McCain has historically had more traction than the GOP in general with independents.

Polling data which shows a general dead heat between McCain and either D candidate suggests he has some I support.

McCain's larger problem (as evidenced some on this board) may be energizing the R vote.

And just think, this all could have been avoided on the GOP side if Fred Thompson would have actually acted like he wanted to be president on the campaign trail. But for the grace of God, the kind of demolition derby we are seeing on the Dems side is what you could have very easily seen on the GOP side. And really, with McCain rattling the cages of the NC GOP recently, you still may have a divided/toxic GOP convention.

You just said he needs Independents, but he can't continually thumb his nose at conservatives and expect to get the supports he needs. He needs the cons as much as the Independents.

My point with the Wright issue is he (McCain) is awful particular about what he deems is inappropiate. it's fair game to being that up, nothing wrong with it. If those Dems in NC get elcted they will march lock step with Obama, and so Obama's flaws can and should be brought up if they support him.

As much as I like seeing the Dems meltdown, it can very easily happen to the R's as well.

Yes he needs both R(C's) and I's.

I agree with him in principle about the ad. If the Wright point is all the NC R's have to run on then they are screwed anyway. My personal preference is to see issues based campaigning.

Bottomline, if this pisses of R's then McCain doesn't have a chance. I'm an R and I agree with him.

Keep dreaming on my GOP friends it will be a D in the white house unless you all come up with something much bigger than anything wright has ever said or done.
NO party has ever held the white house when a recession took place in the election cycle there is too much the gop is up against.
This election cycle the dumbed down electorate will work for the dems the way it did for the gop in 04and 00 cause the economy and $4.00 a gal gas mean so much more to people.
I know you don't want too hear it but facts are facts.

The democratic party is going to implode after the primary.....

Face it, democratic leadership is terrible..... you guys should have won in 2000, 2004 and it will be 2008 because of people like Howard Dean.

The biggest thing for me with regards to Wright is that he claims that every thing he says is in the Bible.

Once you are at the point where you can justify you actions as godly........... watch out!

That is why no one in their right mind would ever want to live in a theocracy!

I whole heartedly disagree with you on Dean he is a fighter unlike McCauliffe who was a disgraceful p$&^y he would not have stood around like Mccaullife while Kerry was swift boated knowing how Bush was not in Nam remember unlike Mccaullife he's 1-0 in elections as chairman.

He may be arrogant I would not call him an idiot though and he does realize that we live in a soundbite society. He knows that politics is a bloodsport and taking the high road all the time gets you beat.

Almost gives you the impression that Wright feels betrayed by Obama, and is looking to sabotage his campaign... :ermm:

I wouldn't go that far. Wright is an egomaniac is where I would go and a racist. Therefore I am sure he wants Obama as the POTUS.

So then you agree that Dems are just as mean-spirited and dirty as Reps - thank God someone on your side finally does.

Not all dems but Dean would have went toe to toe with Rove and Gillespie unlike Mccaullife.

If the R's are going to play softball, they're going to get beat again. McCain doesn't have to like it, but he went out of his way to let everyone know he didn't. Nothing about William Ayers, though. Like I said, if you scratch your head and wonder why he isn't more popular with the party, all you have to do is look at events such as these.

He is the "primary" reason why the democrats will fail this election.

There is no reason why you guys should lose but some how he screwed it up.

Obama and the Dems are going to have a hard time winning because of demographics. Obama isn't polling well among white voters now (thanks to Wright), but is overwhelmingly winning the black vote (despite distancing himself from Wright). Unfortunately for him, blacks are only about 13% of the total US population.

Dean is a fool. The only reason he was given the DNC chairmanship was because the party elites felt sorry for him after his '04 meltdown. He was also given the task of assuring that Hillary was the nominee and he screwed that up when he decided to disenfranchise the voters of Florida and Michigan.

Obama is transitioning to the man that cannot win and the Dems cannot afford to overturn the will of the voter base with this silly superdelegate vote.

As sorry as this Repub admin has been, McCain still has an exceptionally good chance of winning this race.

And many people out there know that the dems will make the economy worse with universal healthcare and adding more to the welfare ranks. And how is a dem going to change the price of gas? Aren't liberals responsible for some of the outrageous taxes put on consumers in the name of protecting the environment?
