I just read a long article written in April 2009 by Josh Peter of yahoo sports, about the Pump Brothers. I can see why you wouldn't like Pearl, or anyone associated with these guys. They seem like pretty shady, steal candy from a baby, multiple mistress type guys. I don't know what kind of relationship Pearl has with these guys, but I wouldn't want them anywhere near the school I root for. They stink of scandal, and frankly, seem like the kind of guys Calipari would hang with. Thanks again.

my favorite pearl moment was when he was in Michigan[?] when Memphis was looking for a new coach... he said he didn't know anything about it... he had a nice new contract shortly thereafter....

daniel west is a close second..

Pearl is not nearly as close to the Pump Brothers as Hat wants you to believe.

Also, if you look at it at all, you will find that the Pump Brothers work with almost every Adidas school, and Worldwide Wes works with almost every Nike school. That is just the way it is in college basketball. Unlike Cal, Bruce is hated precisely because he stood up to cheating, not because he does it.

Roy Williams, Tom Izzo, Jim Boeheim, Billy Donovan, Bob Knight, John Wooden, Jim Calhoun, Rick Pitino, and Mike Krzyzewski all run/ran competent half court offenses. How much success have they had compared to Bruce Bruce? I don't hate Bruce, but calling him a savior for winning 30 games one time is pretty absurd. Yeah he revived the program...but was it really that hard to do considering how bad we were? The good teams are always able to slow us down(Heck Okie State was mediocre compared to the rest of the field and able to beat us and slow the offense down considerably) and when we slow down we look like a middle school team that is playing in it's first ever game.

Ask someone who knew something about the process if Dana Pump was the reason Pearl was on Hamilton's radar. Hat even knows that is not true.

What is true is that Pump's are like the Jimmy Sexton's of basketball in terms of calling around when high profile jobs are open and using it to leverage more money for their friends. Bruce Pearl WAS offered a job by Memphis. That was disputed by some on here but it has been confirmed. Now he makes lots of money.

A casual fan's perspective. I don't know too much about x's an o's. I couldn't begin to tell you what makes the perfect coaching lifestyle/skillset or where to find that person with that lifestyle/skillset. And I don't really worry about who is or isn't coaching any of the UT teams. I just watch games. I will say that I have thoroughly enjoyed the last 4 years of UT basketball. Moreso than any time since the beginning of the Don DeVoe era. I have been highly entertained and even have enjoyed the off court sideshows. I've had a desire to make the 450 mile trip to Knoxville for home games, something I never did in the past. If this is as good as it gets, then I can be happy with that. If it gets better, then great. If it gets worse, I am sure there are plenty of you out there that will provide the necessary direction to the university (either solicited or unsolicited) - I'll leave that up to you.

GO Vols!

I've got a degree from UT; I have cheered for UT my entire life, and I also cheered for them long before Pearl came along. I, like most on here, like what Pearl has done for the program, but I have reservations that he can take us any farther without an overhaul of some things. But I guess that's just me being jealous of Bruce.

Again, for the illiterate mental invalids that frequent the forum, I do not hate Bruce Pearl. I like what he has done; however, if we do not alter some things like our half-court offense, we will never rise any farther than where we currently are.

The thing is, that is a list of coaches who win championships. Some coaches run in transition a lot like Pearl, but they are great coaches and can get their players to actually do something worthwhile in the half court.

Exactly, and that's why we aren't the biggest fans. We believe we will not take us to the next level. We don't hate him, we just don't think he can take us to the national level that HE HAS STATED he wants to go.
