I really like our chances in the Swamp

On paper the Vols have no shot, but stranger things have happened, Florida is one of those teams known to win a huge game then choke against a lesser opponent, who knows maybe this will break the streak that's been in Florida's favor since Ainge was QB, hope it happens that would be a huge mental motivator.

It's not negative, it's realistic. Or have you not been paying attention.

Look I wish I could be like you, have a "GOLLY GEE TODAY IS GONNA BE GREAT" attitude, but I'm not a Mouseketeer. I've seen UF dominate this series for over 20 years now, and after witnessing what happened last week, I find it very hard to believe we fix any big problems in 6 days, against a team like UF.

UF isn't UF of the past but they're still much better than us. Sad but true.

Don't get me wrong, I think that a win in the Swamp is still a long shot. I just think of Bama/UGA/USC/UF/Oregon - this matchup looks the most winnable for the Vols.

I like the chances that our defense creates opportunities and contains Florida's lukewarm offense. I have a feeling this game will be slowmotion for our boys after Oregon.

I'm about like you. I think this is the best matchup of those big ones listed. Still not a good one but the best of the worst matchups.

Florida doesn't have the speed at RB/WR they used to and Driskel can be forced into mistakes if he's pressured. Here's hoping to Maggitt getting back and Jancek having blitzes drawn up for him/Brewer.

I really hope we can go down there and pull it off. But the only thing that worries me is that it seems like every yr florida has there coming out party against us. They always seem to play there best against us. Maybe this yr the tide will change in our favor. GO VOLS!

If we lose to Florida worse than we did to Oregon, we will at least know.....

Florida's better than Oregon?

cmon, let's keep it classy. He has plenty of assets:

1) Backpedaling
2) Nice head of hair
3) Can speak

admittedly, he has not been turning the ball over.

maybe because neither the DB (nor the primary receiver) can field those ground balls that he throws.

Which heyday are you talking about?

The Meyer era. Especially 06-08. Florida was 38-6 and won 2 NCGs, FSU was 23-16, Miami was 20-19 over those 3 years.

Plus, that wedged out what little footprint UT had in Florida with the end of the Fulmer era and Kiffin's dumb@ss insulting most of central/southern Florida HS.

2 weeks to get Ready For the Vols, at Home ..it's going to be a long day!

But, as I said, the biggest problem for Florida against Miami was their QB...

and he got off crutches yesterday. He hasn't been in practice to shore up the problems that came up against Miami.

I'm not putting money on a win for the Vols, but I do like some things about this game:

1) Based on interviews only, it seems like this team wants to bounce back in the worst way. This is the game I want if I am a player after a gut-check. Florida is a beatable team and a win would be a HUGE statement. It's rare you can make such a statement over a relatively average team - but that is the case with Florida. There's enough here to create some motivation for extra hours in the film room.

2) Florida has not shown the offensive firepower to put this game out of reach early.

3) Our team, so far this season, has been more disciplined and opportunistic. In a defensive game, those two attributes are very important.

4) I hate calling for a new QB, but if Worley produces a few more of his 3-and-out deer-in-headlights drives, I don't see how Butch can pass up giving another QB a shot to make something happen.

5) I could be wrong about this, so please correct if that's the case: It sounds like the coaches have been developing the playcalling and offensive plan around Worley's assets.

Based on this week's presser, it sounds like they now recognize that it's just not enough. Hopefully we pull out some new wrinkles that Florida doesn't have tape on and we get some big plays for a half. Once again, in a defensive game, this could be a big factor.

Here we go again.

I'm not saying this to be adversarial, so don't take it the wrong way, but I think Vol fans should temper their expectations about our offense. Is this an elite UF offense? No. But we've had a lot of missing pieces the first two weeks that will be back in place for the Vols on Saturday.

- A lot of people felt our RB Matt Jones was going to emerge as the next elite SEC RB, but he got a virus back in August that forced him to miss all of fall camp and put him in the hospital for over a week. He had also sat out the spring game to avoid injury and let other guys develop. So the Miami was his first legit contact in a long time. I think you're going to see a completely performance from him on Saturday in terms of his cuts, ability to press the hole, and hopefully pop a few long runs. Gurley, Yeldon, Davis, etc. have been getting the hype - and rightfully so - but Jones is definitely a guy with the potential to get in those same conversations.

- Then there is the heavily recruited, freshman RB Kelvin Taylor. He hasn't seen much action yet because he had to learn pass protection and how to protect the football, but in his few carries against Toledo, you could tell he is going to be special. Muschamp said he will get more looks this week.

- We also signed two of the top WR recruits in the country in Demarcus Robinson and Ahmad Fulwood. They've played in the first two games, but only saw a handful of balls thrown their way. Both are better than pretty much better than any receivers we've had since the Harvin and Cooper days, and they bring the ability to challenge defenses vertically. We haven't given them much of a chance to do that yet in the first two games, but Saturday could be a coming out party for either of them.

- The O line should be better than you saw against Toledo and Miami. Halapio will return to the O line and Moore should be healthier than he was against Miami. Humphries has had recurring knee soreness and it's probably going to be something we deal with all year, but with the week off, he should be better against the Vols than he was against Miami.

So, I think it would be more fair to your defensive coaches to withhold judgment about our O until a later point. You'd hate to see an angry mob of Vol fans calling for the coordinator's head if previously unheralded players like Robinson, Fulwood, Jones, Taylor, etc. make some big plays, because those kids are all going to be legit playmakers. You would have seen them make plays already in the first two games if a.) we didn't have a ton of injuries on the O line and in the backfield, and b.) Muschamp wasn't trying to control the clock due to our depleted depth.

These are the kind of fans that cause other people to laugh at us. I hate being guilty by association. If you don't like what people got to say, please continue being a rarity on this board. This site isn't UT Fans only specific.

It won't matter.... after last year, Driskel is licking his chops at the opportunity to line up against what is, at this point, a very poor and slow UT defense. To me, that's learning the lesson from last year.... he was supposed to be a bad QB until he played UT... He got very well, very quickly. Willing to bet he does it again Saturday

Save your keystrokes, many on here thought the same thing about the ducks offense. My favorite comment was "they are fast but they aren't really good".

I hear ya. Well, don't get me wrong, we're not a great offense. I'm just saying there is a certain level of potential there and you'd hate to see an unfair backlash against the UT defensive coaches if we start to fulfill that potential on Saturday.

A kid like Demarcus Robinson or Kelvin Taylor might make a big play and I could see Vol fans being like, "WTF?!? So now these no-name freshmen are making plays on us? Fire the coaches!" I don't think that's fair because, even though we've been unable to demonstrate it in the first two games, we're actually counting on those young guys to make plays for our offense. That's not going to be a reflection of UT's D, in my opinion, so don't ruin your new coaches' momentum with unfair negativity.

I read where Moore will prob play but he's not that healthy. Same with humphries. Halapio will be in his first game. Both teams have had their share of missing parts. I wouldn't count on either QB getting the ball to the playmakers consistently.

This ain't your Daddy's Florida Gators, and despite our showing in Eugene, we have a chance.

It's a notch above snowball's chance in Hell, but I'm saying there is a chance.

What really toasts my strudel though is the fact that since 2008 it has never been easier to beat Florida in over a generation despite 99gator holding on to that 11-1 record last year. These have been the weakest Gator teams in a generation.

And just as our luck would have it, we've had the worst Vols team in a goshdamn century at the same time. SMDH. I hate UTAD Mike Hambone Hamilton.
