Why is Trump destroying NATO ?

Why is Trump destroying NATO?

The title of this thread should be “disrupting” NATO, rather than “destroying”

Solid opinion piece:

Trump is right -- NATO is obsolete, and he's delivering that message loud and clear | Fox News

With all due respect to "Harry J. Kazianis" (whoever the hell that is), the opinion of the United States Senate is considerably more important when it comes to the issue of the United States commitment to NATO and they made that opinion loud and clear today. Donald Trump cannot unilaterally withdraw the US from NATO without their consent (it's a treaty, after all) and per their 97-2 vote in affirmation of a US commitment to NATO made in a symbolic motion today, they have no intention of allowing him to do that.

Ok genius, I’m sure you are much more articulate and accomplished on these matters...I mean jeez Louise, how dare Fox allow a guy who’s given lectures at Harvard, Yale, all branches of the U.S. military and to many private organizations on national security issues around the world. He holds a graduate degree focusing on international relations from Harvard University. ...you’re right, he’s not qualified to opine.

He's on Fox News. Of course it should be absolutely ignored. I don't care what his daddy's money bought him for "pedigree".

A graduate degree from Harvard so he's worthy of credibility and belief?

Ok.

He can opine until he's blue in the face. His opinion carries no more weight than yours or mine... unless he is being elected to the Senate any time soon.

Senate? To opine NATO and international relationships?
The dumbass zepp said he’s gotta be an idiot since he’s on Fox, so I’m even more confused now.

Any posting from Fox News is to be immediately distrusted. I don't care who it quotes, I don't listen to propaganda from the Koch brothers and the right wing scum.

It’s that simple on the surface, they need to honor their commitments...also we should limit our roll, and let the slackers step up...rather than having the US taxpayers foot the bill.

Also...

NATO Is Obsolete | The National Interest

They are doing that. But go with your foolish thought anyway. Let the rest of the world band against us, that is a great idea.

If HRC had won and showed the slightest disregard for NATO, you'd all be screaming that she is betraying our alliances, is ignoring the very real threat from Russia, doesn't know what she's doing, and is soft on the military.

Trump threatens to hand Europe to Putin on a silver platter and you join him in finding creative ways to express your contempt for the NATO members.

You know I am absolutely right.

absolutely right with absolutely nothing to back it up. I don't remember us freaking out about Obama moving tanks around Europe. you have nothing, and as usual no link to back it up.

Maybe they'll realize NATO and trade go hand in hand as far as getting deals done. After all we pay 72% of NATO and Europe gets all the benefit.

Or muh Russia!

Just so folks are aware.

Trump, NATO head Stoltenberg have testy exchange at summit | Fox News

CNN for others:

BBC for those who like a proper British accent on their news:

Trump Nato: New war of words with Merkel - BBC News

President Donald Trump on Wednesday had a testy exchange with the head of NATO when he asked about energy agreements between Russia and several European countries.

Trump repeatedly pressed Jens Stoltenberg, NATO's secretary general, on why the U.S. continued to pay money to the military alliance while countries continue to purchase energy from Moscow.

Trump used Germany as an example. He asked Stoltenberg to explain why Berlin was getting energy from Moscow, and asserted that Germany was "totally controlled" by and "captive to Russia" over a pipeline project.

The president appeared to be referring to the Nord Stream 2 pipeline that would double the amount of gas Russia can send directly to Germany, skirting transit countries such as Ukraine. The project is opposed by the U.S. and some European Union members.

Trump said of Germany: "We're supposed to protect you against Russia and yet you make this deal with Russia."

“Explain that,” Trump said. “It can’t be explained."
