Where do we go from here, and does this loss effect recruiting?? (Merged)

Imo...no way Meline plays corner...maybe safety. And if somehow he does get switched to corner...take atleast a year + to get him game ready.

You may be right. I was just speculating based on his size. He has time to grow but he is 6'2 170. He is plenty tall but that's really small for safety. He runs a 4.4. I thought he played corner in high school. I just know Cobbs wouldn't play corner if he moved to the defense and Riley is all but committed. So you may very well be right but I was just trying to put two and two together with what we know about him and the current situation.

With 7 left... I want 7 OL's. Preferrably 3 or 4 that will be ready to contribute next fall.

I don't think anyone really knows where he will end up, i just think his speed is more down-hill, not lateral with good hips (like a cb needs). But we will see next year...i am really high on this kid though...i think he ends up being the 2nd best wr in this class (thats including cobbs).

and as far as our 7 left...as long as we grab some OL...this is going to be a great class. Someone mentioned earlier about Cullen not being an ee....is that true?

And I still think we need to get a DT...Quarles would be nice to go along with our D line commits.

Ive heard of a few names like Fulton and Stone but what are the chances we are gonna get some of these kids that can contribute from day 1? Btw anyone have a word on a second qb like Newton or anything?

You are looking for the recruiting forum.

The chances are 90% we get JaWuan James, and about 80% we get a JUCO named Cullen.

We are in the top 2 for TJ Leifheit, it is us or NC. Most people think Butch Davis wins this battle.

We are in the top 2 or 3 for Damien Robinson and James Stone and may actually lead for both.

We will end up with 3 of these guys above, and maybe 4 (which would mean Pair "decommits" and goes to SC).

Do not worry about the OL.

This coaching staff will end up with the number 1 class. I detail why on the recruiting forum, but basically it is because they are all freaking rock stars and they sold the heck out of Purdue and Auburn and Ole Miss and now they have a real program to sell plus the greatest defensive coordinator in the last 15 years of football as well as an offensive staff that is basically all NFL coaches.

Here's a breakdown of the recruits I think are on the coaches' board to fill out our last 7 spots. I've only included ones I think we have a realistic shot at. Please suggest add ons or edits.

Offensive Line - The only glaring need left for the 2010 class. Including the guys who have verballed, we will only have 12 OL on scholarship next year. I think we will try to get 3-5 of these guys:

Cameron Clemmons (fall-back option)
Chuck Curry
John Cullen
Roszell Gayden
Davlin Glass
Jawuan James
Darius Kilgo (fall-back option)
Arie Kouandjio
T.J. Leifheit
Morgan Moses (currently committed to UVA)
Damien Robinson
James Stone

Defensive Back - We are already fairly loaded at DB but there is alot of serious talent left on the board with legitimate interest. I think we'll end up with 1-2 of these guys:

Christian Bryant
Desmond Brown (currently commited to Clemson)
Demar Dorsey (currently committed to UF)
Toney Hurd, Jr.
Terrence Mitchell
Keion Payne
Cody Riggs
Dietrich Riley
Joshua Shaw
Dale Trimble
Demetrius Wright

Defensive Tackle - Our DE class has filled out nicely but I think we are still a little less talented at DT than Orge would like. Plus there are a lot of solid recruits that have strong interest in UT. Note that some of these guys are listed as DEs on Rivals but I think they are likely being recruited as DTs. We might not sign another DT but I have a hard time imagining us not getting 1 of these guys:

Dominique Easley
J.R. Ferguson
Fre'Shad Hunter
Gabe King
Kelcy Quarles (currently committed to USC)
Calvin Smith
Jeffrey Whitaker

Running Back - The staff has said they would like to get at least one RB every year. Since we are obviously deep at RB already, there are only a few guys left that we would take commitments from:

Giovanni Bernard
Michael Dyer (and thus TE Dakota Mosley)
Jakhari Gore

Linebacker - We will be very deep here next year, only losing Rico, but I think the staff is looking for a little more star power at this position. Only a few guys are left that have the talent worthy of 1 of the 7 remaining spots:

Christian Jones
Jeff Luc
Josh Shirley

If we are able to get 8-9 of these guys, I think the coaching staff would ask Broussard and/or Ralph Williams to look elsewhere.

Don't we have 8 more spots to fill? 22 players signed letters of intent last year. James Green went to JC so we only used 21 of our allotted 25 scholarships. That leaves us 4 players to back-count and 29 scholarships available for this year's class. 29 - 21 = 8.

We also have a lot of early enrollees who won't be signing a LOI, so the overall size of this year's class could potentially exceed 30 without breaking the 28 LOI rule – at least that's my understanding.

We need some guys that can come right in and play whether that means juco or freshmen. Its a absolute must.

The only thing I disagree with you about is Broussard. He is a very solid player and O is big on him. He may decommit or not make it in because of grades, but we keep him if we can. I think we do lose 2 of our committed players though...

Do you have two specifically in mind, or just expect a little attrition in general?

I have about 4 in mind that I wouldn't be surprised if they left: Pair, Meline, Broussard, and Copeland. I guess you could call it natural attrition. When it gets time to sign on the dotted line, they might find out UT may not be the best place for them...

