plane to Knoxville.

RT @patrickbrownTFP Interim UT AD Cronan on baseball hire: "That’s one of 1st things on my agenda. .. We’ll hopefully move pretty quickly."

"Getting the sense that Tennessee's AD switch makes Chad Holbrook a likelier fit—though won't be easy for him to leave. Serrano still in mix."

Maybe that Holbrook interview was just him trying to play it down until the Gamecocks are out of the tournament. Not tip his hand as to start a panic in South Carolina.

Very well could be that. The part that got me was the part about his family and the fact he's in no hurry to be a HC.

Here's the other thing I've been thinking about. I don't think the AD/BOT etc. desire to hire a coach that uses us as a stepping stone. I'm not saying Holbrook would do that, but based on his family situation and his comments, it might be a concern. Pure speculation on my part.

My feeling is if you can get Holbrook here for four, five years and he bolts for SC or NC, will the job be more attractive? I think the guy can recruit, i think we'd have the talent to compete.

Serrano wants to be here and I think this is a destination job for him. That said, almost all the women's jobs require a degree if not a masters, so what's Cronan's veiw on Serrano?

Just some food for thought.

Here's what we know. Joan Cronan will be the person who takes the name to Cheek for approval. After perusing the net, it is my opinion, that she is on it. She's going to own this hire as she has done with all of her hires as the Lady Vol AD. She doesn't seem like the type to just take sombody's word on something like this. Infact, while many folks around these parts don't care too much about Vol Baseball and the hire that will occur, this is a BIG DEAL to her. For the time being, she is the woman in charge on The Hill. This is the most high profile hire she's ever made.

If we take her word for it, it's going to happen "quickly."

This brings me to the "baseball commitee" we've heard about. Who is on it? Is it split? Who has been interviewed? The best I can tell, Serrano has probably interviewed, Burke has probably interviewed, maybe Honeycutt as well. I still don't know if Holbrook has interviewed but he's been contacted. McDonnell and Schlossnagle were probably gauged on interest. That's not a real big list, but those, for the most part, are the big names.

What about Pierce? I didn't know until today that he has a son, currently a junior, on his team. Would he leave before his son has finished his college career? Has he been contacted or interviewed? He's a Bama grad, is this a destination job or a stepping stone?

There are a host of names a little down on the VN list once you get to Pierce, like Scott Stricklin who is HC at Kent State, his alma mater.

My question for VN, how far down the list do you go before Burke is your man? If McDonnell, Schlossnagle, Holbrook and Serrano don't take/get the job how disappointed will you be? 3 out of the 4 are proven HC's and the other is an Associate HC at an SEC school with an out of the park recruiting reputation. I think those are the home run hires, and of those, it appears Serrano wants the job the most, but does Tennessee want him?

Finally, how come Haney, Rogers, Fitt, etc. seem to have more info on this search than the Vol beat writers?

Oh, one more thing. Just a wish from an average UT fan. I would like to see Cronan go back to a candidate(s), that might have turned us down and try her hand at selling them on the job. Well, if she thinks that coach would be best for Tennessee.

Darn, forgot something else...there are some conflicting reports(loosely) out in space. 1. Hire will take place early next week. 2. Interviews will start next week. Don't know if either are correct, but that's part of the story I guess. Apologies for the editing, I've been potty training my son this week, and my brain is scrambled eggs. GBO!

I wouldn't mind Stricklen or Honeycutt. I just want someone who wants to be here and has previous coaching experience. Hopefully, we don't have to worry about going to far down the list.

Thanks, I'm starting to get in realistic fan mode myself, just putting what could have been out of mind.lol. There's still hope...I hope.
