Someone who speaks legalese please explain how TR could be owed more than the year left on his contract.

He thanks SOME asst.'s and SOME families, and the last line lol. interesting.

Serrano's Titans are sitting at #10, yet the poll on GVX has him sitting a distant 4th to 3 guys that have never coached a college team.

How did the meeting take 8 mins? They must have had snacks.

"Coach, going to have to let you go.....thanks" 6 seconds, tops

"uh, well, uh, you know, we gave it a shot you know, and the problems we faced, and the injuries and stuff, uh, you know, it was just too much....see ya around I guess....and, uh, I'll pass along a forwarding address for the..uh.....checks, you know" 1:00 ....tops....even with that slow drawl

Nobody had a pen.

(So much for my theory lol, Hyams said there was no paperwork, nothing signed, that seems odd.)

Heard Wilkerson say that he thinks Lawson might be the interim coach. Some kind of meeting went on with Hamilton and the assistants, but I haven't heard about anything.

I always felt it was an odd career move, as I was under the impression that Lawson was fairly well regarded in the scouting industry. I think this particular situation was the main reason he took the assistant coaching job in the first place- the writing was on the wall in regards to Raleigh, and he wanted a chance to run an SEC program.

I know some on this board really, REALLY do not like Coach Lawson, so please do not take this as me lobbying for him to be named the next head baseball coach at UT, it's just some speculation on the situation. Go Vols

Burke and it's not even close.

Why is that? Lawson has recruited. He's been an asst. He's even been a HC. He's had at least some experience with administrative side of things, which actually is the most worrisome part for me with Burke. Not arguing, just curious.

I always liked Burke - hard-nosed player with a head for the game - but isn't it a bit of a stretch for your first coaching gig to be head coach of an SEC program?

You beat me to the punch, haha.

Thanks. i'm just a casual fan. I don't know Burke or Lawson or any of the players personally. I know very little about the "goings on" behind the scenes. I just think it's a little odd, that former players are the only folks mentioned by the media. Kind of like hiring Al Wilson to be the HC of the football team. Maybe he would be great, there's just no track record.

I do not know Burke personally (but have played with/against some that did), and my dealings with Lawson are limited to being recruited by him and a couple of conversations in college after he had moved into scouting. But I do agree that it is very odd that so many are dead-set on hiring a former player with no HC experience.
At the first college I attended, a former player with no HC experience was hired when the head coach moved into the AD role (this facilitated my transfer to another school). While the coach in question went straight from the minors to our pitching coach the year I was there, this FAR from qualified him to be HC. Needless to say, he tanked and was fired after only 2 or 3 seasons.
I'm not saying that Burke has no chance to be successful, but it would go against the norm for someone without HC experience to come in and do well in the SEC. Regardless of what polls may say, in my mind, the ideal candidate would have to be Dave Serrano.
