We are behind on this current class....

Hard to drop the ball when you have nothing on the prospect because you haven't evaluated him. From everything I can tell now, his coaches phone call was the first communication of any kind to UT's Recruiting Office.

This is pretty stupid, Eric. If they have nothing on the prospect at this point then they're doing something wrong. Florida knows about him. You'd think that alone would force them to look at him.

I have to admit, there are some concerns right now.

Not disagreeing with you that you can't evaluate everyone. Never have I said that. But, this was a kid that had major ties to UT and who the previous staff (2 of which are still on staff) knew about and liked. They dropped the ball here. Again, I don't think it's an awful deal, but they did drop the ball.

Dude, there was NO past communication with this kid, other than the phone call his HS coach made to the office letting them know he was coming down. That's all the communication they had.

I'm sure that we know about certain prospects that Florida doesn't, and vice versa. You also can't be forced to recruit kids just because another team is, that's asinine, even though he maybe talented. Your always going to chase your tail if you do that.

You're not making any sense.

The kid's first communication came when his coach told our office he was coming down for the O&W game. They had no info on him, and it doesn't seem that his HS coach did a very good job of relaying that info either. Something between his HS coach and our office is the issue here, and we probably will never know the true issue either. I'm moving on, because the kid didn't strike us off his list because of this.

How is it asinine to take a closer look at a player that another school offered that has a history being good at evaluating players? It happens everywhere. You're still not making sense.

After that article, there is really no other way to dice it. The coaches have to get things organized and get in gear. Everyone else is.

That's all I have to say on this matter.

But if they're getting looks from places like that, you have to at least know enough about them to know whether it's worth throwing your hat into the ring. If they didn't, then that's on the staff. I, however, am still chalking it up as an error by non-football people in the recruiting office. It won't scare me unless it happens again.

Kiffin was recruiting the kid. Therefore, Chaney and Thompson knew about him. He's an OL (a position of need). There's no reason for Dooley to not know stuff about him. That's just ridiculous.

If your taking your recruiting board and basing it off another team's board, whether the other team is successful or not, you SUCK as a recruiting coordinator. That's pretty simple, because it's your job to evaluate guys based on what your coaching staff thinks about a prospect, and not what another staff thinks. It took Florida HOW LONG to offer Michael Taylor, and HOW LONG was he committed to us??

Prove that to me, and I'll admit everything I said was wrong.

Go back and read the freaking article you posted genius. Good grief... again, HOW did you get your title on this forum???

Thurman, who had been recruited by UT under former coach Lane Kiffin, planned to visit Knoxville and take part in the spring finale festivities with the other 50 or so prospects on campus.

I don't get the bolded piece. Are you saying Florida sucks at recruiting?

You're shifting the discussion. You don't have to rate someone highly because other staffs do. But you need to know who they are for your own evaluations.

I didn't see that, but that proves more than not, that Kiffin took all his info with him and didn't leave any for Dooley and Co. to go off of. So, if they DID have something on him as a staff, then I would be more in the camp of someone screwed up, but it's not entirely DD's fault at this point. If it was October and the kid was coming down for an official and this happened, sure it's on Dooley 100%. This is spring, not the fall.

You're like a broken record man. It all goes back to Kiffin... Kiffin, Kiffin, Kiffin. I'm guessing that Kiffin has some kind of device that wipes people's names from someone's memory as well?? Surely that's why Chaney and Thompson wouldn't have brought him up in discussions. I'm done.

Oh, wow. How about the part where you were going to admit everything you said was wrong?

Eric, you are going off the deep end and I can't follow you.

We knew about him back in November. Being that O always had someone scanning the Rivals boards, so did they. Really not hard to comprehend.

Yeah, and O took all his info with him and so did Kiffin. So, I can accept the information department lacking somewhat on this classes prospects.

All I am saying, is that between all the crap we have went through as a program, that for just ONE prospect that we know of to have had something happen to them of this nature, is pretty damn good. Now, if dozens of recruits would say the same thing about showing up and being treated like that, then I would be VERY skeptical of Dooley and Co, at that point. This incident isn't even going to hurt us with this guy, so there is no problem at this point. If it happens many more times, sure there is a problem.

Maybe you can, but to everyone else it's not acceptable. Chaney and Thompson are still here. And the recruiting office said point blank that they knew about the guy! You can't get around that. You're just going in circles, Eric.

That's all well and good, but why can't you just say that WE screwed up, it was our own fault, but that it's not the sort of incident that's indicative of a trend? Because, barring further information, that seems to be the most sensible conclusion.

Once ESPN got a hold of it...that was all she wrote. It was a recruiting error. Unfortunately we can't afford too many of those. I can't understand why it is so hard to admit it was a mistake and move on.
