NBA vs NCAA

You obviously watch the NBA... He's getting props left and right. I said he is becoming, as everyone does. People get better at shooting throughout their careers
Does "everyone" realize his overall and 3 point shooting percentages are lower this year than his career numbers? His overall shooting percentage is down about 2%. Real improvement.

Shaq's been practicing free throws for twenty years.

Michael Jordan was a great scorer but not a great shooter. Dwayne Wade is a scorer not a shooter.

John Stockton wasn't a great athlete (in comparison) but he turned out alright. Athleticism only goes so far.
But look at all the great athletes the Spurs and Pistons have had on their rosters the last decade. Steve Kerr, Chauncey Billups, Danny Ferry, Robert Horry, Jacque Vaughn, Bruce Bowen, et al. Their success proves it's all about athleticism.

2008-09 is last year? Tell me who wins that season's national title.

Why would I look at their salary for last year over this year...you are looking like an idiot. Just admit that Marvin Williams makes more money and move on.

Oh please, Kobe Bryant threw up airballs his first few years. Lebron was a questionable shooter at best until this year. The list goes on. Kobe's jump shot has improved DRASTICALLY over the second half of his career. His is now potentially top 5 shooters in the nba.
this is retarded. Kobe has been a great shooter from day 1. It has gotten better, but what has really changed is his shot selection. Funny how that seems to coincide with better percentages from the good shooters.

You calling someone an idiot is akin to Drew Carey calling someone ugly. Marvin Williams is at the apex of his intial contract this season. Thus, why would I take the highest salary of his career? Now, conjure up all the intelligence that 36 on the ACT will allow and come up with an exceptionally creative way to kill yourself.

...so Marvin Williams does make more money? Awfully long-winded way to say that, but I'll take it.

And after this year, you and I both know he will continue making more because he will get much more than 16 million dollars over four years. Marvin Williams is a more valuable player in the NBA than Damon Jones is. Atheticism over shooting...again

I see your point, but you're being a bit disingenuous here. Kobe did shoot quite poorly his first two years, and it only really came to heights during year 3.

Also why can't we assume that the shot selection of others won't improve as well when they get to the NBA?

Funny, that. I mean, honestly, give calderon an open look at 3 and he'll dramatically improve his shooting percentage. And he's awful at shooting, something like 42%...or wait, he was....it seems he's gotten better, right around .500

Anyone who pays Marvin Williams that is a GM looking to get fired. If athleticism over shooting works, how exactly is it that San Antonio is the best team of the last decade? In fact, there's a pretty good argument that no NBA champion since the Showtime Lakers had more than average athleticism across their roster.

Jameer Nelson started his career around 31% from 3 and is now among the league leaders at 45.3%...just saying

Shall we place another bet on whether Marvin Williams gets a larger contract than Jones had? Even more fun.

He was decent not great. He got better and evolved into a player who could hit contested jumpers better than anyone.

Jameer Nelson started his career playing with a bunch of guys who didn't warrant defensive attention. Now, he gets a boatload of open looks because it's better to get beaten by him from 3 than it is to let Hedo, Lewis, or Howard go off on you.

Not true at all. Look we are talking about the NBA getting people from COLLEGE that are athletic vs people from COLLEGE that are shooters.
Everyone on San Antonio's roster is athletic. Ginobli is athletic, don't let his shooting blind you. Parker is lightning quick, Duncan is a very athletic big man who has great footwork etc..
AND DONT EVEN SAY BOWEN. He is protentially the best athlete on the team. He can to the league as a defender and DEVELOPED a great three point shot.

In 2006-07, all of those players were there and were producing except for Lewis. Nelson still shot 33.5%. This year, he's at 45.3%. Looks like an improvement...

Wait are you trying to say that KOBE BRYANT has started taking better shots? You do realize he probably shoots more contested jumpers than anyone in the NBA?

What are you talking about? Don't you know that after age 20 you can't improve your jump shot?

Mehmet Okur. Though I'm not exactly a fan of his, his 3P% has risen steadily from 27.0% in 2004-05 or 34.2% the next year to 46.5% this year. Huge improvement.

I'd say Lewis is a pretty big addition. Playing next to another guy who has averaged 20+ for a season will help you get more open shots. Also, look at Jameer Nelson's college numbers. Nobody ever doubted he could shoot.
