Would you guys be happy with a recruiting class like this?

This was Alabama's 2007 class. Saban's first full class of entirely his recruits was 2008.

5 stars - 3
4 stars - 19
3 stars - 8
2 stars - 2

Question, why you think Saban took 2 two stars and 8 3 stars if these guys could only play in the Sun Belt? He could have easily taken 2 more 3 stars and never brought on the 2 stars at all. Why you think he did that?

Yes. Saban also was a little bit late in the game. It was early January when he was hired for his 2007 class.

Like I said earlier, I expect a Top 10 class this year.

4stars- 10
3stars- 12
2stars- 3

3.28 star avg.

and what number would like for the Vols class to be ranked?

just wanna see where the boards expectations really are.

TIA

... and two years later about 5 of those 3* players are in the two deep as Sophs for a NC team. By my count 4 of the 4* were in the two deep. A slightly greater percentage of the 3* became starters as Sophs.

was not the point of this thread. but nice try to spin it your favor.

that is a top 10 class and Nick Saban pulled it. no matter how you spin it.

I laugh sometimes on how fast these threads take of into so many different directions. LV ask a simple question and then people begin to add the if's to it. We need NT's, LB,OL's ..... I think that all of those positions where a given in the break down of stars that LV gave us.

Nick Saban's track record>>>>>>Derek's Dooley track record

with all that UT has going against us, 99% of people (who follow recruiting) would agree that a top 15 class is a very good achievement.

Top 15 would be a good class, and I'm not saying it's going to be a failure if it is. But I expect a Top 10 class every year no matter the coach. If he can bring a Top 10 class, my confidence level in Dooley is going to go up.

Not sure how you come up with that from my post. My point was that Saban saw something in 8 three stars and 2 two stars. He didn't need to take the 2 stars. Stars don't always matter. That was my point. If DD takes 2 two stars he's going to get crucified by people like Silly Girly Man Vol.

If CDD didn't know how to evaluate and spot talent, he wouldn't have been Saban's recruiting coordinator.

So? Doesn't mean anything if he can't coach. Right now, the verdict is out on Derek Dooley as a recruiter. He did a good job saving the 10' class. I'm a little underwhelmed right now with the 11' class. We'll see.

Edit: Any one of us could be RC for Nick Saban and pull in a top-10 class also.

See my last post. Saban or Shula depending on who you credit found 3* players who as RS Sophs played significant roles for a NC football team.

I'm sorry guy but you need to know your facts. Saban did nothing special at his prior gig before LSU. He was 34-24-1 at MSU with NO BOWL wins and a loss in both the Sun and Aloha. DD had nothing to sell recruits. Saban was not the Saban that the world knows of now. He was a middle of the pack coach in the Big 10 who's claim to fame was finishing second in the BIg 10 his final year. He wasn't coming off a BCS championship, not returning from the Dolphins, he wasn't that much better record wise or bowl wise than DD.

Woops. Messed up. These were mostly RS Sophs. There was actually one more true Jr 3* that contributed. Six of 12 3* players made the two deep and 4 of 10 4* players.

I agree Dooley brought in a very good class for 2010. But he really needs a very stellar 2011 class for obvious reasons.

If DD pulls a class like Saban's 2007 class in '11, UT will be fine talent wise.
