We are behind on this current class....

and everyone knew he was a snake from day 1 but he was our snake at the time. All the more reason to have locked his sorry ass out of UT and mailed his personal belongings to USC. I would have also dropped a deuce in the box before sealing it up but that's just me

This is good point. Same concept with the buyout. We knew we weren't at the top of his list.

We hadn't even evaluated him before he came down. So, we didn't know anything about him at all. You have to start the evaluation process in recruiting before you form an opinion about how much communication you start involving with certain prospects.

Well, whose fault is that?

Well, whose fault is that?

No one's. We just hadn't got to look at his film yet or anything like that. It's no one's fault. These coaches aren't going to always know about all the 6,000+ prospects that are all vying for a scholarship somewhere, and that includes who is perceived to be higher rated.

I agree, but I understand the frustration level.

I think our frustration level with all this crap is just ramping up. We've got a ways to go before the cap blows off.

Someday, though, we'll get our program back and the revenge we inflict for the arse whoppings we've still got coming will be so much sweeter.

I'm just anxious to get through this stage.

True, but there are those who don't understand what we are going through. Those "whistle blowers" as I think of them as, don't understand that you go through tough times as much as you go through great times. They just want the great times and get pissy when they don't see success on a daily basis.

If I knew that Kiffin was interested in a kid and he was interested in UT, I would be looking up his film and information if I was Dooley. There's no way that Chaney hadn't heard of him. He's getting offers from a lot of schools. I agree in the vast majority of cases, but this kid isn't some random OL out in Arizona or something.

True.

The time tables lend themselves to the excuses in the article. Kiffin also mentioned being behind the 8 ball more than once.

The kid did his part by calling the recruiting office. I'm not going to make a mountain out of a mole hill, but this was clearly a mistake that shouldn't happen again...even on a fall back guy. It gives plenty of ammo for those that believe DD is in over his head.

The fanbase was sold on DD high organizational skills. Perhaps the recruiting office needs some Ritalin.

Great points Lex.

Yet, they are recruiting Cyrus Hobbi hard, and he's that random OL out in Arizona. Good try though.

Irrelevent! The point is that everybody wants to blame Dooley for a prospect not being able to get into the O&W game, when Dooley probably had no idea that the kid was coming or even who he was.

By your logic, I could have just called the Athletics Dept., told them I was a high school coach and that I had a prospect coming down. Then went as the prospect and got into the game for free?

Dooley is directing the ship.

Ha wasn't trying for that. My final point on this whole deal is that Dooley should've known about it. He didn't. He screwed up (or his staff did). It's not the end of the world, but I just don't like the "still getting organized" comments and excuses. If you screwed up, just say it. I don't need a reason or an excuse about something that happened 3 months ago.

Yet, this is all akin to trying to blame the CEO of a company like Wal-Mart, for not knowing you were interesting in shopping there. Dooley didn't know about it because WE HADN'T EVALUATED HIM YET. How hard is that to understand??

You apparently don't manage or run a business.... I have 15 employees under me and man how I wish they were always doing the right things and never making mistakes! My life would be soooo much easier!

Your the one everyone always blames though, even though you had zilch to do with it. Welcome to Derek Dooley's world I guess. :)

And, again, we should've evaluated him then... especially since he's an OL, and I'm guessing Kiffin/Chaney/Cregg were interested in him.

_eric, that was my point way back in this conversation...

It's hard trying to work and type a well thought out post on here....

I'm going to excuse myself from this converstation, as it seems you have it under control. Now I can go work and be sure not to make mistakes so my customers don't think I have dropped the ball on something.... (That sounds oddly familiar...) Later....

We'll need a team like the 1985 Vols to get out this rut. A team that plays with so much heart and tenacity that they can beat more talented and even better coached teams.

It's an emotional commitment akin to the one I saw so many of our current players show last season (Hardesty would be the guy I'd point to first). There's nothing more fun than watching a Vols team play with such pride. There also can't be much more fun than feeling the love of Vol Nation for any player on such a team.

Here, here, to the '85 Vols and to their resurrection in this millennium!

After reading that article, it really does sound like someone dropped the ball on UT's end. Someone in the Recruiting Office most likely, but the coaches have to make sure all the cogs on the wheel work. I was wrong on this one.

Yeah, if the way the people acted on campus doesn't tell you what Kiffin thought about UT, then nothing will. Your just a troll anyways, so I don't expect you to know anything about my favorite school without visiting Google anyways. Off to ignore with you.

Huh?
I'm a Tennessee fan.
Wow. You're real objective.

Facepalm.....

Look, you can't have everyone ALWAYS evaluated as a coach. Also, by the way Trip describes it, his coach calling here was the FIRST of any communication between the parties. I'm sorry it doesn't work like you think it does.

The coaches shouldn't still be so far behind that they don't know this kid though. They don't have someone at least reading Rivals?

Hard to drop the ball when you have nothing on the prospect because you haven't evaluated him. From everything I can tell now, his coaches phone call was the first communication of any kind to UT's Recruiting Office.

Not disagreeing with you that you can't evaluate everyone. Never have I said that. But, this was a kid that had major ties to UT and who the previous staff (2 of which are still on staff) knew about and liked. They dropped the ball here. Again, I don't think it's an awful deal, but they did drop the ball.

You are always evaluating guys though, you know this. It's not like you can tell anything about a prospect as a coach going through Rivals. The coaches can't be at fault for someone they haven't evaluated, plain and simple.
