War in Ukraine

I have had VN opened on my PC at my desk for 9 years now. Work and post at the same time.
I also have this cool new gadget that you can carry in your pocket and be connected to the internet whenever you like. It's super-handy, and it makes calls and sends emails, too. Y'all should check them out; nearly anyone could post from work!

That was perfect until we decided to put them all on the public dole.

Even then they were vetted..not fence jumpers. I am rather angry that one thinks they can just jump the fence and ignore our own laws. Illegality with the first step onto our soil. Not to mention the lack of fairness with legals that go thru the process.

Ukrainian Girl, 7, is Killed after Russians Shell School with 'cluster bomb' while Her Hero Grandfather Desperately Tried to Shield Her From the Blast

A seven-year-old girl was killed during a 'cluster bomb' strike on a school in Ukraine as her grandfather desperately tried to shield her from the blast.

Yesterday Ukrainian President Zelensky's wife Olena said Putin's troops were 'consciously and cynically' killing children.

She highlighted the case of Alisa Hlans, 7, who was one of six people to die when her kindergarten in Okhtyrka was hit on the second day of the Russian invasion.

Pictures of the aftermath of the attack showed bodies strewn around the entrance as the staff tried to flee with the children.

Alisa's grandfather was reportedly killed in front of his granddaughter before she was wounded and rushed to hospital, where she died a day later.

Prosecutor general Irina Venediktova said Alisa, who was three months away from her eighth birthday, died in hospital the day after the attack in the small town of Okhtyrka, an hour’s drive from Ukraine’s north-east border.

They did a wonderful job of undermining themselves.

Yep, and the press started undermining themselves long ago. I think the first real indications, the first ones that really made me start doubting the press were Walter Cronkite vs what really happened during Tet and Watergate coverage vs some things that came to light later; and the press have become more dishonest since - seemingly on an exponential curve at that.

I read Bernie Goldbergs book decades ago. I remember the press denying his premise at the time. Kinda like Bernie Sanders denying he was a socialist until it became politically expedient.

When another country defaults on its debt, what are you going to do about it? Even if it is a lesson learned event, you know it still will happen again ... maybe the same place ... maybe somewhere else. The Chinese are slick, though; they just demand a pound of flesh ... or a nice chunk of land for a base.

That gets back to a thought I had earlier today. Suppose there was nuclear war that began between the US and Russia. It seems like both of us having more than enough missiles to destroy the world, would decide to chunk a few at China to make sure China didn't evolve as the sole world superpower. That kinda covers the northern hemisphere; so do S American and African countries become the new world powers? Is it that kind of thinking that's driving Chinese interests below the belt so to speak? And what of Australia and New Zealand.

We have more honesty and integrity in many of our news sources than most every other country on the planet.

You mean it's OK if the press lie and push the party line on their own, but it's really bad if a Ministry of Propaganda directs the message?

No. I mean our news sources offer more truth than any others. We just aren't very good at separating truth from fiction.
Stated another way, it would be easier to find the truth in our country than in almost any other.

That I agree with, but our media don't even try to find the truth. To me that's worse than say Pravda parading out what they are told to say. Our media have a choice and they often choose to lie.

I simply do not see it the same way. There are plenty of true journalists still reporting and outlets intent on getting the truth out.
We also have more sickening propaganda and blatant false reporting that ever.
And finally, we have a public that is more than ever less able to distinguish between the two.

No, we used them to suck up sludge out of tanks. Now, where they dumped said sludge could be a delicacy for some animals, but that's out of my wheelhouse and I'd have to defer to hog88 for that.

Are you saying hog finds sludge a delicacy?