Pair- When we start loading up with 3 or 4 more big time OL, how's he gonna feel about his chances of getting playing time? If another school (USCjr, Clemson, etc.) comes calling, I think he may be gone...

Meline- No matter if he plays WR or safety, that depth chart isn't looking good for him. He will be with Nuke, Teague, Rogers, Ambles, Milton, and Cobbs at WR. He has Myles, Janzen, Waggner, Wilkes, and probably either Riley or Wright with him safety. He is a soft verbal at this point anyways, he has made it clear he's taking all his visits. He may feel Oregon or Clemson will give him the best chance to get on the field. And if UGA ever gets back in it with him, he is gone in a heartbeat. Looking at his grades, most think it will be a longshot for him to make it in a college in the fall...

Broussard- Alot of people feel that if LSU offers, he is most likely going to end up a Tiger. And right now with his grades, it looks like it will about be impossible for him to make it into a college in the fall...

Copeland- I think the staff holds onto Copeland, but I wouldn't be surprised if he left. No matter if he plays DE or DT, he may feel that it will be hard for him to see the field at UT especially if we make a play on others on the DL like Quarles. It doesn't look like there are any other serious players for him right now, and he sounds very solid to UT. But you never know. I'm really big on Copeland so I hope we can hold onto him...

I may be completely wrong and we may hold onto all of them. It just seems like every school loses 2 or 3 commits every year...

Did we get dropped from UKO's list? I think we are still a finalist so please add him to the DT.

I still have heard we are finalist for Dunkley, would you take him to add to the class if he wanted to come?

With Monte's scheme he has usually had one heavy run stuffing DT but both are heavy on pass rushing. Would you want to move guys like Willis, and possibly Copeland inside and pick up a Powell (obviously), Lemonier, or even a Christian Jones who could put his hand down on the outside.

Also do you see this staff wanting to take kids and move them from LB to DE, like the previous staff did?

Also I do not understand why we think people think it will be hard for a certain player to see the field. That specifici mentality if why people are coming here. When a Coach walks into your house and says you have an opportunity to play like any other person, then it is not a starting spot you want. Just an opportunity to play. Any kid who comes to UT will not sit the bench if he can rush the passer on 3rd downs, or is a run stuffer for 1st down or 2nd and short. Don't look at a guys stars or rating and look at his game film. Copeland is an absolute monster, and if the coaching staff want him to come in then he will. They evaluated him on film and at Camp with their own eyes. He wasn't a throw in so we could get recruits.

Yes, Uko dropped us. He is down to USC and Cal...

Yes, you take Dunkley. He is an elite talent. We aren't in a position to turn kids of his caliber away yet...

Well, if Lemonier, Powell, or Jones wants to come to UT, we will make a spot for them. Alot of people believe Copeland and Willis will move to the 3 technique DT, but we are pretty set at DE. Jacques and Miller are 2 of the best pass rushers off the edge in this class. Delvin Jones Jones and Bruce Irvin could end up at DE as well...

Yes, this year they moved Chris Donald and Gerald Williams from LB to DE. They will move the players to their best position. That's why Irvin and Jones might end up as DE when it's all said and done...

I believe you misunderstood me. This staff will give every player a fair shot to see the field. What I'm saying is, does that player actually like their chance of getting on the field? That's why we don't have a RB in this class yet. Not too many people are enthusiastic about going up against Bryce and Oku for playing time. I don't care about star ratings one bit, but the players might when they are looking at recruits who will be their competition for playing time. It's hard to imagine what all is probably going through these guys heads when it gets time to actually sign on the dotted line. This is the next 3-5 years of their life, they don't want to make the wrong decision...

No way they let Broussard go and I highly doubt they will let Ralph Williams go. Orgeron loves Broussard.

As for fall back options, Chuck Curry is also a big fall back option. He is not a take at this point in time and probably wont be.

Also I dont see anyway Bruce Irvin doesn't play outside linebacker next year.

True - but not every recruit signs a LOI. And any recruit who has enrolled in school without ever having signed one is still eligible to receive a scholarship. If you're attending school in January it makes no sense to sign a letter which states your intent to enroll there in August. We have 28 letters and 29 scholarships to give.

Playing as a true freshman out of HS is almost impossible at OL. Leifheit is a December enrollee as well as some of current OL guys like Jose Jose.

Morgan Moses wanted to be at UVA but we may get him after he spent a year at Prep school.

Cullen looks like he could contribute immediately.

D Robinson and JaWuan James and James Stone are all talents like we used to have back in the Cosey Coleman era. They may not start as freshman, but they will provide depth and they will be very good very quickly.

The staff loves Fulton, a 3* who will move up to 4* by seasons end. He looked much better than Stone in camp.

I think we are allowed to backcount scholly's from last season because we only signed 22 players. We can sign up to 31 this year as long as we do not exceed the maximum 85 scholarships. JUCO and Early Enrollees can be backcounted. This is my understanding but I am no expert on this subject.

LordVader, Meline doesn't have grade issues he can graduate early if he chooses to. Tennessee needs to put the heat on CB Lamarcus Joyner.

I had always heard his grades were in question especially with him being at 3 schools in 4 years. I hope I am wrong...
