#1 SC vs #2 Stanford Tuesday deserves its own thread

I guess that's the price the bench pays for Dawn's Death Row OOC schedule. Cardoso and the freshmen will likely see big minutes in alot of SEC games that SC will put away early.

Doubt it. Really don’t think SC has the put away ability. That freshman class is going to see fewer than 10 minutes. They do not play well and haven’t gotten enough minutes in the non-con to improve. Hard to imagine she’ll be able to play them much in the SEC. Lots of tough teams they won’t be getting any passes.

Cardoso will play more in the SEC but so far she has not shown any ability to play with the physicality required in this league. Stanford is a very physical team and she couldn’t play with them. Was out there for five minutes maybe and got blocked twice and scored on 3 times.

That may be true with some of the home SEC games don't know how many of the road games will go that way. I thought we would have a lot more weak SEC teams than it is turning out to be. Auburn has a win over Ga. Tech and Vandy took Arizona down to a last possession game. I know when some of these teams go into SC going to happen, but on the road could be games that starters have to play way more than expected.

Can you name some teams you think SC will struggle with? Outside of LSU and Georgia don’t really see any other SEC teams causing much of a scare. Don’t think UT will be as good as they could be until Rae gets back. I chose those teams because they’re playing the best right now and both will be at home versus SC. I think SC freshman will definitely be better SEC play, the defense is there they need to get better offensively. With more playing time I see them getting there. Playing Auburn, Vandy, Florida, Alabama, Miss St, Ole Miss, etc will definitely help them in that regard. I also think SC has pull away ability. First game back with point guard and has played the toughest schedule of any team so far.

Better players who want to transfer need to be watching this season very closely. Sure it looks like a great idea to jump on a loaded team.

But don’t you want to PLAY basketball while you’re in college? Lol.

Lots of players likely sitting and thinking really hard about the choices they made. I think we’ll start seeing some really, really talented players choosing schools you might not expect. Schools with young coaches and lots of minutes available.

Arizona is another team, they are so deep at the guard spot. Players like Love went from being the main option to hardly breaking the rotation. Paris Clark is going to do a lot of sitting for two seasons she likely doesn’t expect. Barnes has also shown she’ll take anybody and recruit right over good players that have signed with her. Just like Geno and Cori Close.

Kids aren’t stupid. They see that too. That’s why Clark recommitted from UCLA so was surprised to see her choose a coach who is likely to do the same thing to her. If something better comes along Adia will bite.

Something I’m learning to admire about Kellie. She seems most interested in improving and maintaining the roster she has. Not looking for the next best thing every 5 seconds.
I agree with that but hope she reduces playing time for Rennie and some others to a rotation of 8/9 when begin SEC play as well against good teams ....play Rennie and rest of bench if have a blow out emerging.

Agree ^^^ .You might put Texas A&M in that category later in season.

The SC freshman are averaging about 3 minutes. That isn’t going to dramatically change lol.

UT
UGA
LSU
Arkansas
Texas A&M
Ole Miss
Kentucky

All of those teams can beat any team in the SEC on any given night. You must be a SC fan? Because they really aren’t that much better than anyone Lol. You’ll come to see. 😉

They won’t play much. Rennie will get lots of minutes against Chatty because after that she’ll hardly see the floor. A lot like last season.

Most of the road games could be games the subs won't play much. SC has looked a little vulnerable in some games from the three point line. SC lost two road games last season so I wouldn't be talking blowouts on the road just yet. I agree that it will happen quite a bit at home.

If she busts some from three against the Mocs, she will not get relegated to the bench. If she misses several, she may.

She’ll get some minutes if we’re up big but that’s about it I suspect. Maybe 3-5 minutes if we have a lot of foul trouble on the perimeter. At this point she’s still too nervous against good teams. Tends to freeze.

Hitting two 3s in two years doesn’t have me thinking it’s a turnaround. Was glad to see her make a couple but she’s going to have to prove a lot more than that to earn more of the rotation.

She has a very similar problem to Tess. Takes her a long time to get her shot off so against teams like ETSU she has a shot. Against a team like SC she’ll get her shot blocked.

SC fans have also forgotten that all the hype prior to the season was about their freshman class. That’s been a total bust as far as the eye can see.

Cooke has regressed and has been totally taken off the ball. To the point they ran a sophomore forward at the point instead of giving it back to her. Not exactly a good prospect for their future if Henderson goes out again. Muscle strains are tricky. If they don’t have her for more than a few games in the SEC it could get really ugly for them.

They don’t have her (and the officials) last night and they lose that game by 40 points.

The same is true for recruits. How many AAs does So Carolina have? I have no idea why Eniya Russell hasn't left yet. She needs to give Mir McLean a call or something.

