Wow I am suprised about all the negative posters here.

So what are they paying him for?
no doubt they're paying him to win championships. but the guy i was responding to was saying pay should equal how well you coach. so accordingly, with that guy, Pearl was being paid to be the 14th best coach in the nation! Over a four-year period, UT probably averages around there

Florida needs to hurry up and fire Billy Donovan then, and Tubby should be gone from Minnesota as well.

1st round exit + 2nd round exit + 2 round of 16 exits = 14th best?

And why would you think that? What's the value of that particular argument?
fine, i'll compare huggins at WVU since UT and WVU schools were in similar situations when Pearl and Huggins took over. 54-21 (.72) is his record at WVU. pearl's is better over that stretch.

This is only Huggs third year at WVU.

You beginning to see why I was comparing the entire body of work yet?

While utterly out of place and fighting a losing battle, this thread has at least allowed you to get your post count up. :clapping:
you're right... this is a losing battle!!! you guys don't like pearl. period. end of it. regardless of what he's done or what he will do in the future, it will never be good enough. i imagine the rest of your life is pretty much the same. glass is always half empty in your world, i'm sure!
i mean, how would any of you be satisfied with pearl right now??

So being one of the top paid coaches we shouldn't expect more, especially when many coaches who are being payed less can match or surpass his production on the hardwood?

no research on it, but i bet it's pretty close to 14th overall when averaged out.

If you don't want to use polls, let's go ahead and do this based on tournament placing. Hell, I will even be nice and work from the assumption that Tennessee was the best team to go out in their final round of each tournament. So that is 33rd, 9th, 9th, and 17th. That makes their average 17th, which is still lower than 14th. Those facts sure do get in the way of your brilliant argument.

I am sure the Kentucky fan that you just addressed would be happy if Pearl continued to lose to Kentucky.

good god, that wasn't MY arguement!! that was somebody elses who said performance should be based on pay. i could care less how much you get paid. i expect 100 percent effort all the time

So you agree that he either needs to produce better results or he should make less money then?

what would it take for Pearl to get in your good graces??? Anybody who doesn't like what he's done so far, pleaseeeee let me know!

He could

- recruit a decent pg
- at least advance to a regional final
- produce a team that can play competent halfcourt offense and defense

I mean, those are a few things.

yes, now compare where every other team has averaged out over that same time period. then, and only then, do you have a valid arguement based on statistics.
