Who Has Their Carry A Concealed Weapon Permit?

When I took the class to get my permit, it was scary to see some of the people that were there to get their permit. Out of the 30 or 40 people, there was only about 4 or 5 of us that should've been carrying a gun. The rest of the group shouldn't have been allowed to hold a gun, much less own/carry one.

Can't have it both ways. Second amendment is for everyone.

What criteria were you going by as far as who you felt should be allowed to defend themselves and who should not?

Not saying they shouldn't be allowed to defend themselves, but I think you should have to have a basic knowledge of firearms/firearm safety before carrying a loaded gun. I guess my comment came across the wrong way.

so last night at about 2 a.m the wife and I were in our bed asleep when we heard a crash in our living room and some running. We jumped up and locked the door in our bedroom and called the police. While she was on the phone with the police I got a shotgun out and laid down behind the bed pointing a gun at the door. We told the police be sure to let us know when you guys are coming cause "if that doorknob or door moves I am shooting" good quote from last night...

Wow! So... Did they catch the person(s)? Did you shoot the person? Was anything stolen?

Probably partly me also. I am (understandably) hyper-sensitive about Constitutional issues lately...

So just a broken window, or what?

You should get a dog.

I have a dog. We think that is partly what scared the person off. Nothing was broken they tripped over a boxfan that was in the living room.

The police were awesome. They got there so fast and were running around the house and stuff.

Wow.... glad y'all are safe. Shotgun is always a solid choice for home defense, not much chance in a round penetrating the intended target and continuing on into a neighbor's house, plus, the sound of you racking a shell into the firing chamber should be enough to cause a perp to reconsider his course of action.

(Might I suggest a few dogs for a home alarm system?) Edit: I see you have a dog already.... I have six, not likely someone gets in the house w/out some barking to wake me up... and our GSDs are security trained, so they would engage the intruder while I train my weapon on them.

There was a lady that had an issue with keeping the gun down range. Thought the instructor was going to tackle her if she did it one more time.

Cool, good to hear.

Dogs are great to have in that situation. I don't know why criminals are so afraid of dogs. It's practically supernatural. They don't even have to be big.

Yeah, it is a 20 gauge pump shotgun. I had taken the plug out not to long ago so I was able to put 5 shells in it.

I pumped it one good time to make sure it could be heard.

We have a tenant in the basement of our house. He slept through everything until the police knocked on his door...

It's the bark, man. Thing can be an ankle biter, but to a perp they know it's going to wake everyone up.

I will say my house was broken into once with me there. There's nothing like being dead asleep and awaken to a sound of someone breaking in and that shot of adrenaline.

I don't have a concealed permit but I went to the range with a buddy who does. I'm really a rifle/shotgun guy but after shooting he looked over and said I handle a gun better than 90% of the people in his class who actually pass. Gun safety is gun safety.

The instructor for our class said that he had to send someone home from a class the previous week when they used a loaded gun to scratch the side of their head while they were at the range waiting to shoot. He said they didn't it casually, as if they were holding a pencil.

We had a woman that used her gun to motion for the instructor because she had a question. Also, had a guy that kept asking questions about whether or not he could carry a gun if he had been drinking. He kept trying to think of a situation where he would be allowed to carry a gun and drink. He went on a rant about stupid laws when the instructor told him that he couldn't drink and carry a gun.

Okay, I'm with you. The instructor should instantly dismiss folks like that from the class. Maybe losing their class fee and having to wait for a period of time and pay for another class might inspire them to take things more seriously.

Everyone in the class I attended was very responsible in their gun handling.

I don't have one, yet. But as soon as I turn 21 I'm getting one.

That and a big bottle of whiskey. That night probably won't end well......

If you've got whiskey on the mind, you should put guns out of your mind, unless you just want to die young.

Of course, I'm pretty sure you're just joking... :ermm:
