Ainge's BBB

No problem, and I actually agree. I just don't agree it should be at Tennessee. Those kids who get kicked off don't transfer back to the original school to receive all the bells and whistles with their second chance. They burnedthat bridge and move on to another locale.

That said, if somehow BP ends up back on the bench for UT, I'll be the loudest cheerleader for Tennessee just the same.

The Pettaway kid who Saban kicked off for Aggravated burglary went to JC for a year and resigned with Bama. So it does happens with kids.

Splitting hairs.

Haha...okay. They're only the fundamental differences in the two scenarios.

-Pearl was fired for lying to NCAA investigators.. Petrino left on his own accord, for a better job no less.
-Pearl received a show-cause and placed Tennessee on NCAA probation. Petrino was implicated in improper moral behavior (sans any NCAA trouble) two jobs and six years after leaving Louisville.
-Pearl hasn't worked since being fired (because of his penalties). Petrino has held three HC jobs in eight years since leaving Louisville originally.

If that is "splitting hairs", then you have an extremely liberal definition of the term.

I knew that case would be used against the argument. Saban has taken a beating publicly for that decision as a "win-at-all-cost" approach. I can't and won't defend that decision. It is clearly the exception, and not the rule.

It still required Pettway to go elsewhere before his return was allowed. I'm not saying it can't or won't happen with players, but I don't feel it should.

If Ainge had said "The people I've talked to have said there's no chance Pearl is coming back", then the main reaction here would be "He has no idea what he's talking about"; and I know this because several other Knoxville media people like Wes Rucker have stated this over and over and that's been the main reaction around here.

I'm saying it's not credible because he's given nothing to indicate it's credible, other than he's talked to "someone". I'm not saying he couldn't end up being right, I'm saying based on what he's actually said, the substance is nothing more than glorified rumor.

You mean like the off the record comment by someone we know. lol

OK. You win.

Bad things aside, Bruce did more for this program than ANY coach in the history of UT...Yes that includes Ray Mears who set the standard for excellence for UT basketball...I think Bruce has learned his lesson so hey lets give him a big ole hug and bring him back and get back to winning SEC titles and contending for national titles...I'm all in...Bring Bruce Back!

If we don't someone else will. That's always been odd to me. A player is kicked/coach is kicked out of one place and never allowed back. Yet across state lines the other school gives the proverbial "2nd chance" (or 3rd or 4th). Life goes on as normal.

I've never understood some coaches in the NFL who keep getting hired. Guys like Andy Reid I can understand, because he succeeded at Philly. But guys like Norv Turner who kept getting head coaching gigs never made sense to me. I get sometimes a change of scenery can do wonders (i.e. Belichick) but some of them really make me scratch my head.

Your screen name hahahaa

It's funny that any time someone disagrees with me they always bring up my username. Even though I've said multiple times that I don't support our coach now. Sorry that at the time I was young and stupid for making this name. But I did support Pearl here and I did root for him. But it's funny that people say we'd be competing for national titles here with him when we made it to one elite 8. Ben Howland is a way better coach than Bruce and is more likely to be hired than Bruce. So instead of settling with a coach that has only made one elite 8, let's go after a coach that's put players in the nba and that has been to 3 Final 4's.

I see a few arguments thrown out quite a bit that I take issue with.

1.) If we re-hire a guy we fired, it makes us look like idiots. I agree, but we all know the guy that fired him truly was an idiot, and 90% (I made that stat up, but it's high) of Tennessee fans DIDN'T want Bruce fired. So if he gets re-hired, we're owning up to to something everyone already knows.

2.) There are other coaches out there that could win at Tennessee. I don't disagree with this, but it's not just the winning. It's the style of play, it's the way Bruce embraced Tennessee, it's the way Bruce talks to media and fans, it's the way Bruce loved(s) Tennessee and we love him back. Everything about Bruce was great at Tennessee. What's the old saying? The devil you know is better than the devil you don't? That, plus I don't want Bruce going anywhere else.

My only concern is that Bruce's aura has Grudened since he's been gone. We all have a potentially heightened sense of what Bruce can do, and expectations for him would be astronomical. What happens if, by chance, he can't work magic like he did the first go around? How long will "just make the tournament" hold up?

I want Bruce back. I just have my doubts it will ever happen.

Dude we were contending under Pearl. I guess that just depends on your definition of contending.

What makes you think Howland would want to come here? He is just as much of a long shot as Bruce, except that Bruce would want to be here.

They keep bringing up Howland, a coach who has a lifetime winning percentage about equal to Martins. If you are not going to upgrade then why bother changing coaches. Howland could't recruit the same city his university was in so what does that say?

Ha what? His last recruiting class consisted of Jordan Adams and Tony Parker (both from Georgia) Kyle Anderson (New Jersey) and Shabazz (Vegas) so his recruiting never declined and he proved he could recruit the south east and the northeast. But ok take the glasses off his record speaks for himself. He's a better coach than Pearl and his 3 final four banners tell you that. Pearl is a better marketer though and brings a lot of Pub to UT I do miss that part but if I had to chose between the two I'm taking Howland. Would I be mad if we got Pearl back? No, but he's not my first choice. But no matter what we can do better than what we got now, even if we don't get one of those two.

Funny, I have noticed the "Slive will not allow CBP back in the SEC" claims have died down. Someone finally pull back the curtain and find out he is not all powerful?
