Justin Worley to start against Austin Peay

Not surprising but the fact there was no clear #1 before now, and really still may not be, is not good. One would think Worley should have at least pushed Bray last year....a little... but it wasn't even close. Now this year he can't separate himself by much, other than limited game experience, from a rs freshman and two true freshman. We better hope the light comes on quickly for someone behind center. If so, I think we have a surprisingly good season (7-5 to 8-4). If not, 5 or 6 wins.

Agree wholeheartedly. I really expected Worley to nail down the starting job a long time ago and it's not like any of the other QB options just lit it up from what I've read/heard. The fact that it took this long almost seems like Worley won the job by default and if this turns into a dumpster fire season, which it certainly could, then I have no doubt we will see some, if not all, of the other QBs. My prediction is that Ferguson will be the starter by year's end.

"Worley was the Volunteers' only quarterback with game experience, having backed up former starter Tyler Bray. In the past two seasons, Worley appeared in nine games, completing 63 of 110 passes for 738 yards, one touchdown and five interceptions."

ESPN-

Gotta love that TD to INT ratio.

:eek:lol:

not great but he was playing some pretty good teams with those stats.

Obligatory ESPN hates us.

Ferguson is ahead of Dobbs bro

This.

I don't know why the Dobbs fan train is flying past the Ferguson supporters. Bama, LSU, Clemson, Louisville and Michigan all offered Ferguson. Much more impressive than Dobb's list of offers (not academically). Riley isn't just another Jim Bob Cooter sitting on the depth chart. Kid can play and will contest for the job.

BTW, what's the word on Peterman's performance over the off season? Most I've heard/read about was Worley and Ferguson.

You do realize you can play freshman in the first 4 games as long as you keep it under a certain percentage and still redshirt them. It wouldn't be burning anything that's when you give them a look if your going to do it. I'm sure you knew that though...

That is not true unless you're going after a medical

Peterman has actually been pushing Worley pretty hard as of late

Anyone here who thinks Worley is being started so he can be benched later is foolish. Worley may lose the job but this is by no stretch the same as the Simms-Bray situation even before we knew how truly horrible Simms was.

The question now has become "Who is number two?" I won't claim to know (unlike so many of you) because I do not see sufficient evidence to tell me. My opinion is that it will be Peterman but again that's just a hunch and not a ironclad declaration like that of all you guys who eat lunch with Jones and discuss the depth chart and plans to move Worley aside at some strategic point.

Ferguson is ahead of Dobbs bro

Who said?

I have seen NOTHING to suggest that except a brief comment in one interview that many have blown completely out of proportion.

I hope they're both as good as the wildest supporters of each are trying to say.

But the facts are these. Jones announced prior to the spring that there would be a REAL competition for the QB spot. He announced that the two returning guys would get their shot to establish themselves in the spring. Worley finished the spring ahead of Peterman. This fall, Dobbs got his shot to knock Worley off first. that was kind of a disadvantage really because a week of prepping with the 2's and 3's might have improved his chances. He did not succeed. Ferguson then got his chance. He also did not succeed.

So it was handled EXACTLY as Jones said it would be handled more than 5 months ago. Everyone got a shot.

Jones and Bajakian had good things to say about BOTH freshmen. Just because some latched onto and blew out of proportion one statement about Ferguson DOES NOT mean he pushed ahead of Dobbs. Maybe he did... maybe Jones was just being more open with his praise in a way that does NOT convey his opinion comparatively. We will see when the depth chart is released.

I've got a feeling Worley is going to surprise a lot of you guys.

Same here. This is the first time here that he has had this kind of opportunity and prep time. He may have some jitters early, but I expect him to shine. Kid can play and teammates seem to love him and respect his ability.

Butch is not going to put him on display as one of the 5 new jersey models if he was on the short leash. My read on the competition is that Butch is keeping all four of these guys on edge as long as possible. Would not be suprised to see the RS FR get some PT in the first 2 games regardless of how JW does.

That we have a group of really talented guys.. that outside of CBJones keeping them on edge..the real reason no clear starter has emerged is because they're all very good?

Not that Worley isn't anything special ....?

Everyone who has gone and seen them practice (as in former players) all confirm Fergie is better and ahead of Dobbs.

The only way Peterman or a freshman play in the first 2 games is if Worley gets hurt or if we are up 3 touchdowns and they come in for mop up duty. CBJ needs Worley to get confident and ready for the tough part of our scehdule. You can flame away if I'm wrong, but most coaches like making decisions and building confidence in the process than flopping around with indecision. Indecision breeds desention in players and coaches.

That is completely false.

As long as Worley manages the game well and doesn't turn the ball over or try to do too much we will be at least competitive in all our underdog games this year.

Anyone here who thinks Worley is being started so he can be benched later is foolish.

CBJ replaced his QB at Cinci in the 9th or 10th week. Why is it foolish to think he may want to give Ferguson a couple more months of "on the job training" before throwing him to the wolves?

I think we can all agree that Ferguson has more potential than Worley. That does not mean he is the more capable starter come Week 1. However, I do think that Ferguson will replace Worley at some point this season.

This is simply my opinion and I do not think it is foolish.

So that's who you've been eating lunch with?

So they go during the period when Ferguson is working with the 1's and Dobbs with the 2's and 3's...?

Define everyone. Are they the cousins of "they"... as in "they all say"?

I don't honestly care if he is better... what I do care about is people making declarations based on no or very limited information.

You know I think it's hilarious that a lot of people are knocking out whom they think will start at the beginning of the season, the Oregon game, the end of the season, the end of the summer solstice, etc. Worley will play-- and if you think you've seen enough to make a determination on his abilities I think a lot of you are short sighted. We haven't seen enough of a sample size on Worley--likewise nothing for Peterman. If Ferguson or Dobbs plays then it means we probably aren't bowl eligible. CBJ has stated that he'd taylor the offense to personnel he has so I'm banking a bulk of the offense coming from the Neal/Lane combo behind our great offensive line. Defense should hopefully be improved and Special teams will probably scare us all because Palardy and Darr--well hopefully they'll get over the mental crap and be something better than they have been in the past.

Not wanting to put a true freshman in and potentially destroy his confidence if it doesn't go well is a factor, imo. It's not a plan to pull Worley later. It's a plan to put the experienced guy out there, see what happens, and give the freshmen more time to develop in case it doesn't work out.
