Vols hold players only meeting

Oh man, a players only meeting two games in! Intense!

"Yall think we something because we have won two games? Man, we ain't nothing yall!"
Wonder if Joe gave then the "I don't lose in Florida" speech? I bet they have that posted in the Locker room this week. Hopefully, it holds true.

Karma, bvs, etc. setting in on me boys.....

When I played baseball for Belmont in the 90s, we had a players only meeting after a few tough games and lackluster performances. We subsequently came out the next day and beat our opponent 22 to 1. These things can be very positive.
My junior year of high school, we had a player’s only meeting in basketball and won something like 11 games in a row and ended up having one of the highest win totals in the school’s history 🤷‍♂️

Listening to a segment by Dave Hooker this morning, they discussed that the football program held a players only meeting on Sunday that was spearheaded by the leadership on the team.

Apparently JM3 took responsibility for the dropped passes in a positive light, no pointing fingers, and all players have agreed its time to amp it up to a whole new level, as they admitted this past week was pretty laid back.

Hopefully this refocuses the team and they get back to keeping their heads on straight. I do believe this is a positive and shows the true leadership the team possesses.
Players only meetings are a cause for great concern! It says the locker room is not happy and spells trouble especially just after the season starts.

Sounds like a complete opposite meeting of what happened before South Carolina last year (if any of that was true) This team has all the talent In the world. Can't wait to see if they can put it together
Its true, but that was a defense only meeting held in a blunt hazed apartment filled with Steele Reserve and rap snacks; breeding ground for great ideas.

If reports are true about Milton's comments, I can see why it created some friction with his receivers especially if he's a bit off with his accuracy like he was saturday. Time will tell if his mea culpa will heal things. I'm sure he's feeling some pressure after his last outing. Combine that with his comments about not losing in Florida, and I expect Milton is feeling a considerable amount of pressure going into this one. Heupel and co will have a helluva time keeping things light and trying to keep Milton from being too worked up going into this one. Hope he can handle this pressure and this stage well. Feel for the guy. Games like this are supposed to be fun. Having all this additional chit to deal with just stinks.
What’s the reports about Milton’s comments?

Really? Doubt that...

It shows we have true leaders who the entire team looks to...otherwise they would not have come.

It shows recognition that we are better than how we have played.

It should responsibility...players not pointing fingers at others, but pointing to themselves

This type of culture is something we have missed over the past couple of decades. Leadership, recognition, responsibility....

Now if they come out and lay an egg vs. Florida, then let's all just ignore this post. But my current standing is that this was a real positive for the team.

My freshman year, a couple of seniors called a players only meeting.
Several guys quit the team and we went on to win 1 of our remaining 8 games to finish the year 1-9...

If they admitted to having a “laid back week”, that’s a pretty good background for what we saw Saturday. Complete lack of focus. I’ll bet this week in practice is anything but “laid back”.

There is an article on Off the Hook Sports site and it said Milton put all the blame on himself for the bad passing day. They just talked about everybody getting back on the same page and focusing. A good smart leader takes the blame sometime even when they are not totally responsible. Keeps the peace.

I know the negative posters that want to believe there is massive discontent on the team will not like this but seems that is not the case at all.

watched a TON of Belmont baseball games, but about 20 or so years before you arrived. Did you play on the on campus field or had they moved it already? I could get to thefield in less than 30 seconds from my Hail (sp?) Hall dorm room. 45 if I stopped to buy a coke on the way out the door. Part of my low budget entertainment plan that also included weekend late night visits to night court downtown, which was way more entertaining than the TV show years later. Free was important.

Night court was awesome - we did that too.

I played at the Sounds stadium, not on campus

Milton has to start using his legs to be effective. He's just not accurate enough as a passer.

It's worked for many, many players prior to him, and it's our best shot at going far this year.

The old field was a hoot... no fences, unless you counted the one in left field left over from the days it was a horse pasture. I saw a player twice in the same game hit two balls that had to go close to 500 ft in total is center field get thrown out both times at the plate.

One pitcher made it to MLB for a short stay with the Mets, Dwight Bernard. We featured a one handed first baseman too, amazing to w atch at the plate and in the field. Some epic battles with Lipscomb and Vandy back then. One year our Bernard, one pitcher from Lipscomp, Bo something I think, and two Vandy pitchers all made it to the bigs. Fun stuff.

Don’t agree that he is not accurate enough, DO agree he need to run more. He needs to actually read the potential tacklers on the 3rd or 4th and 1 plays. I think when he runs it puts him IN the game more and gets the competitive juices flowing.
He also has to unleash his arm for a few deep ones…the d will be right on top of our receivers if we only throw 5 yard passes.
