Who Has Their Carry A Concealed Weapon Permit?

Well, first off if I shot at the guy, it would only be if he forced me to, and then I would hit him in a leg. I can shoot that well. If it is immoral to stand up to punks like him, then call me immoral. I have no problem with it.
I had a customer once who was cleaning his gun and somehow discharged a round into his leg. It hit his femoral artery and he bled out before his wife could summon help.

Not anti-carry, but you are apparently wrong about it being laughable. Broyles carries and made statements to that very effect.

Just to be clear, I'm saying I think it's laughable to say that people who carry should give a warning shot or shoot for a leg. If one chooses to, well, he's only opening up himself for a lot of problems. For the average person the pressure and stress of the situation is going to have an effect on their accuracy. More than likely they've never been in that sort of situation. Center mass is what should be aimed for. Not neccesarily because it could be the most lethal, just because it's the easiest part to hit and has the best chance of neautralizing the threat.

I'd have a hard time justifying shooting someone who was unarmed and fleeing. In fact, I wouldn't.

I don't have a concealed permit but I went to the range with a buddy who does. I'm really a rifle/shotgun guy but after shooting he looked over and said I handle a gun better than 90% of the people in his class who actually pass. Gun safety is gun safety.

I wonder where you learned how to do that PJ...:)

Glock 22C with night sights.

My other fave is my Ruger 10-22 heavy barrel with scope and Silencer. Notice to squirrels and chipmunks in my neighborhood........I'm a Bad Man

Where did I say I carry a weapon? I only keep them in the house. If anyone has a problem with my actions, well just stay away from my hill. We have had numerous break-ins around us, some while people were home. I will not be a helpless victim. I am not a violent person, but you don't mess with my family.

Here is where there seems to be a disconnect. I'm 100% behind you concerning the boldened statement. In fact, now that TN is a Castle Doctrine state the law is more on your side now too.

What you don't seem to understand in regards to the incident you mentioned is that in the circumstances you describe you basically jettisoned all your legal protections under any aspect of "self defense". In fact, if some prosecuter wanted to really make an issue of it, you'd be having to defend yourself for unlawful carry (I'm under the impression you don't have a permit, I could be wrong) for running around outside your home with a loaded gun and if you pointed the gun even remotely at the guy assault.

You simply must grasp that once the guy took off you have ZERO argument for self defense. If you run him down you have now instigated the confrontation. If you shot him, even in the leg, you'd be in court over it. If you had killed him you'd be screwed.

Look, I'm not arguing the morality, practicality, or even sanity of how the laws are set up. I'm also not offering you an opinion. In the incident you described if you had shot the guy the legal system would have chewed you up. And again, that's not even addressing a civil suit. Some dirtbag wants to break into your house at 2:00 AM? Ventilate him with my blessing. Run around with a gun and threaten lethal force against an unarmed person who tried to flee the scene? Just...don't.

anyone have recommendations for a female? Wife said we should go get permits together but I know she'll want something smaller (yeah I know). Just wondering if anyone's wife carried

I strongly recommend taking her somewhere with lots of guns and have her handle them. Even guys tend to shoot better with guns that "feel" right and women usually more so. Even better, take her to a range that has demos to shoot.

For concealed carry it's something of a misconception that the needs of a female are much, if any, different than for a male. The only exception I can really think of might be at the very upper end just because of recoil and generally smaller hands but we're talking .357 and up in revolvers and .40 and up in autos. And even that is conditional. I took a friend of mine to the range not too long ago; about 5' and maybe 105lb dripping wet. She shot everything I brought including a 1911 .45 and a .40 Kahr. Had a good time doing it too.

Any of the small .38's of a good make or .380/9mm compact autos would work. Just find one she likes. Personally I'd start her with maybe a Walther PPK or Sig 232 in .380 or a Kahr P9 or PM9(even smaller). I've never shot one but the Ruger LCP (.380 auto) and LCR (revolver in .38) have gotten good press and are generally priced well.

I'm definitely taking her to try some out just had no idea where to start. We have a couple good ranges close by and I want her to feel comfortable with it.

My Mrs. carries a .38 snub revolver (Taurus). I prefer the snub nosed revolver for her because there is less chance of a jam or failure, and in close quarters, it doesn't give a perp much to grab a hold of to try to take the gun away from her and if someone does grab the front of it, it will still fire and cycle another round up, and they lose some fingers. She found a couple of very nice purses on the internet that are made for carrying, with hidden pockets in the middle with a velcro holster in it so she could position it so that it's comfortable for her to reach into, and a locking zipper on the pocket so that it can be locked when around children, etc. She also has a clip on holster for when she is out in the yard by herself or somewhere where she's not taking her purse.

You can often find a great deal on a used .38 in gun shops or pawn shops, but be sure to take one of those little fiber optics light reflector things or something to allow you to look at the rifling inside the barrel, because they will usually begin by showing you the ones that have had the barrel shot smooth.

She was pretty content with the .38 arrangement until I got my Sig P228 and she fired it. Then her eyes lit up and she decided she wants one, which we can't afford anytime soon. We have reached a temporary compromise when I promised to change the wood grips on her revolver to rubber grips.

I have a S&W Sigma 9mm that my wife uses at times. It'd be a good weapon for her to have in the car. (Would be too big to carry in a purse.)

Minimal kick, deadly accurate and has stopping power.

The Ruger LCP would be great for a female, especially if it's going to be carried in a purse.

Get your lady a .38 derringer. Easy to handle and hard to take away. Of course, an over/under double barreled piece would be better.

My wife carry's a Glock 27. She shoots anything I shoot with the exception of the .460 S&W. Get her as many opportunities as possible to shoot many different types of guns, because it needs to be something she feels comfortable with and will practice using. If a new shooters handgun experience is limited, a revolver is a good way to go. No worries of clearing jams or feeding issues.
