"Difference is Unreal" Says Current Player

Do you actually remember the game? UT's athletic superiority won that game. UT was young and mid-pack talent wise compared to the SEC... but Jones had pretty much all 2* and 3* players.

I am a "wait and see" guy regardless of who the coach is.... but Jones has beaten good coaches head to head and has seldom had equal talent if ever.

He's beaten Strong and Beamer notably. But he gets his shot at UT now and will either succeed or we'll do this again in 2 or 3 years.

Winning is winning because you are for the most part playing similar talent against each other. CDD had 1 winning season out of 6. CBJ had 4 titles in 6 seasons so I would call this hire much better than the previous.

Here is the 2011 seasons 10-3: recruiting class rank #59

September 3 Austin Peay W 72–10
September 10 at Tennessee* L 23–45
September 17 Akron* W 59–14
September 22 NC State* W 44–14
October 1 at Miami (OH)* W 27–0
October 15 Louisville W 25–16
October 22 at South Florida W 37–34
November 5 at Pittsburgh#22 W 26–23
November 12 West Virginia #18 L 21–24
November 19 at Rutgers L 3–20
November 26 at Syracuse W 30–13
December 3 Connecticut W 35–27
December 31 vs. Vanderbilt* Liberty Bowl #24 W 31–24

2012 Season 10-3: recruiting class rank #49

Sept. 6 Pittsburgh W 34-10
Sept. 15 Delaware St. W 23-7
Sept. 29 at Virginia Tech#25 W 27-24
Oct. 6 Miami OH W 52-14
Oct. 13 Fordham W 49-17
Oct. 20 at Toledo L 23-28
Oct. 26 at Louisville L 31-34 in OT
Nov. 3 Syracuse W 35-24
Nov. 10 at Temple W 34-10
Nov. 17 Rutgers #22 L 3-10
Nov. 23 South Florida W 27-10
Dec. 1 at Cincinnati W 34-17
Dec. 27 BOA Bowl Charlotte NC vs. Duke W 48-34

20-6 last 2 season with 9 quality wins and lesser talent in 4 of the 9. Pretty nice resume' IMO. I will take the same success to build off of over the next 2 seasons.

:good!:

Jones has done everything right so far. He recruited a high quality class that didn't compromise standards of what he was looking for, and yet seems to include kids that have a drive for and a knowledge of what it takes to win, as well as good academics and character. He has brought a part of his staff that is key to maintaining the continuity of installing the offense and defense. The rest of his staff he filled with a Tennessee legend (three if you count T.Fair and Anthony Parker). And his managed to get several of the best recruiters from the SEC that don't come with NCAA violations. He got a former DC in Willie Martinez, as well as a lot of SEC experience in his other staff members. He has invited the former lettermen to be a part of the program, and has already done things to facilitate that. He has given each staff member a piece of Tennessee to recruit, and is attempting hard to lock down the state. He has built rapports with high school coaches and programs in the state. He has already begun accountability by implementing the Volympics and the Orange, White and Blue jersey idea.

He's already started off big with recruiting the 14 class, and has had some HUGE junior days already. He understands Tennessee tradition and boasts of it. He's been in talks with Peyton Manning, and has already gotten Peyton to agree to do the Coaching clinic and probably will do some workouts on campus as well.

I just don't see where anyone can complain yet. But I do see where there's a lot of things on that list that Dooley never did. I appreciate Dooley and the work he did do here. But the more that comes out, it seems that Dooley's tenure will now be defined not by the work that he did do, but the work that he didn't do.

Clawson was a victim of Fulmer's mess... not the cause of it. Fulmer had screwed the program up long before Clawson arrived.

You miss my point. I fully agree that the program was in serious decline during Fulmer's last years. Fulmer, however, simply could not survive the woefully ineffective offense that was the product of transitioning to Clawson's scheme. Most knowledgeable observers said, at the time, that Clawson's offenses were significantly more effective in the second year after implementation. There would be no second year at Tennessee, however. The struggles of '08 would be the last nail in Fulmer's coffin, hence my metaphorical reference to "Clawson-induced cardiac failure."

Thanks...I knew Strong but didn't know if he qualified...forgot about Beamer...you win against him that's a quality win

Stuff like this makes me REALLY excited about the Fall! I know, I know "prove it on the field"...But, it is SO GREAT that they are ALREADY PROVING IT off the field according to players.

I haven't heard anything like this since last offseason, and then the offseason before that, and then the offseason before that. Our team knows how to talk a good game. They just haven't shown any ability to play one.

Go on "keeping it real"...hole up in a bunker and wait it out...sounds like a blast...I'm with the vast majority on here that are objective and realistic but do it with a smile on our face

I don't think anything about this feels even a little like Dooley

Energy and enthusiasm feel like Dooley which is a good thing - but Dooley's first year recruiting results were much better (Hunter, D Rogers) - and he had even less time than CBJ to get that done.
But let's wait and see what the W-L look like next year - if that ends up looking like Dooley's first year CBJ may not even last as long as Dooley. People now say they are patient and willing to give him time but they said the same about Dooley only to change their mind quickly when Bama, UF, UGA etc fans started laughing at us after the struggles - that is what the real issue is - almost nobody will get enough time do what is really needed to turn this around, and it will literally take someone to come in and win right away (9 or more games) to get any kind of consistent support from the fans - and if the fans quit on the coach and ticket sales drop AD (whoever happens to be one at that time) will have no choice but to roll the dice again with another new coach.

What's really unreal is the amount of people who think it's cool to let us know they want to see it on the field. That has to be the dumbest thing going on this site.

I don't know about that, exactly.
I mean, have you seen some of the stuff posted on this site?

vicious cycle. just a by product of our instant gratification society.

UT fan all the way. Just can't stand to see Dooley get thrashed because I think he put his heart and soul in this job when he was at UT and I'm forever grateful to him for the effort. Also, I did not want Gruden instead of CBJ (but I think we should have searched longer and could have gotten better coach than CBJ).

:eek:lol:

After all that came out from player, high school coaches, recruits etc. This is far from the truth Dooley was more interested in himself not UT. If you put your heart into it and never produce a winning record you are a failure

Ugly stuff always comes out about any coach that leaves. You can find stories on very famous coaches thrashed by players so that does not mean anything. Just in case you think our current coach is immune to this here is a little something about him as well.

It really does get on my nerves that one of our coaches who, I assume, has a college degree, does not know the difference between "your", which indicates possession, and "you're", a contraction of "you are." It is about as bad as when I hear people say "irregardless", which isn't even a f&@*$%g word!

You, like, those, commas, don't, you?

Funny thing about that "article". It's an op ed (pure reporter opinion) and there's a poll at the bottom where the fans completely disagree with the author. Looks like one reporter was mad, but the people thought he did a great job! Thanks for further proof we've got a winner!

The offseason is where games are won & lost. I believe we are off to a good start from what I'm hearing. Makes me wonder what Dooley did for 3 years.

The offseason is not where games are won or lost.....good try....though
