Butch Jones "Vows to bring the Vols back"

He wasn't pushing the brand to the recruits effectively or he would not have finished behind Vandy for the first time in school history. That's what the whining is about and it's perfectly justified. He will have his chance to make up for that blunder on the field but until then whining will continue so he would be best advised to shut up and go to work (and I don't mean twitter).

It must suck to be you. UT doesn't need fans like you so feel free to go pull for Vandy since you seem to be attached to Franklin's dangle.

I know the situation was bad, but what in the world did Dooley show that you think he deserved more time.

I've said it for a while that IMHO the situation from top to bottom when Dooley came in was so bad we couldn't look at only the win/loss record. That's bottom line thinking that the situation did not afford him. Lots of little things and areas getting fixed step by step is what I saw. I saw a team that got spanked in the 2nd half in yr 2. And then saw a team fighting to the end vs key rivals this past yr. yes they lost but fight was there. Difference. Yr 2 had bad run and OL play. Yr 3 had one of the best o-lines in the country. At one pt we had the top run game in the sec until Neal got hurt. Improvement.

To me there were soooo many parts that were messed up and just can't be all fixed at once. Especially in a highly regulated industry. Dooley came in and laid it out and did it step by step. He was doing it (behind the scene stuff) well IMO until he was thrown under the bus by not being supported by hart when all the Gruden crap started up. Fans need to look in the mirror to see who is to blame for a major part of this past seasons debacle.

good grief that's ridiculous. Whine all you want but at least apply some context to your arguments.

ah who am I kidding, no one ever does that

Did kiffin and dooley not say the same thing??? Seriously talk is cheap. Just get the job done and let it speak for itself. I don't understand why people need to get all fluffed up by talk that is a given. What else is he suppose to say?!?!?

CBJ realizes that this is a project that will take several seasons. He also realizes that, in part, the fans ran Fulmer off. He also realizes that, in part, the fans ran Dooley off but Dooley also ran himself off.

So, it is wise for him to get the fans to like him and to believe in him, so he can "buy more time".

What if he figured out that it would take 4 seasons before we could really get winning again but the fans didn't like him and were tired of losing in season 3, then he could very easily be run off before he got things turned around.

Dooley said the right things when he said he was going to run a clean program and recruit character players. At that time, that was something the fans wanted to hear.

Kiffin said that he would bring in a world class staff. At the time, fans thought we needed a youthful coach and they were not pleased with Chavis or Clawson, so hearing of a new staff was music to the fans ears.

They all have to say what the fans want to hear!!!!

Just like you didn't.

The guy didn't say he wasnt pushing the brand but said he didn't do it effectively. Big difference and what people aren't comprehending. So in a nut shell...he needs a new schtick.

We'll be sure to pass this on to him. I'm sure he'll feel better now that someone has given him a gameplan.

Much thanks. You may have single handedly saved Vol Nation. :hi:

He finished behind vandy bc kids want to go to a winning program. (See vandy 2012 record) nothing to do with butch jones lack of effort or coaching. He had 31 days to make 1-2 year relationships. (See impossible in websters).

Any other retarded comments ill be happy to filter for the rest of the Internet.

Other than that, lets wait and judge CBJ after he's coached some games.

We finished behind Vandy because we chose not to fill a full class, as opposed to taking recruits that we didn't feel would fill needs. One more 3 star recruit, and we were ahead of Vandy.

Don't let the irrational whiners take up too much of your time.

I totally get what you said above and agree. Problem is the fan base needs to sit back and let things settle and support him through thick and thin. Like you said Dooley said what the fan base wanted and that's what he was doing. Less than 3 yrs isn't enough though and that wasn't Dooley's fault but the fan bases fault for getting their hopes up. Dooley tried to bring it down some cause he knew it was there yet but then people turned on him thinking he was bashing the players.

Fans on here need to be realistic and not be over optimistic until the foundation is clearly solid. Even if we win 9+ games this next season we need to be careful of acting like we r back but soooo many will. Be happy but let's see if it sticks. It's like a patient completely thinking all is great cause one test shows improvement. The Dr is there to say this is a great sign but lets not go celebrating just yet.

Just the opposite - he seems in desperate need of advice (by this forum and others) - as much as any coach we have ever had here given that his bearcat staff got taken to school by Dooley and that they got beat by Vandy in recruiting.

Well, bless your heart.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that they won a NC 2 years ago and are closer to the top than Vandy or UT.

And that their new coach had been recruiting this class for several years as the OC... Recruiting is about relationships. AU had them. UT's new staff was trying to build them in 3 weeks.

I was against hiring this staff but am now behind them 100% (as would be the case with any other coach we hire). But I don't accept spinning 10th in SEC as recruiting success (ever - I don't care if SEC is ranked 1-10 in the country - for a program with out tradition it should never be acceptible to finish behind Vandy, Ole Miss, USCjr, or god forbit UK - fans should resist any new staff coming in and lowering expectations like this).

The two just don't seem to go together. Maybe it's just me.

Has it ever popped into your little brain that we have always out recruited Vandy and Kentucky but they have both beat us in the last 13 games we've played. It doesn't make a damn if we have more 4* than these teams if they aren't coached at all. We had enough talent to beat SCjr, Vandy, Miss St, Mizz, and possibly UGA, but we didn't! It wasn't for lack of talent.

It's not just you - there are many others here who can't comprehend that you can support someone and wish for them to succeed but be critical of how they go about it. So let me repeat: I support the new stuff 100% but they should stop selling themselve and get off the twitter (and this forum) and go to work. Those of you who can't comprehend that sentence sorry but there is not much I can do for you (I can only dumb it down so much).

and just where is that brand? The UT name was crap around the state HS coaches and players, haven't had a winning season since 2009 and have not been to a bowl game the last 2 seasons.

his actual claim was he didn't push it effectively and that resulted in us finishing behind Vandy on some sites. While the simple ranking may be true the rest of it isn't. Plus, when put in context with the rest of what's been going on with UT football, he was actually pretty effective with his approach (or schtick).

:p It sucks for you that you can't tell me who to pull for - so I will continue to pull for the Vols (and also continue to every once in a while when I feel like it step in and correct you when you say something stupid).

yeah the 30sec it takes to send a tweet really cuts into his coaching/recruiting time. The same is said about players and it's just as absurd

It's not how much time it takes - it's the message regarding what they are focused on - it seems that this staff is focused on selling themselves above anything else at this point and I'm always suspicious of that (if they are great and have confidence in themselves they should not have to focus on that).

Just a note, but Butch has said that he has "people" managing his twitter account.

you seem to have a limited understanding of what social media actually does. It matches well with the rest of your posts I've read

that's unpossible

I'm sure he's the only coach in the SEC that uses twitter :eek:hmy:

If you don't know how a coach's day goes from the standpoint of pr, agendas, meetings, personal assistants, and on and on, it's best not to make a comment about dumbing something down.

Sorry but that only makes him look worse.

In his interview on 104.5, he said that he checks it and does some things, but he has others who do most of it. You can't have it both ways. You do realize you are complaining about him spending the time on an account and then not doing all the work on it??

Some people just can't be pleased.
