Heupel.......Please realize it's time to fire your buddy Halzle

Last night the field started to shrink. The first few drives; UGA allowed 5-7 yard strikes bc they dropped to prevent the homerun.

By the 2nd half, they realized we weren’t even trying to get anything 20-plus.

**Also, shout out to UGA for figuring out that after a big run, and a hurry up… it’s a play action pass and to just bring the house. Brilliant scouting, brilliant defensive play calling. Horrible pattern building, and habit deviation by our offense.**

With out threatening the deep shots, the slants and underneaths will get taken away. Gas pipe for what he lacks… put the deep shots in the space for a catch, pick, drop, or PI… and got several PI’s. Hooker did as well, he’d get 2 or 3 PI’s a game it felt like. Nico isn’t putting the balls in play and it’s an issue, but it’s an issue that is fixed with attempts. Let it rip, let it rip early. He’s holding the ball and not trusting the 1-1’s. Let it rip. 7-10 20 plus attempts have to be attempted per game.

There is no telling how many yards Dylan Sampson would have now if we would sometimes get him the ball outside the line of scrimmage as opposed to always running him into the line with hopes that he will get through a hole or gain yards on his own.

Like people do realize, even if Heupel is calling plays (he is) the OC is the primary resource to him with suggestions and situations during the game. During the week the OC should still be largely in charge of schemes and mitigation planning to your attack plans being countered. The OC will be giving heupel play options and situational tactics. It's studying for a test, more prepared you are faster you can process and react in real time.

Also it's not like Heupel is calling plays in a silo by himself.Besides the OC there's probably 5-7 people on that communication line between headsets. So it is an issue bad support for Heupel. It's not black/white, 1 person calls a play.

Do people not watch the games and see that CJH calls the offensive plays? The cameras show him almost every offensive play covering his face while he is talking to Nico
CJH relays the plays.........not the same as calling the plays. For a coach that is supposedly an offensive genius he sure sucks at it. 4 or 5 halves with zero points screams loudly about his coaching abilities. He needs to clean house and bring in a few successful coaches if we ever want to be a championship contender.

WRs aren’t getting separation either consistently. When they do they’re dropping the ball. Squirrel had a decent game tonight. Bru is good but he’s not elite. None of our other guys get consistent separation and catch the ball when it hits them in the hands.
Bru was much better in '22...Figure the ankle is either giving him problems or is mentally thinking about the ankle...

I think the biggest problem is that pope can't assess or develop wide receivers and Elarbee can't develop linemen.

The play calling isn't bad and I am not as down on Nico as some in this thread seem to be. He is getting better every single game. I also see some stuff in our passing concepts that I find to be pretty weird and rudimentary.

And yeah Heup is the primary playcaller, but he is relying on Halzle in the box to read the defense and personnel.
Elarbee is having one heck of a time developing offensive linemen...Don't know if the problem is him or S&C, but there is a glaring problem...

Heuple cannot keep on holding onto this STRICTLY VANILLA CALLING wannabe OC. This is unacceptable to all VOL fans and to the university. Do yourself a favor, give him whatever money is in his contract and go get a great OC. I posted earlier this week that it would come down who could call a better game..........and I was right. Bobo beat Halzle, and almost every other offensive , defensive coach. Our special teams were the only coaches that did their job tonight. You will never have a SEC championship , let alone any other championship until you get rid of him. To all Vol fans, until we realize this, and more importantly, Heupel realizes it, Tennessee will not win another championship with him as an OC.
So Bobo beat Halze but played chess with Banks and won….brilliant

Got to upgrade the receivers for next season. Need a deep threat and ones that can get open on tight coverage. If it wasn't for the TE's last night we would have been pathetic in the passing game.

Somebody call Heup on vol calls and tell him to fire the play caller lol.It will be like in the old days of gas attendants when on a Sunday after a loss Fulmer pulled into a gas station had on UT gear and the gas pumper asked him if he watched the game.He replied yes and the attendant said we need too fire the coach.

Even Nick Saban hired former head coaches to fix Bama's offense. It wouldn't make Heupel any less of a head coach to admit that he needs help with the Vols offense. Hazle is going to endurance getting Heupel fired if he keeps him around for another season.

People would probably actually respect him more, because they would know he was willing to do what it takes to win a championship for the Vols.

We need to hire some coaches from Texas or Ole Miss. Their passing concepts are light years ahead of us.
You would have thought the OC would have studied the Ole Miss tape but maybe our receivers are not as good as theirs. GA couldn't cover them in man but had no trouble covering ours.

well you can't install a new playbook or route trees in one week. Has to happen in the offseason. I think our wide splits really limit the sort of route schemes you can run. Although you create space in the middle of the field, you actually lose space outside the hash marks.

The approach of Sarkisian is different. They run a lot of bunch tight sets and very often throw outside the hash marks. Works better against inside leverage. I think Heupel should go back to the drawing board with some of his offensive formations and explore some hybrid looks. What does it look like if you have 1-2 receivers out wide and play with 1-2 tighends and a receiver or 1 tight end and 1 receiver tight?

Kiffin has wide formations and tight formations in his playbook.

It's almost like they have a Senior QB or something. Amazing that they carved up that defense with a freshman QB. 🙄

This all day. We DO NOT have a play calling issue. At least not as bad as everybody is claiming. We have a QB that may very well be the biggest bust in our recruiting history mixed with receiving corps that just can't catch. These same receivers struggled with Milton too. I feel like Nico is "Milton 2.0". He's a minor upgrade to a poor product.
A freshman is a bust? Good lord. Some of you all should make a vow not to post until yall sober up.

We ran several tight formations last night

We saw the peak Heupel offense in ‘22. That was a fluke. Everyone has figured out the tendencies and tricks. Heupel has no answers on how to adjust. The standard answer is “execute better”.

Heupel has exceeded expectations here.

But you know better?

You honestly think Halze is calling the plays? I mean he may be the eyes in the sky and that may be problem but I definitely think Heupel calls 98% of the plays.

I think our WR coach needs to be canned. All that talent and they havent gotten any better.

The days of any SEC offense averaging >45 points a game are over. Too much talent across the league
