U.S. begins troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, official says

American troops have begun leaving Afghanistan for the initial troop withdrawal required in the U.S.-Taliban peace agreement, a U.S. official said on Monday, amid political chaos in Kabul that threatens the deal.
Hundreds of troops are heading out of the country as previously planned, but they will not be replaced as the U.S. moves ahead with plans to cut the number of forces in the country from about 13,000 to 8,600, the official said.
How about, to 0?

Is this unreasonable? Why does this have such a slim chance of passing?

Senate coronavirus vote delayed after Rand Paul pushes doomed amendment

The sources said Paul is forcing a vote on his amendment, which would "require a social security number for purposes of the child tax credit, and to provide the President the authority to transfer funds as necessary, and to terminate United States military operations and reconstruction activities in Afghanistan."

McConnell agreed to take up the amendment on Wednesday, delaying the vote on the larger bill, the sources said. The Paul amendment is not expected to pass.

"Hillary Clinton and Condoleezza Rice told members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee they're worried about President Biden's plan to withdraw all U.S. troops from Afghanistan, with Rice suggesting the US may need to go back," Axios reports.

When will we learn we can't build nations? IMO, we should have left Afghanistan in the days following the death of Osama bin Laden. We're not going to build a democracy there. What is it we hope to accomplish? It's past time we withdrew our forces.

We never should have gone in the first place. I think it's become readily apparent that hunting Bin Laden was the best excuse they could use to drum up support from us.

It was never about Bin Laden.

Maybe, but I think taking out bin Laden was important. It's something we NEEDED to do. If for nothing else, the American psyche.

Oh, you are under the assumption that was the real reason for us being there. That's cute.

Truthfully, we are there for resources and for staging for future war with either Iran or Russia. Take you pick.

Don't be an ass, Ras. We're there for multiple reasons. And we are trying to build a democracy there that's friendly to us. We won't succeed. It's not worth losing even more American lives over.

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the operation that killed Osama bin Laden.
