Volinbham Talks Marketing and Bud Light

so the idea of inclusivity and marketing it is ok, but an entity actually putting it into practice is unacceptable?

I think it was the recording of the VP saying she wanted to change the clientele (or something along those lines) more than the hiring of Mulvaney or the can. She basically told BL drinkers to piss off and they did.

I agree. It's also why I don't think simply the passage of time fixes the issue.

Did she say "change clientele" or change branding? I'm pretty sure she just said change branding and attract younger customers, and sensitive customers turned that into "they don't want me anymore." But maybe I'm missing something she said.

“I’m a businesswoman, I had a really clear job to do when I took over Bud Light, and it was ‘This brand is in decline, it’s been in a decline for a really long time, and if we do not attract young drinkers to come and drink this brand there will be no future for Bud Light.’”

“We had this hangover, I mean Bud Light had been kind of a brand of fratty, kind of out-of-touch humor, and it was really important that we had another approach,” she said.

Bud Light’s marketing VP was inspired to update ‘fratty,’ ‘out of touch’ branding

I don't know exactly what was said just IMO it did more damage than the can or hiring Mulvaney. It was after some recording of her came out that I heard about the boycott.

Pretty sure that's the quote (from a pod) that led to the butthurt, and it's pretty silly and sensitive to take any of that personally.

How’s it any different than your flailing over the movie “sound of freedom” over in the movies thread? You ranted in there about Jim caviezel because you don’t like him for whatever the reason was, and it’s not just you. I keep reading/seeing leftists post about not supporting that movie because of caviezel. But taking issue with bud light promoting a sicko prancing around in school girl uniforms and talking about his “period” is silly/butthurt etc?

People have been realizing that for a while, which is why BL made the stupid decision to begin with to put Mulvaney on the can. They don't really know how to stop the decline, so they waded into the culture wars (ESPN does the same thing).

Their market share and sales have been stagnant for over a decade due to craft.
Man, it's not even the craft beer to me. I can go grab one of the cheap beers from Mexico (Tecate, Modelo, etc.) or something like Yuengling in the same or lower price range and it kicks Bud Light's ass. One thing I've noticed in my travels, too, is that the cheap local lager in every other country is so much better than Bud Light. I think we have a taste problem here in the US.

I don’t like raw tomatoes or beef liver.

Oh, no doubt. I made the switch from Miller Lite to Modelo years ago as my "staple beer" and all big Mexican beers (Corona, Pacifico, Dos Equis, Tecate) are good. Yuengling is such an underrated brew. But craft has been taking market share even from all of those brands over the last 10-15 years and is the reason for their decline.

And you're 100% about the cheap lager being better in basically any foreign country.

Yeah, guilty. I don't understand stupidity or snowflakeness. whichever it is I have no interest in understanding.
You and @n_huffhines can complain until the cows come home that the BL drinkers shouldn’t be mad.

You can call them any name(s) you choose.

Something was clearly different with BL when compared to Coors. I mean you can at least see that, right?

You keep screaming that they are the same.
They are not the same. Obviously.
You are incapable, or unwilling.

Their entire argument is that everyone is basically retarded. I'm not really shocked from the huff guy, he thinks he's the smartest dude in the entire world.

All this should/would BS nonsense is laughable. And displays a fundamental lack of understanding.

You know what matters?

It’s the opinion of the people that buy your product. Full stop.

Confused and hateful about it. And the total mental collapse over twitter and Elon is hilarious.

He tries to identify as a “libertarian” that somehow believes illegal immigration is ok and supports government welfare among other things. He also thinks the wnba is successful.

I am surprised he hasn't been forced aside. He's shown a stunning lack of leadership here and zero vision for how to clean this up. Doesn't matter if you agree with the boycott or not. His job is to protect shareholder value and he hasn't demonstrated he's capable of doing that.
Agreed. He’s done nothing to improve the situation.

I’m starting to think the CEO might not survive this either.
I’ll buy that he didn’t know on the front end.
But his actions and leadership after the fact have been impotent.

eggzarchary. you were told to be triggered without knowing the facts, and you got triggered. you in the general sense.

which is why I don't understand the outrage.

you can go back in this thread to see it play out. People were thinking at first the BL was selling these cans with his face on it. I had to point out that they weren't, it was a marketing piece. People assumed they made thousands of these and were going to replace the BL brand with Mulaney, somehow. again it was one single can, as part of a 24 can release made specifically for various influencers, each one got a can with their face. people assumed things about the marketing VP statements, without actually knowing them. People assumed BL was the first one to "embrace" the trans community, I have pointed out multiple times, they all do this.

all we are left with is women are generally ticked off by a comedian to the point of boycotting a product that hired this comedian. hence me being completely unable to accept all the bs reasoning that gets thrown around.

yeah, I am incapable of understanding how its acceptable to support a general movement, Coors, but not ok to support a specific piece of said movement. supposedly LGBT is "ok", but this one example of LGBT is to be derided and boycotted. and the best explanation you have is women got emotional about it, forgive me if women getting emotional about something doesn't change my world view on the matter.

the average American is dumber than a box of rocks, being a few points above that doesn't qualify one for Mensa, so while I wouldn't go as far as retarded, dumb fits quiet well. and lets face it, the people drinking lots of light domestic beer aren't typically the shiniest examples of intelligence to be found. I love how people are just now realizing because of this that BL is crap product, again it doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure that out.

I would go with everyone is a triggered snowflake/sheep.

You have me confused with another if you think I said this was about “women”. Women are not driving this, it is Men.

I’ve explained it to you. But you won’t take your fingers out of your ears, too busy stomping your feet.

And you still think Coors Light and Bud Light are the same? In the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary? Take a breath, a step back, and look again.

I’m triggered? This is news to me.

Sounds like you’re the one triggered my snowflake friend.
