2007 Chicago Cubs Thread

Woot, 2 wins today over the Pirates. Starting to climb in the division. Need to hold it together and win tomorrow.

I just looked into this thread for the first time, and I want to say that the way it starts out:

It's time for another disappointing season. At least we have made an attempt to improve our team in the offseason.

says everything you need to know about Cubs fans. Wow. Hey, if disappointment is the result of unfulfilled expectations, then at least you guys should never be THAT let down...

You guys have just been really unlucky so far. The Cubs have scored a lot more runs than they've allowed; no way they should be under .500 at this point. At least they're behind the Brewers, whom you know will fold.

I didn't miss the sarcasm, and I wasn't trying to be rude. Your comment made me laugh, is all. My own post needed a smiley or two. My apologies.

Another win today for the Cubs. Carlos, yet again, had a one inning implosion(1st inning) but the offense bailed him out with a 6-4 win.

The Cubs just swept the Nats today coming from behind to win in the 10th inning. The win today put the Cubs over .500. Too bad the Brewers are streaking right now.

Every streak has to end some time. It just sucks to end it in a 15 inning game with so many chances. Well back to .500 I suppose.

Dang, another great start by Marquis. Complete game shutout, 3 hitter and didn't give up a hit until the 6th/7th inning. A leadoff HR by Soriano in the bottom of the 1st was our offense but it was all we needed.

This team can't stand to stay over .500. Another disappointing start from Zambrano. I really hope that Guzman can have a good year and stay with Lilly, Marquis, and Hill. That way Z would be the 5th starter and who knows? Maybe there will be a trade.

Playing great right now. We are a legit contender if we stay hot, but who knows. We still need some help in the bullpen.

Z had been mighty impressive in his last several starts.

Zambrano is barely trailing young. He has a strong chance if he keeps getting the votes he is. I just hope they can stay hot. We only play 1 team over .500 in our next 4 or 5 series, we can bulk up the record during that time.

Who is going to jump up and pass them?

I can't see any team in the Central going on a run and winning something like 11 or 12 out of 14 games.

The Brewers could almost do what the Cardinals did last year from here on out; play about 5 to 10 games below .500 ball and still hold everyone off.

how far ahead where the Cardinals going into the break at this point last year? i don't remember.

the Cubs are only 5.5 out as of the sports page this moring.

edit: and of tonight, 4.5.

Anyway, last year at the All-Star break the Central Standings were...

STL 48-39
CIN 45-44
MIL 44-46
HOU 43-46
CHI 34-54
PIT 30-60
