Zach Rogers

but its better he performed well and won mvp then playing absolutely horrible. so you can put some stock in it

David Lipscomb won the Music City 7 on 7 Saturday beating MBA in the finals. They also beat last years champ Hillsboro(E. Gordon) and Springdale, Arkansas on their way. Rogers was MVP.

That's definitely encouraging. Now let's just get that commitment everyone's been talking about

I'm not sure you want to get excited about guys playing without pads.not to say anything bad about being mvp, but football is played in padsm

Goes both ways rex. The defenders didn't have to worry about contact, tackling, or the run game. The defenders have the overall advantage.

I probably wasn't clear, but what I meant is that you can't really evaluate a guy as a football player unless contact is involved.

This might be true, but if a player can't deliver in a 7 on 7, you don't have to waste your time going to see him play live.

rexvol, if 7 on 7 play is meaningless then why does every program use it in the off season?

I agree that you don't really know unless hitting is involved... but you get a better idea plus you can show off hands, speed, getting off the LOS, separation, route running, etc.

I think it helps guys as far as conditioning and staying sharp, but all Im saying is that I wouldnt base my opinion on how a guys does when no contact is involved. By the way, there are alot of rumors floating around about Rogers and Auburn.

Where is the chatter coming from, other boards or do you know? Do you think there is any truth to him and Auburn?

There is contact they just don't take the players to the ground and they try and stay off of peoples legs. Its not like they are playing flag football.

my daughter would probably call that contact, but I dont know about a football player.

You've never seen live 7 on 7 have you? It's not live football but there is plenty of contact. Guys that go to these go to try and impress and you don't impress people being soft.

If you're not playing in pads and you're not tackling then it's not "real" contact. How many receivers will go across the middle in 7 on 7 that would be scared to death to do it in when they could get their head taken off? Im not knocking it and Im not saying that you cant learn some things about a guy from his performance, just that I would hold off on some accolades until I see the same performance in an actual game with pads on.

I agree that you can't only use a 7 on 7 performance but it is a very useful drill. On another note, I have seen many a receiver get knocked out of their cleats going across the middle in 7 on 7.

These passing leagues and camps are just a way to keep these players busy while they are waiting for practice. It is nice for the QBs to work with their receivers but that is really all they are for.

supposed to announce thur. seems good for us since we are supposedly on Lipscomb's campus for the sports picnic the same day. Im not sure if any of this is true, at this point its all rumor.

I'd say he announces he's a Vol on tomorrow then.
