Ukraine will never accept Russian rule.

Plus I think the sanctions will crack Russia.

Russia are solid stock, they aren't fragile. They've suffered long and hard before. They soldier through it. The meat on these sanctions won't remain long enough to crack them.

They may very well have awakened a people that could remain thorns in their sides for decades to come. If enough of these territories ban together they could rise up and dictate to Russia. That is the best long term scenario for it's relationship with the west.
