Why is it now illegal to rag on dooley?

Serious question: do you honestly not understand the reference and think Dooley was comparing the team to Nazi's?

Serious answer: Probably better than most.

And for a man as smart as Dooley, he could have thought of 10 more appropriate analogies without comparing the Vols to the Nazi army.

Yeah, but those guys don't get $5M golden parachutes.
They will get a severence in accord with the last contract they signed... just like Dooley. It will be one of the first things the judge orders paid from the proceeds of Hostess' assets and any potential sale of their brands.
And, they didn't fail at their jobs.
Yes they did. Their company could not raise its prices without losing market share and revenue making them even less profitable. They refused to help them cut costs through productivity or benefits.

Just like UT this year, they were in a competitive environment and got beaten by "teams" that were more cost effective. The employees and managers lose their jobs. Investors lose their money... all because they didn't do their jobs well enough.
And they most likely didn't compare our Vols to the damn Nazi army.
That.... is a ignorant thing to hold on to. Ridiculous actually.

I say speak what you feel. If people don't like, there are plenty of other threads to read. NOT that big of a deal.

Why is it such an evil awful thing to utilize such a constrained analogy? You're slipping down the slippery slope if you're making it out to be anything more than he intended. It's not like UT is going to round up Bama fans and Saban into concentration camps. Very very obviously not the analogy.

Good advice... if you can deal with it face to face. Running someone down in public who cannot defend themselves is a little different.

My bad. I didn't realize you were a Nazi.

Wow. I think the moderator needs some moderation.

Can't think of too many more hurtful things to call someone, actually.

Certainly WAY worse than anyone I've seen who has poked fun at Dooley.

PS - I'm a veteran, btw. But ordinarily I wouldn't say it.

Crossed a big line in a big way, IMHO. TIFWIW.

Edit: And you got a LIKE too. Wow. Just wow. SMH.

I don't.

It's part of the Dooley legend now. It was a bad analogy for a very smart man to say.

And it is indicative of how out of his depth he was at UT.

My great-grandfather, grandfather, and three uncles on my dad's side, and one on my mom's side are all veterans as well.

My step-son is currently enlisted as a combat medic in the United States Army.

So the patriot card you're trying to throw at me doesn't work. Nice try though.

Unless you're a WWII veteran how is your prior service relevant SPECIFICALLY to that name you were jokingly called? Obviously your service is relevant in general, just not in the context you're using as a trump card.

You're the one who said you understand the nazi reference better than most.

See how that works? When you assume you know what the person is saying and you're actually wrong about it? Changes things doesn't it?

For the first time ever, I tried to put someone on Ignore to discover I can't.

Sucks for me, I guess.

Probably do understand better than most what Dooley was trying to say. That's why I understand what a bad analogy it really was. :hi:

Forgive me, but you know that how exactly?

IMHO, vollygirl has derailed a very good thread with differing opinions that could have been shared.

IMHO, Dooley has earned the fun / grief Vol fans will poke at him for decades. He should wear it as a badge of honor and move on to future successes.

But no one, as far as I know, has gone so far as to call him a Nazi in order to instruct him on what a bad UT coach he was.

Thought I spelled it out pretty plainly. Unless you're a WWII veteran, how is your veteran status applicable to the name you were jokingly called. I'm asking YOU to please explain. Help us understand because right now, no one here does. Not being a dick here.

Sorry. I don't have any control over that. Maybe contact Freak about it?

If it makes you feel any better, I can't put anybody on ignore either.

To the OP

Great thread. I didn't mean to be part of the derailing. I wanted to contribute. Was happy with different opinions. :hi:
