I just saw a tight shot of Tebow...

The ridiculous feel goods done by any network simply serve to amplify his message. John 3:16 on his cheek for the TV is simply another part of that. I'm not condemning him for it. I simply think it's overdone and probably hurts more than it helps.

You don't think there are thousands of young kids who are easily influenced that see TT and want to be just like him?

Like that's a terrible thing for society...

Christ confronted and offended people as a part of his function. I have no problem with the Christ of the Bible. I have a problem with the way some turn the Great Commission into a request for loud Christianity. Those outside the fold clearly can't stand it, so why not find another method?

you cant stand it, you cant speak for everyone. I often think about the little kid who plays sports and wants to emulate an athlete, TT is a great choice (other than going to UF). How do you know who it reaches and that it doesnt do any good. I think if he reaches one person for Christ it's a great thing.

Actually, I do not want to face some pimply faced kid spouting fairy tales on my doorstep early on a morning when I'm hung over.

Then close the door and face the consequences of your own decisions. Your rights aren't being violated unless you ask them to leave and they don't. There is no such thing as a "right to not be offended".

FTR, I don't want my kids taught Darwin's fairy tale uncritically in the science classroom either... but somehow many think that's the right dogma and will open up the inquisition on anyone who dissents.

What do you mean I can't stand it? I actually don't care.

Reaching one while turning away 50 others is a bit problematic, no?

hilarious.

if you were as holy as you claimed, would not try to correct me, instead of mocking me with something like "do you actually read what you type"?

Where have I claimed to be holy? Ask anyone that really knows me and they will tell you that I often say I am saved, but still working on the sanctified part. You ask a legit question and I'll answer it.

I don't think there are thousands of young kids dying to be a Christian like Tebow. They want to be a QB like Tebow.

There's a difference between annoyed and offended. Whatever they're spouting isn't important enough to me to result in me being offended.

If TT is in one stadium and Lil Wayne is in one next door....who draws the biggest crowd?

In Hat's defense, this statment makes you look like you need to step off the soapbox for a bit. And secondly, why in the hell did Tebows eye strips with a refrence to scripture on them become a damn relgious debate? Some of you should check it at the door on the way in, or out for that matter.

we even had one post essentially equate the two.

I'll give it to TT, he can incite the Christian crowd.

I was enjoying reading through the posts and when I read the one equating the two I felt it was my duty to jump in.

If scripture on eye black makes everyone want to read the bible that would explain the increase in phone calls to San Diego when Reggie Bush played for USC.

It is part of the function of a Christian to declare the gospel. Christ didn't apologize nor did any of the Apostles. For their trouble, many were martyred by people who didn't like the message or delivery.

There is only one "method". Christ and all of our NT examples preached repentance from sin... They didn't soft peddle hell, sin, guilt, or man's need for a savior. In fact it was repeatedly those who reached a state of spiritual brokenness that Christ received. Those who wanted a softer or more moderate message were rejected outright.
