California ban on same-sex marriage struck down

Just asking.

It has the same thing to do with the ruling that your request to those that agree with the ruling to dust their Bibles off does.

Absolutely NOTHING.

What does that have to do with a horrible ruling??

I have my own problems yes and fall short everyday, but that still doesn't change the fact that it's wrong. No one person is without sin, because we are born into it. We still have to try and do what is right and what is taught to us by the Bible.

...yet the government only chooses to regulate certain "sins"

Actually I am referring to those in that state that have taken the position that it doesn't affect them. Just wait till Little Johnny comes home from school and tells his conservative Christian parents that his teacher told him it was OK to be with another man since the government says it is.

By the way, the Bible doesn't say a word about two people of the same gender getting married. It says that two people of the same gender shouldn't lie with one another as a man would a woman.

In other words, the sexual act is the sin, not the love of one another. Infact, Jesus taught to love everyone.

It's amazing to me how many "Strong Christians" have this so wrong.

Wow, I'm not even going to touch that one. I am going to refer you to your pastor for clarification on that statement.

I think you realize that's there's several kinds of "love", but whatever you say. So you think if the Bible says it's not ok to have sex with the same gender, that it's ok to marry them? I'm really not trying to pick a fight, I'm trying to see where you're coming from.

Actually I dont need you or my pastor to tell me how they interpret it. I am capable of reading the Bible, praying that God give me the meanings He wants me to take from it, and trust and have faith in Him that he does it.

That being said, I'm comfortable with what I have taken from the passages on homosexuality.

that's your morals against someone else's morals. You're saying the govt can make that judgment, I don't think that's fair.

I think that the people need to come together and decide what is right. It's pretty obvious though that most people are too busy working against each other to ever work together. Our two party system of government is a prime example.

One last thing that I'm sure many people on here do not want to hear, but as far as laws go, where do you think they come from? Morality.

but it is a general consensus of morality from several different theories, not just Christianity.

Yeah, but somehow I don'y you'll be able to have more than one wife in the near future. It varies, but I think the core of it is pretty much the same... don't kill, steal etc.

Did you happen to notice that God also says those that practice this filthy act are also worthy of death?

I like Jesus' two.

Matt 22:37-40. Jesus said to him," 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself'. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.

You know that is true for the most part, but most of the principles are derived from Christianity.

most core principles in all forms of religion worshiping a non secular God and even many aetheistic views are quite similar though.

I believe that the Bible doesn't directly refference marriage between the same gender. I believe that the sexual act that homosexuals have is a sin. I believe that the passage referencing being yoked to similar people is the closest thing that someone could use to say the Bible is against "Gay Marriage".

Outside of that, I believe that the Religious Right doesn't like homosexuality, and therefore a majority of them use the Bible to attempt to "explain homosexuality away" on every level that they can.

Instead of simply loving people regardless of their sin which would be the "Christian" way, they turn their back on homosexuals and attack them every chance they get.

Frankly it's one of the things that turns me away from "organized religion".

I always ask atheists where they get their morals and the most common response for me is "they were taught to me". My second question that always gets them upset is when I ask where did your parents learn those morals. It's almost certain you get them there.

In just about all instances mentioning marriage, the Bible talks of a man and a woman's relationship, not a man and man relationship or a woman and woman.

but these are views that have stood the test of time over thousands of centuries.
