I wouldn't be so quick to put Kiffin in the same league as Saban and Meyer just yet.
Notre Dame would be a move up easily. Those suggesting it is a lateral move are completely ignoring their program's history. UF football has only been relevant the last 20 years or so, Notre Dame much much longer than that, but not so much lately. Going by bammer championship standards, ND has 19 championships to their name, 8 of those since official recognition began by the AP.
Whoever turned that program around would garner accolades beyond what UF could provide. Only a homer would argue otherwise.
And that would have what to do with the fact that the Notre Dame job has more prestige attached to it for a coach?

No kidding. Putting a guy that might get his first above .500 season in the same category as two guys that won championships and didn't need "a 3 year plan"? HA
if lane didn't have his daddy's coat tail to ride he wouldve never even been considered for the job. I'd venture to say if it weren't for Monte THIS year, tenn wouldve been even worse

tradition shmadition. All traditions had to start at some point. If ND stays as irrelevant as they have been for the last 10 years, and UF stays even with what they've done the last 20 for the next 10 ND won't be any more storied than FLorida.
You all act like if you don't already have 100 years of history behind you, might as well give it up because you'll never be relevant. It's pretty funny
College Football Coaches live and die with recruiting, and Florida has more top players then any other state. Notre Dame doesnt recruit as well Florida for a good reason. Go look at the recruiting rankings the last decade.
I wouldn't expect a gator to understand about history and tradition. You'll get there, don't worry.
And that would have what to do with the fact that the Notre Dame job has more prestige attached to it for a coach?
Because that coach would have to convince said 20 year-olds to come to South Bend and freeze their asses off to help some archaic has-been football program regain its status as BCS sacrificial lamb after a 9-3 regular season.
And you don't think kids that love the game don't know about Notre Dame's history & tradition and would love to be a part of it's restoration?
I don't like Notre Dame personally, but leaving that bias aside, it is one of the great programs in the nation that has fallen under some very poor decisions lately. Like someone has said before, that program is a ticking time bomb waiting for the right coach to light the fuse.
Uh oh, here comes the "history and tradition" card. Those who cling to the past usually have nothing in the present to crow about. Take Notre Dame for example....
Hell the service academies have more "history and tradition" than Florida. Minnesota has twice as many national championships as Florida.
Tradition is overrated, unless it's all you have. I'd rather win now than look back several decades to reminisce about the glory days. The here and now will do just fine.
I seem to have struck a nerve regarding UF's lack of long-term history & tradition.
UT did finish above UF a couple of years back, even with Superman, unless you decided to wipe that memory out.
UT will be back under Kiffin. This past decade has been a rough time for us, but remained competitive for the most part. I can tell by the emergence of droves of UF faithful that have arrived since Kiffin was hired.
Unless that kid grew up in the Midwest, absolutely not.
To high school juniors and seniors today, the Nebraska and FSU teams of the 90s are ancient history. Notre Dame has gone nearly an entire generation of being irrelevant on the national scene. As a BCS opponent, only Ohio State has less credibility.
I don't doubt or discount Notre Dame's place in college football history, but I don't think they're at any more of an advantage than the top SEC programs. And there's more work than appears on the surface to get Notre Dame to be competitive against top competition. For starters their facilities are garbage compared to the top programs in the country.
It's the only card you have left to play....so by all means play it. UF can't change it's past, but feel free to keep bringing up what UF didn't have then as opposed to the history we're making now.
By the way, that year you finished above us two years ago we dropped 59 on you in Gainesville.
And yet you still finished behind us. :crazy:It's the only card you have left to play....so by all means play it. UF can't change it's past, but feel free to keep bringing up what UF didn't have then as opposed to the history we're making now.

I find it funny when someone has been getting owned all day the always fall back, If that's the only card you have. lol
The stuff in the 1990's isn't really relevant right now, either. You guys have your 4 year run. Whatever. You're still the third best program in the SEC.And if you were great in the 40s, 50s, and a couple years in the 70s, yet you're getting owned on the field today, the history card is all you have....lol.
So again, feel free to play that card against UF until something current comes along.
As if you were alive when General Neyland or Bob Battle were coaching anyway......
