Astro Dobbs

He isn't good enough to be an every Sunday starter in the NFL. Love him. NFL QB brain, but not NFL QB1 talent

Usually, it's the brain that's most important. He's got that, he's got a perfectly satisfactory arm and he's mobile--that's a nice mix of qualities--and he's had a few games as a starter when he's looked competent--or better. But it's strange, the more he plays, the worse he and the offense seem to get. I've no idea why--but it was certainly the case in Arizona at the start of this season. Bad offensive lines will certainly make it hard for QBs, that's one thing. It's a shame he didn't get to play with Jefferson--that certainly would have helped---but I read that Jefferson got hurt today on a somewhat errant Dobbs throw--not sure if it's true or not. His yards per completion today was 2.7--yikes. I'm not sure how he got sacked 5 times whereas the backup comes in, a guy who does not have Dobbs's mobility, throws 13 passes and doesn't get sacked once. Suddenly the OL got a lot better? Hate it that Dobbs lost his job.

They aren’t going anywhere this year anyway, just like the last 40 yrs. Only excitement they had this year was with Josh. Oh well, maybe he finds another team.

Dobbs is getting blamed for hurting JJ with a high pass over the middle and per the page I was on they are done with Dobbs the fans are. I told them he is 3-2 as a starter for them.
He’s only won a game as starter for them. Came in Atlanta game off bench then won Saints game. Lost next two to Denver and the Monday night game to Bears

Josh Dobbs should still get a contract, but doubtful he’ll ever be a starter unless #1 QB is injured. Maybe he plays better coming off the bench like a 6th man off the bench in basketball. He’s got nothing to be ashamed of, and besides he’s earned more $$ than probably 90% of most people and living his dream. In addition, he can always have a career being an aerospace engineer which itself is something special. NFL QB that are consistently good are a rare breed. He just won’t likely be a NFL hall of fame candidate. I’m still very proud for him!

From an accuracy standpoint, I'm not sure his arm is satisfactory. Regardless, this is not college. Once NFL teams have some film, they will expose deficiencies. That's why it looks like he gets worse. While he has rocket science IQ that enables him to understand offensive schemes, he likely doesn't have NFL starter instincts. Two entirely different things.

Well it was fun while it lasted. He'll most likely get traded at seasons end.

THIS^ NFL players are all great film studiers, if not they don't stay in the league. So you can fool them once but once they have film, that's when the real stats show. I think he can still get a few gigs as an emergency backup that does his due diligence on preparing for the game.

Dobbs looked good at Arizona at first then regressed same thing with the Vikings do you think maybe he is overthinking things. When he was first brought in he was playing on instinct the more he has learned the system the he has played much worse.Hope he didn't play himself out of the league but i am afraid he might have.

I don't think he regressed. After a couple of games, there was some real film available on him and as good as everyone is in the NFL, they were able to scheme against him and expose his weaknesses

He had one amazing game split over two weeks. The second half of Atlanta and the first half of NO the next week. The last 3 1/2 games have had been, well, bad. I thought for a moment he just never got the chance but now I realize his arm is not really NFL material and will do well to not get waived by Minnesota over the next few weeks.
Don't forget with the Cardinals this year he almost single handed beat the Cowboys. Think he won a couple games with AZ

I don’t think Kyler Murray is a film study guy. I think he had a clause out in his contract forcing him to watch film.

Not true at all. They had won 3 in a row and 4 of the last 5 when Cousins got hurt and Cousins was having a great season. It's not they only beat the Falcons and Saints becaues of Dobbs, Cousins mostly likely would have won those games too and I find it extremely unlikely he would have played as badly against the Broncos, Bears and Raiders. They would be in great shape had Cousins not gotten hurt.

Let me start by saying I absolutely love Josh Dobbs - the way he carries himself, represents the university of Tennessee, and gives back is beyond measure.
That said, I think he has hit the ceiling of his physical talents and would be better served stepping back in the next year or two and look at using his mental talents and starting a coaching carreer.

Take his sharp mental acumen and place him with an strong offensive minded mentor like a Heupel, Bienamy, Daboll, etc. and he coudl very well turn into one of the best head coaches ever.
