Who is the worst/most over rated football coach to win a national championship?

BCS game in 1999, won SEC east in 2001, won SEC east again in 2004, won SEC east again in 2007. But VolDad considers every season a failure that doesn't include an SEC title. Unless, of course, the coach is named Kiffin, then 7-6 & 0-4 against ranked teams becomes a great success.

The love for Kiffin is sickening.

The talent gap was close in 2003; USC's 2003 & 2004 classes separated them from everybody else by 2004. But, if it makes you feel better, just consider it another loss to another less talented team by Carroll.
Whatever. Keep twisting your backward stats however you want. Carroll has won multiple national championships, a cabinet full of conference titles, and decapitated just about every major opponent they've had. If it makes you feel good to compare him to Ron Zook in some way, feel free.

I hope you remember that if Dooley has a bad record this year. Kiffin bears a lot of the blame.

Not particularly. Kiffin would've had a bad season likely as well. I wasn't expecting better than 7-5 out of this season with him staying. Fulmer did that much damage.

No one expects an SEC title every year.

But, at a place like Tennessee, it's unacceptable to go a decade without winning a championship.

Fulmer went 10 years without a title, and would've gone 20 if he'd stuck around for another decade.

I guess you think Bobby Bowden was not a good coach either. They went down hill pretty far during his last few years. Jim Tressell should also be considered. He only has one championship and that was only because of a terrible, late pass inteference call. If not for that, Coker would have 2.

Your guess would be wrong. Bowden won 4 more Conference Championships after his BCSC and played in 4 BCS Bowls.

Tressel so far has won 5 Conference Championships after his BCSC and played in 6 BCS Bowls.

I know we had some major holes when Fulmer was fired, but Kiffin did not address many of them last year. He wanted the big names so he could get some press and failed to address some of our biggest issues. I would love to have 2 or 3 lineman with a years experience in the system. A couple of backup DL's wouldn't be bad either.

1995 Nebraska --smallest margin of victory--14 points. They had NO close games. 2002 Miami had a few close ones.

What is this BCS bowl that you speak of?

That's not that hard to do in the ACC and Big 10. I think we would have won several conference championships in either of those conferences. We have seen how Tressell does against the SEC.

It is no longer legitimate according to college football rules. It is what it is.

Link?

Looks legitamite to me.

Right. Fulmer would've smashed through the ACC.

The Clemsons and Marylands wouldn't have had a chance.

We would've had a great OL and DL in 2 or 3 years with Kiffin. Kiffin may be an arrogant prick, but he knows that you can't win without the uglies... and he knows that if you don't win, then you're out of the limelight. He put the two together ... I promise you. This last class would've been sick... but we'll never see it. Too bad.

If you are thrilled by winning East titles then your standards are pretty low. What does the ring, trophy, banner look like?

Please point me to my post praising Kiffin.

I'm not saying we would have won every year, but when you only have one or two big games per year in conference, I like our chances. There only real competition has been Michigan.

We needed the big uglies last year. I know he didn't have a lot of time, but he made time to go after guys like Nuke and Brown. They are really helping us now.

Then why aren't more folks doing it?

He could only recruit one or the other?

It's not possible that he recruited Nuke/Brown AND found time to recruit linemen?

The topic is most overrated coach to win a national title. How does several conference championship appearances make you overrated as a coach?

he did go after OL guys and you should see a couple on the field this year

I would say there are 6 SEC schools that could go into the big 10 and win a conference championship at least every 3 years. Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida, and Tennessee. THey don't go through the wear and tear of an SEC schedule. With some of the patsies they play, winning one or two games against a good team would be a lot easier.

He obviously didn't get enough of them. James looks like he will start on the line for the first game. It wouldn't surprise me to see Stone starting before the year is out. We should not need true freshmen starting on the OL.
