Warning: 2022 was Hooker’s second year as QB1. Just saying…I respect your defense of Milton, but in defense of myself I must explain that I don't throw shade on Milton because I hate him. I love Milton. I throw shade because the limitations that he put on our offense last year is part of the foundation of my expectations for this year... I'm expecting a return to something that resembles the 2022 offense and it's 100% because I think we've made a huge upgrade at QB. It's nothing personal. I just think we'll contend for a national championship this season and I like to explain why
You sir are a sage at times. Everyone only remembers the last couple years. Especially if the last 20 have sucked. Has Joe has what Milton had I think he would have done very well. Do I think he is better than Hooker? Hell no but he is a good QB and the patriots agree. I think he is in a great situation with Mayo as his head coach for reasons most people won't get.Recency bias iz real.

When I was in the Navy at once point I had a division officer and for the only time in the Navy he was like me. I figured I had it made. He was super hard on me though to the point even others noticed. One day I asked him why he was so hard on me? His word stuck with me to this day and have been a guiding part of my life. I have to be hard on you because if they see me treat you even just equally they will see it as me playing favorites. Later in my career I saw situations just like he described play out some personally and some watching others. He was right. We both came out better because of it. I think Mayo can be that hard love guy for Milton and I think Milton has proven he is the type of guy that can suck that up and take advantage. Bro could have transferred after 21 and gotten a starting spot as a P4 school easy. Instead he grabbed a clipboard and soaked up all the hate and knowledge. Then last season even though he got a suboptimal situation on offense he went out every game and gave his all. never crumbled behind all the hate and trust me anyone that was in these forums for the last 3 years has seen it ,nothing but disparagement sent his way. Every overthrow, incompletion or dropped ball directed like it was the end of the world. Put his tape up next to any other QB and they had similar or in most cases more bad throws than him. But the stigma stayed.
2023 Joe was putting balls in WR's hands and they were dropping them. For every overthrow, I can show you 3 drops or wrong routes run. Was he perfect, hell no, but he showed clear improvement and lead out team to 8 wins. For context we have won 8 or more regular season games 3 other times since 2008 (Dobbs and Hooker). Compton couldn't do it nor Ainge, Bray, Worley or JG (funny enough came the closest with 7). Facts can't seem to pierce whatever it is that mysteriously makes people want so hard to downplay the accomplishments of these guys. Even Dobbs and Hooker got their flowers very grudgingly at the end. I think by the time Hooker came around so much effort was put into hating JG they let him kinda slide but it was still there on display in '21. Then after a rest in '22 back to the old ways. The second Nico has a bad game the pitchforks will be out, mark my words. Morons are expecting an SEC championship from him this year and when reality hits and we win 8-9 games they will pick him apart.
I have been an active member of these forums for over 14 years and followed them since Fulmer as a guest not posting. The lovely thing about forums is everything is there forever. Go back and check... heck just do a search for those names and see what percentage of threads come up positive vs negative. UT fans are some of the best in the world but also some of the worst. I am proud to be a Vols fan for life but sometimes (like once a week in these forums) its just face-palm how we eat our own.
I just don't get it.Unfortunately, opening the thread, you could bet the farm that this element would be present.
It's really crazy. over the years I have seen so many trolls from other teams come in here to do just that, Troll then seeing these forums they end up feeling bad and taking up for our players against us. Kinda nuts. But trust me some of the one-line parrots will come in and own the realists. 'He has a cannon but overthrows everything', 'Holds the ball too long' blah blah all because they heard it somewhere so just repeat it every time they wanna hate but don't seem to watch the actual games just the highlights and lowlights. Kamal Hadden was the worst corner ever. Gabe Jeudy-Lally was a scrub but where are they now? Arian Foster is like the poster boy of it all. People hate on the guy because he does not rep UT.... did you read forums when he played here? It was nuts. Over one fumble.I just don't get it.
I could bring up that Peyton Manning threw a disgusting 28 interceptions as a rookie every time someone mentions his name in a thread. Yes, it's true. It's well known. It's terrible.
