i think putin would decline, babble about trying to join NATO in the past and the mean americans turned him down.I think it's a horrible idea and would actually work against US interests from multiple angles.
Would NATO go along?
Would Russia value that enough to give up what they have?
NATO is on it's way down. It already has allies in emerging markets. That's the short game isn't it?
It's just laughable that they are trying to claim that the USSR created anything in regards to the nation's that came out of it.
The USSR was a clamp that suppressed many different nations, nationalities, ethnicities, and more under one umbrella. Removing that clamp didn't "create" anything.
NATO will do what we tell them to do, what choices do they have?
For Russia they would get guaranteed security and allies against China and one day China is going to take back the parts of Russia they believe is theirs.
Offer Putin this option, a complete withdrawal from Ukraine including Crimea in exchange for NATO membership. This guarantees Russian sovereignty and security which Putin has stated as a goal of his war.
Because one day China is going to ram it up their tails.
It would make NATO significantly more powerful. But I don't think NATO is going to welcome Russia, and I don't think Russia is going to give up it's sights on former satellites or at least gaining pieces of them. If they join NATO you almost have to welcome the other further satellites to buffer Russian neighbors who are skeptical..........a lot of political hot pieces to navigate there.NATO will do what we tell them to do, what choices do they have?

Too bad their own government ignored them, egged on by the grift lobby. We’ll handle our own business.half-ukrainians-quick-negotiated-end-war.aspx

Half of Ukrainians Want Quick, Negotiated End to War
Ukrainians are growing increasingly weary of the war with Russia. Gallup's latest surveys of Ukraine show 52% would like to see the war end as soon as possible.news.gallup.com

If this is a Gallup ploy to create a demand to include them in our deal, too late, they’ve already been consulted.
Tactical nuclear weapons is a death warrant for humanity. Everyone knows, even tactical nuclear weapons all but ensures MAD.Doubt. They're called tactical nuclear weapons. Everyone knows this, as does the U.S. See Congressional Record from the 90s.... that is why they (neocons, cia) did mission creep i.e. pawns.
There is no real easy off-ramp to this.... the neocons did a number. Russia and the U.S. are sitting around talking but there is no solution. They could kill the midget and the Ukrainians could unconditional surrender... .if I was Russia I would accept and tell them to all go to Poland. Nobody wants the responsibility and the bill that is Western Ukraine.
We'll see, but that is why there really isn't any proposal out even after years. Lots of people still probably need to go.