Great for coaches like Dawn and Geno who can do a survival of the fittest thing, but recruits/transfers really need to be paying attention to who else the school is pursuing before they sign on the dotted line.

Cardoso and Rivers are the two bench players that I think will get 15 min+ in the SEC. But you're right...they (Cardoso in particular) just needs to do better. I'm sure Boston would appreciate being able to not have to log heavy minutes night in/out. I think that Rivers is too talented and athletic not to have it click and some point, and some SEC cupcakes is probably just the opportunity for her to shine.

SC's OOC schedule was way tougher than the SEC slate. Teams like Ole Miss, MSST, Vandy, Alabama, Auburn, Mizzou will be cannon fodder. Maybe they won't play a lot against the upper tier of SEC teams, but there will absolutely be minutes for them against the mid-low end of the SEC. I think that outside of a handful of teams, the SEC is not that impressive this year.

Expect somewhat the same bench shortening for SEC games as last season. We'll have a couple more players in the rotation because we have the players this time around. Based on the season thus far would say Key, Horston, Dye, Walker, Green, Miles, Darby, and Puckett are the eight most likely from this coaching staff. Maybe a few for Wynn and the other probably only when game is in hand.

Just me I would go Key, Horston, Dye, Walker, Wynn, Miles, Puckett, Green, Striplin, and some minutes for Darby. I doubt the coaching staff sees it that way, but minutes would run about Key 30 if she can manage to stay out of foul trouble, Horston 30, Dye 25, Walker 20, Miles 20, Puckett 27, Green 20, Wynn 15, Striplin 6, Darby 7. I don't think that is happening just the way I see it. I think Darby probably stays at 15 to 20 as she has held to minutes through 11 games and 28 percent from the field this season so evidently she is solidly entrenched. Wynn getting 15 a game is just a wish of mine don't see her getting those minutes since she hasn't thus far.

I agreed with u 100% but u can make ur point without insult or name calling. There's ppl here who say some crazy things and I just ignored them because they not gona get to me. Maybe those ppl are fans from other teams.

Some people even use blue font to make their point.

Finally someone who sees it and is willing to admit it! This SC team is nothing like the 3peat Lady Vols, Back To Back Candace team, nor any of the UConn dominant teams yet their fans (and some on this board who pretend to be our fans) and some of the media is making them to be some sort of dominant team. On paper it looks good, let see if she can figure all of that talent out and find a way to utilize them to get them to the finish line.

Striplin may have a hard time seeing a lot of court time this season. I don't expect to see much of Wynn either if Rae comes back in pretty good shape. She might actually slip behind Darby on the rotation. Both of them will have ample opportunity for minutes next season with the 4 players graduating.

I like your mindset! I think Wynn minutes will definitely improve and she has one more game to show it. I think she will! It's one thing she does that Kellie really needs that she is missing with Rae being out and that is find a way to get to the rim. Now that Kellie sees she can trust her to get in there with that face mask on, I think she definitely cuts into some of Tess and Walker minutes. Or at least I hope so!

I see eye to eye with your analysis .....Darby needs to sit more and play less.

Like I said at least provide some facts to the statements you’ve made. They haven’t played that much because the Schedule has been a top 25 team every week. No other freshmen in the country has had to endure that. Also you’re naming teams that don’t have a punchers chance of winning the SEC. Folks like to throw out “ Any given night any team can lose” but facts are the facts and the fact of this matter is SC is 30-2 in the last two season in the SEC. We also forget to mention the fact that SC has won the Tournament 6 out of the last 7 years. Of those teams mentioned only A&M and UT beat SC in that time and neither are as good as they were last year. Georgia and LSU has been playing very well and that’s why I listed those teams as the toughest challengers to SC. Take it for what it’s worth SC isn’t unbeatable, but it’s hard for me to see any of these offensive ridden teams in the SEC beating them, especially after juggernauts UConn and Stanford couldn’t even after attaining sizable leads.

UT could join the two I named when Rae comes back. With her they are a much different team, without her not so much.

The Lady Vols are a better team this year.

Tennessee is a better team than last season. We could be undefeated if we hadn't missed 13 free throws in the Stanford game. Key got in early foul trouble and only played 16 minutes. We won the 16 minutes she played by a large margin and lost big the 24 minutes she did not play. If Rae gets back were a legitimate challenge for the final four. As stands I can see us getting to the sweet sixteen and maybe the elite 8. We may have the freshman of the year on our team she is certainly a candidate. We haven't seen the best play of Alexus Dye although she has been coming on of late. I certainly expect Sc to win the SEC if they don't get covid and have to forfeit some games, but Tennessee is certainly a contender and totally believe we will finish in the top four again this season.