But why go after a Vol on Violation? It's just a crappy look for the people and the board.
"Hendon was no Peyton". Please show me where I said this. I haven't even mentioned Peyton at all, nor have I even slightly been critical of Hendon Hooker. Can you make a point without lying? I'm not sure you can.Is there a point to saying, "Kahill was no Reggie" or "Hendon was no Peyton" or "Joe was good in practice only?"
Is that the kind of crap you'd expect on Violation?
Guess what, Kahill was a fine athlete. Hendon is a fine athlete. Milton is a fine athlete. All of them, regardless of their "yeah, but they didn't do what....... did" deserve respect.
Glad you got that off your chestThere is no defense for the lack of character to UNNECESSARILY throw shade on any LOYAL VFL. Especially one that has physical abilities like his, and rule out the POSSIBILITY that a new scheme could better fit those skills and that the lights COULD go on.
Joe is foxhole sharing worthy, arrogant negative detractors not so much. Short of mega bucks donations to the AD, their value add calculation is awful. I would have to see the acknowledgment letter.
He has done great things for our coach and our program in several recent interviews and deserves at a minimum the application of the “if you don’t have something nice to say” doctrine.
They call it cheap shoting for a reason,
For sure folks are free to do so. One of the subsets of EVERY PROGRAM HAS THEM fans.
Perhaps you've not looked at the thread. I have."Hendon was no Peyton". Please show me where I said this. I haven't even mentioned Peyton at all, nor have I even slightly been critical of Hendon Hooker. Can you make a point without lying? I'm not sure you can.
I also never said "Joe was good in practice ONLY". I said reports of him being incredibly impressive in practice were not new. Clearly this did not always translate to the playing field because he lost starting quarterback jobs both at Tennessee and Michigan.
Lastly, I think it's far more disrespectful to Kahlil for you not to take the time to properly spell his name. No DL compares favorably to Reggie White, he's the GOAT. Incredible that even that basic level of nuance is something you can't detect.
Even if you had said any of the above things those are not what i'd call hate. "Hendon was no Peyton" is a pretty much obvious innocuous comment. Even 'Joe was only good in practice" is fairly mild and arguable. That one seems to have picked up recent steam though in the parroting community. That is the funny thing once those things get out there the dog whistling community kinda makes em their own."Hendon was no Peyton". Please show me where I said this. I don't turn on players, and I am slower than most to turn on coaches, because I am older and we used to have the attitude more that the players in college are still basically kids. If I remember correctly, this conversation started with you replying to a comment of mine, and stating a bunch of stuff I didn't say so I took it as you reading alot more into it than was there. If all that wasn't meant for me, fair enough, I'll accept that.Perhaps you've not looked at the thread. I have.
You think I'm looking to argue with YOU specifically. I'm not. Read the thread.
Honestly, I could care less about you personally or your worries about my honesty. I'm arguing that Vols on Volnation deserve respect. Vols that get drafted or manage to make money playing football professionally (which includes people like JG even,) deserve even more respect on Volnation.
Do you personally take potshots at Vols? I dunno and I don't care, but you can see it every time certain players are brought up, like Milton or JG, DESPITE the fact they've accomplished light years more than those taking the potshots.
Perhaps we can agree that it's pretty weak on a Vols board to go after accomplished Vols.
That's a rational explanation for what appeared to me to be an incredible overreaction. I have been around less this off-season than normal and haven't picked up on Joe bashing dog whistles but I know the phenomenon can occur, so thanks for the explanation.Even if you had said any of the above things those are not what i'd call hate. That being said I have never noticed you in the hardcore hater/parroting community. The ones that are know who they are and so does everyone else. Trust me unless someone calls you out by name/quote (which seems to have been the case here) it's probably not about you. There is a lot of dog whistling behavior going on at times and there can be people caught up in the whole thing when they unwittingly perform the secret handshake. Kinda like the Vols handsign... throw that up in the wrong setting and you could be misidentified.
