War in Ukraine

Because that would be letting Russia decide another country’s sovereignty. Russia won’t even let them join the EU or have a government that isn’t pro Russia. Ridiculous.

I suspect you’ll try to counter with whataboutism, so I’ll just say that isn’t a valid argument.
The United States has done what they are accusing Russia of several times in the past, so your reasoning is flawed.

I think Putin probably realizes Ukraine is a lost cause but doesn't want to be humiliated so he will keep some semblance of a force there to attempt some kind of a salvage of the campaign. I think that is why you are seeing limited fighting in a country that size. It was a political miscalculation on his part

As I said last night in a different post, the Russians have not cleared the skies. Unfortunately, pure attrition of pilots is going to set in.

What is most disconcerting to me is the 17 mile long convoy approaching Kiev. If you tried that against the US that would be 17 miles of dead bodies. (See Desert Storm, Iraqi retreat from Kuwait.) But I'm not hearing any reports about heavy casualties there. It's not just the regular air force but I would have expected a lot of drone attacks. The Russians are probably keeping a secure airspace over the convoy with massive 24/7 combat air patrols. That would absorb much of their fighter power that will later be cut loose against the Ukrainians.

I hate having to be realistic that Russia will inevitably win, but it's going to cost them and they're not going to like what they won.

So you're basically saying what I've been saying since winter of 2013/2014. The EU is too dysfunctional for them to gain anything by joining it. Their best bet would be independent and/or look eastward. The future is in Asia...
No - independent in terms of not being in a political union with them, but extensive economic ties. Basically just like the UK. A lot of Europeans have this false notion that you are "isolated" or "not part of Europe" if you aren't formally a member of the EU. It's BS. Ukraine should be working like mad to sign every deal they can with European countries, but they don't have to be a member of the EU.

Yeah its weird after seeing years of the "seemingly standard" process of
1. own the skies,
2. tactical bombing until there are no visible military targets left
3. drones supporting heavy armor to punch forward to a defendable space, followed closely by
4. drones supporting infantry to secure some sort of temporary firebase/FOB and establish comms and area control with artillery
5. secure your backward supply line and logistic chain
6. repeat steps 3-5

it's hard to figure out what the hell the Russians are doing. You have infantry without armor support. They have drones but it doesnt seem they are using them effectively. I am no military tactician but it seems like a real cluster, even though they have a far superior force and the overall strategic plan seemed ok. Not that our own military doesnt have a ton of problems but they always have had a (rightful) focus on logistics so that even a small group of warfighters can have magnified effectiveness. I guess it is easy to take basic competence for granted after our country was basically at war in 2 theaters for almost 20 years.

Just like his prewar demands of NATO going back to 1997 borders these peace demands are just as unrealistic.

It's a crazy abusive relationship. Ukraine "made" Russia invade them. Its Ukraines fault Russia had to get aggressive.

Neutral Ukraine exists. Russia invades neutral Ukraine. Ukraine becomes not neutral, Russia does the Pickachu face.

I mean come on. You cant invade some one, and then expect them to be neutral and demilitarized.

Basically, you're seeing what equals a lie about Russia being America's greatest threat. It should've been easy to see as they are just too poor as a country. When you hear a politician claim this and not say truthfully that China is our greatest threat, they are stupid or they're lying.
